  • Set during the horse & musket period of 1700-1900, Black Powder covers the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War and the Anglo-Zulu War, to name just a few.
We sit down with our Warlord games CEO, John Stallard to talk all things Black Powder, showcasing some of his personal painted miniatures from the Black Powder range.

I love how Warlord is comprised of the old guard of Games Workshop. That's when GW was good. Now the good has moved to Warlord and I know they'll make great games.

I disagree. 40K is still good, just different in terms of tactics and stuff. Somewhere between 8th and 9th ed is the perfect core rule set. 4th and 5th ed rules work sooo much better for WWII battles than they did for 40K; the new vehicle stats alone are what do it for me. No more taking a Land Raider and having it die to a single lucky lascannon shot, while my Attack Bike can tank that same shot and keep going because it has a Wounds stat. I take the fun stuff so I can kill things with it, dammit!
No, what tanked is the lore, the new minis' lack of interchangeability (I used to buy Tac Marines solely to use the torsos and legs for Assault and Dev Marines), and the pricing, never mind the IP fanaticism.

Tell that to all the people who keep ripping off their systems to make things like Bolt Action and Kings of War. GW's games only started to degrade when they started viewing new editions as just another way to compel competitive tournament players to buy new minis.
Do not mistake a problem with the company for a problem with its product.

    • @jeffthomas3707

@@1krani You can't expect Games Workshop to be the only company creating Tabletop Wargames. That's like saying American Football ripped off Rugby, or Ferarri ripped off Ford, or Samsung ripped off Motorola. Games Workshop make good games, but they have a price point that exceeds ridiculous, and that's why so many people have stopped playing. Warlord also produce the type of game that Games Workshop don't. Napoleonics, American Civil War, WWII, so it's not as if they're even competing over the same market, so that can't be used as an excuse for the inflated prices. Let's look at the craziness of GW products: Cadian Defence Force - 25 figures, 2 tanks £140, versus Warlord Fallschirmjager Starer Army - 39 figures, 1 tank, 1 armoured vehicle, 1 field gun & crew, 1 Mortar & crew, £98. So £42 cheaper for pretty much double the amount of product. People don't really have an issue with what GW produce, they have an issue with how much they charge for it.

A friend and I got into Black Powder a few months ago. We are doing it with 10mm miniatures in order to have more models on the battlefield - and it makes it easier to storage. We are located in Denmark, and so far it seems that we are the only ones playing historical games within this period. Love the rules and the supplements!

Got a bit of a warlord thing going on at the moment. I have Bolt Action, Black Powder, SPQR, Hail Ceaser & new addition today of Black Seas. All starter sets except bolt action as have extensive US & German armies now. The black seas models are very good indeed. I actually prefer plastic models now compared to metal. Easier to work with and the moulding is just as good now. Why they included metal masts with the extra kits like the Victory is just weird. The plastic masts are just as detailed and thinner & more accurate if anything.

Ducktales was a favourite when I was three years old. My favourite episodes are Send in the Clones, Masters of the Djinni, and Magica's Shadow War, Armstrong, and Sir Gyro De Gearloose. Magica is the best villain with the best episodes.

I love Warlord Figures. However; you still do not have a dedicated French range for the Russian Campaign! Your 1807-1810 is probably a little too early, and if youre honest? You have to admit that your "Late"1812 is based on Bardin Regs and largely would not have available in the Russian Campaign.
I cant believe you can go to great length to "finish less popular genres"ie French indian wars, british colonial and the like but havent gone to great lengths to expand let alone complete your "Clash of two Eagles"range. It was absurd doing a Vistula range and have "no dedicated French Line regiments" other than those that are better suited for the Peninsular Campaign.
The thing about Napoleonics isnt throwing hundreds of figures down on a table for the sake of it. Many of us spend a small fortune acquiring References to get our figures as perfect as possible; you Guys have announced your "Clash of Eagles" you wanted to sell it; now do the right thing and stand by your decision. Or else you may as well withdraw the range and announce
'"Warlord Games is only concerned with accommodating Peninsular and the Waterloo Campaigns."
I moved away from Perrys because they are greedy; their Tax for International Customers was just bullshit especially on resin figures.
You Guys are alot nicer and offer value for money; and as such more people are able to be involved in our hobby.
When i a very young kid in the end of the 70s; i was a Brit who was raised in New Zealand. Way back then every kid in the Country had Airfix Figures, i kid you not! This wasnt rocket science, Airfix made their ranges affordable to everyone. I would love to see every kid in the World collecting Warlord Figures. I would love to see those thieving bastards at Warhammer and the like go broke. You shouldnt have to pay a premium for plastic miniatures; and everybody should have access to them (not just yuppies)!
Anyway please think about leveraging your marketing Boys to doing a proper French range pre Bardin Russia 1812 (and no not retreat uniforms and costumes)
Perry hasnt done it; and you Guys may corner the Market because as far as i know? Even the likes of Calpe and Front Rank have neglected a "true French Uniform/Russian Campaign 1812"
    with thanks
    Stew Mills
