      Aside from Range and Upfront Cost, EVs have everything to offer. Better on Performance, Maintenance, Safety, Convenience, Fuel Cost, Utility, Pollution...
      The Range is fixed by a good charging network (which is just Tesla, for now) and Upfront Cost is balanced out by lower lifetime expenses and high resale value (at least for Teslas), for the base models, coming out to Total Cost of Ownership competitive with the most popular value cars.
      Biggest problems right now are there just aren't enough Teslas to meet demand, which is keeping both new and used prices high, the other EVs lack a reliable charging network, and servicing can be a hassle.
      But, no question, electric is the superior powertrain solution going forward.

    • @ryanthompson3737

      Remember, these guys are using 70s battery technology to power this bike. There are already theoretical designs that provide more energy density than even jet fuel, so one day soon we'll see EVs with much greater range than any gas vehicle on the market. The reason we do this is to advance the technology so that we can one day get to a point where the Ford Lightning can go 1700 miles on batteries that weigh the exact same as a full 23 gallon tank of gas. If weight wasn't an issue, these theoretical designs can even provide an entire years worth of range for the average person... imagine only recharging ONCE per year.

      Energy density of the batteries doesn't allow for enough range. Motorcycles are horribly bad at being aerodynamic, so you are using a lot of available power to move the machie at any given time. ICEs can stay at a given RPM and use marginally more or less fuel. Zero has a "dual sport" bike out and it has half the range of my Panamerica.
      I have thought about buying an electric bike for a while now, but only for the work commute. I just still can't get past all the batteries being made in a country that wants my country erased from existence.

    Congrats sir... awesome project!! One quick note about that lady that... uh... nudged you. Basically most people when they're driving don't "see" motorcycles as their brains are wired to look for cars. So yeah... when she said she didn't see you, it's a dangerous thing riders have to deal with. I would recommend taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course if y'all haven't as they go over a lot of things like this, and ways to ride that'll make you more visible (yes that sounds stupid to say, but the numbers don't lie sadly). When I last took the course 20 years ago (fuck I'm old now), and I think the numbers are still the same, you improve your odds of not being in an accident by 90% by taking it. The reason is according to the numbers, 90% of all motorcycle riders involved in an accident had no form of actual rider training. So just by taking the course you're taking yourself out of that group.

One time I rode, got gas, rode up a mountain and down the other side, got gas, came back up the mountain and down again, refill again, and then ride all the way home, and got more gas. So I charging doesn't make sense to me. Maybe if you just need it for driving around a small town to the store and back, but it's a lot of money just for a grocery getter bro. These guys have an interesting idea that would reduce the cost a used bike with parts from eBay. 90 miles of range really isn't a lot. But they could carry normal batteries. Problem is that eats the storage. I like storage

      Shredding tyres would be my primary concern with a Harley. A proper sportsbike needs to accelerate, brake and handle almost unbelievably well, but a Harley has only two purposes in life, emitting noise and shredding tyres either by doing burnouts or trying to get 150 tons of sand cast muck metal off the mark without stalling, and since this one is silent, it has only ONE purpose which it seems to be almost perfect for.

    • @Todd66
      @Todd66 Před rokem +1

      @@theParticleGod You should actually ride a Harley. That particular model handles just fine for what it is. As a matter of fact, at low speeds, that Harley actually handles better than ANY sport bike. For just riding around on, they are actually pretty cool to ride. They just do not have a abundance of power is my only problem with that Harley. To get power in them, you have to spend copious amounts of money.

    • @theParticleGod
      @theParticleGod Před rokem

      @@Todd66 I have ridden on Harleys before, I think I get what people like about them, obviously they're not made for flicking down a twisty road with sparks flying off the exhaust hangers, but they have a cool hot rod vibe, and suit the kind of riding where you take in the scenery. And the noise is transcendent, especially when you have a bunch of them riding together.
      My main problem with them, and one of the main reasons that I mock them is because (until very recently), I don't think they gave a shit how unsafe their vehicles were as long as they preserved the old skool style. Which apparently meant handling and, disturbingly, stopping like something from the 1950s - even as acceleration improved past anything but competition bikes from that time.
      I absolutely get that they are not meant to be ridden in a manner that exposes flaws in handling, braking and throttle response. Unfortunately, all those things that Harleys are not designed for are exactly the kind of things that a vehicle might need to do to avoid or reduce the effects of crashing.
      Having said that, they have been leaders in the use of electronic safety devices like ABS, so they seem to be turning the ship around.

    • @Todd66
      @Todd66 Před rokem

      @@theParticleGod my problem with them is the lack of power and poor manufacturing quality. I don’t ride sport bikes any more, so a cruiser or bagger or even a tourer is more my style these days. What I do like about them is the comfort, the low speed handling and the massive aftermarket support. But even with all of that, I still do not ride a Harley. My best friend has a 07 Harley just like the one in the video ( except it’s white ). I love how the bike sounds, I really like that it’s fuel injected and as I have mentioned, the low speed handling of the bike makes it a pleasure to ride and it crushes miles on the Highway. I ride a Honda Valkyrie and it’s 7 years older than my buddies Harley, but out performs the Harley and cost MUCH less to own and maintain. The sound of my Valkyrie is intoxicating with 6 into 6 exhaust. The only thing about the Harley that is “better” than my Honda is that the Harley is Fuel Injected and my Valkyrie has 6 Carburetors.

    Excellent work guys! Now just for some perspective: I dare you guys to build a H2 ICE Harley- Davidson: This Hydrogen fuel driven V-twin has wins on all sides: No emission, and yet true sound and true Harley feel to it! Do you want to reach the vast majority of Harley riders...? Then the H2 ICE solution is the one I'd say. --> in fact if you calculate from cradle to cradle, the H2 ICE solution is a lot better for the environment, but you already told us that this was no motivation for you to do what you do, right? One more blunt statement: Electric vehicles are not part of the solution, they are part of the environmental problem to begin with, that is if you calculate you carbon foot print purely from cradle to cradle. After all, you don't pick a battery from a tree when it's ripe, you'll have to mine all the raw materials first, and that's incredibly damaging to the environment. and while in use at the end user, the e-vehicle takes electrical power generated by coal and nuclear power plants. And at the end of its cycle, it will have to be environmentally friendly demolished...which is not possible.
