      MrTehbigcheese Nope Gerrard wasn't in the top 3 but in the top 6. And in my opinion Toure should have been above Hazard, Toure's goal and assist tally last season were phenomenal especially for a player in midfield. Toure was 3rd in top scorer list, 1 behind Sturridge yet Toure is a midfielder. He scored more than Aguero, Rooney etc. Hazard as a winger has more opportunity to score than a central midfielder and Toure still scored more than him.

    "He's had a decent season" - He's one of only two players to reach 20 goals in a season as a midfielder and he's had much more of an impact in big games than Suarez who went off the boil just as Liverpool needed him most.
    Frank Lampard too missed out on player of the year the season he scored 22, so definitely a bias towards forwards but I also agree with Toure that there's a bias against african players too.

      That was exactly my reaction. A "decent" season????? Silva made a greater contribution to Man City's success than Toure?? Those are precisely the comments that prove Toure's point. By the way, in addition to his amazing goal scoring efforts this year, his passing was mind-blowing. Not did he maintain a remarkable accuracy percentage, some of his passes seemed to defy law of physics. Whether or not he should be footballer of the year is a moot question. The question really is: does he get the recognition he deserves on the world scale? In England, maybe. In the rest of the world, not a chance.

We almost always have to work 3X as hard to get half the credit. And each time someone speaks up like Yaya Toure did, the response is always the same just like the guy on the show said. Some things you just wont understand till you wear our shoes. Eto'o excellent season with Barcelona 2006. Cannavaro? won world cup. Who gets ballon d'or 2006? Cannavaro. And me makes history for being first defender to win Ballon d'or. Food for thought.

Yaya is also an example of how a great midfielder can alter the balance of victory for his mates on the pitch. He is the pride of the midfielders, too. And, if you love the game, you should be proud of him, too.

    It's so unfair that Yaya along with Nasri are saying that his nationality is preventing him from receiving praise. I think that's total bullshit. Yaya Toure is very highly regarded throughout the Premier League, and other leagues. Everyone knows he's one of the world's best, and would walk into any team in the world. It's so unfair that he's pretty much accusing the public of being racist, and saying that because he's African people don't regard him so highly. It's total bullshit. He's as highly regarded as any other central midfielder in the Premier League. I'm a United fan, and I'd take Toure in the United team any day of the week. He's hands down better than what we have in CM at this present time. It's so unfair that he's making these claims. It's like when Sol Campbell accused the English FA of not appointing him as captain because he was black. It's complete rubbish. Why do some people go looking for reasons and excuses to practically call people racist?! It does my head in. Sol Campbell wasn't picked as captain, obviously because whoever was in charge didn't see him as a candidate. The same thing with Yaya Toure. Everyone I've ever spoken to about him knows and admits that he's world class, and among the best in the world. Plenty of African players have been highly regarded in football. Drogba, Eto'o, Essien, KP Boateng, Keita, Lauren, MIlla, Weah and both Toure brothers are among a long list of African players who people have loved to watch play. Making claims that people don't regard Yaya as good because he's African are both bullshit and completely unfair.

      @Jstardre2 Před 9 lety +2

      And you didn't hear the rubbish that the guy at the end of the video said? "Silva is more of a contribution to the team?" When David Silva only scored 22 goals in his entire City career, while Toure scored 20 in one season? Sure he is highly recognized, but not enough. For a midfielder who scored as many goals as him and made as many assists, definitely not enough. Any midfielder with such precision and goal tally would easily be considered the best midfielder in the world at least. But no, not even recognized as the best midfielder in the world. There are other players who had similar numbers and were on the top three for best player in the world, like Messi and Kaka. But when a midfielder like Toure comes out with all these skills you don't even name him best midfielder in the world?

    • @fazer990
      @fazer990 Před 9 lety +1

      Jire Mukawa But naming someone as 'the best midfielder in the world' is completely down to opinion. Just because one person may say that Yaya Toure isn't the world's best, doesn't make him/ her a racist does it. Why is it that whoever doesn't think he is, is branded a racist? What about if a white midfielder had those numbers, and an African man said he wasn't the best in the world, would he then also be a racist? Of course he wouldn't, no one would accuse him of it. It's only because Yaya is African, playing the race card like that is totally unfair.
      And to be considered the best in the world, Yaya would have to replicate the form he showed last season, every season. He's yet to reach even half the standard this year as he was last year, so he can't be the world's best. And look at the sulk he had over the summer when he was upset that he wasn't wished happy birthday. Hardly the attitude you'd expect from one of the world's best players is it. Someone like Iniesta, Xavi, Zidane, Scholes, Schweinsteiger are considered the world's best, because they've done it/did it over a long time, the same high standard every season. Yaya had one incredible season last year, but that doesn't mean he's the world's best. Before last season he was good, but nowhere near as good as last year. Same this year, he's nowhere near as good as he was.
      I hate it that he's playing the race card just because he's saying he's not considered as good as he wants people to consider him. It's totally unfair.
      Yaya Toure is a great footballer, one of the league's best midfielders, but to be considered one of the world's best he would have to reach the standards he did last year for a number of years. He can't just play one amazing season then sulk because he's not got the praise he wants. And to bring it down to saying that people are practically racist is a disgusting accusation to make.

    • @Jstardre2
      @Jstardre2 Před 9 lety +2

      fazer990 Not once did he accuse anyone of being racist. Race is not the issue here. He feels that he is looked down upon because he is "African", not because he is black. Do you really think he would say something that stupid when there were great black players in the past who got incredible recognition like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vierra and even Pele? They were all black. But they weren't African. They were South American/European. So calm down. The term "race card" here is irrelevant.
      But I'm not surprised that you reacted this way. In your mind, black people always complain about racism. So if a black guy comes out on TV and decides to talk about an issue that he sincerely feels sad about and honestly feels that he is living everyday, then he is "pulling the race card." Notice how you jumped to that conclusion without even thinking about it. Don't you think that you were a bit racist yourself for assuming that? If Landon Donavon came out on TV and said that he was underrated because he was American, you would have most likely agreed with him, and not say "he is pulling the race card."
      But anyway, try walking in an African's boots and you would realize that he has good reasons to feel the way he feels. What if there was some midfielder from Brazil or Argentina today that hit those numbers? Or from England or France? You know the media would be all over that player. That's what happened to Messi and Kaka when they first hit those numbers. Notice how every time Toure scores a goal, the media only talks about his "power" and "speed", and never his intelligence or finesse on the field. I saw one comment earlier in which a guy brought up a good point about a goal he scored at Chelsea last year. The goal was all about finesse and technique but the media described it as a "bulldozing run". His vision, technique, and decision making are just as good as Xavi, Pirlo or Viera's. But the media will always try to overlook that if they can when it comes to African players. No, Africans are all about brute strength and stamina for the media. And you know this is true.
      Sure it's a matter of opinion, but notice how these "opinions" are always unfavorable to Africans. That guy in the video just said that Silva had a more relevant season than him!!!!!! I think that in itself is enough proof of what Toure was trying to say.

    • @fazer990
      @fazer990 Před 9 lety

      Jire Mukawa I'm not sure you need to tell me to 'calm down'. I'm completely calm thanks. I just think Yaya uses the term 'African' instead of black, because that's how he feels. It's like when Americans use the term 'African American' instead of 'black man/woman'. And that isn't me being racist at all. One of the predominant physical features of an African man is that he is black. If someone said during a sentence, 'an African footballer,' the image most people create in their heads is a black skin coloured man. Not all African people are black, of course, but more often than not, African footballers are black.
      But there have been plenty of African players who have been regarded as some of the finest footballers to grace a pitch. Samuel Eto'o was one of the best strikers to ever play in Europe, as was Didier Drogba, and they were regarded so highly because they performed to an incredible level year after year. As good as Yaya is, he only really hit world beating form last year, when he scored all those goals and probably was the best midfielder in the Premier League. My point is that he isn't considered the 'very best' in the world, as Nasri says he should be, simply because he isn't the best in the world. Nothing to do with him being African. Why would it be because of that?! It's totally irrelevant about where a player comes from, if he's the world's best, then he's the world's best. When Drogba was at his peak, everyone always said that he was one of the best, if not the best striker in the Premier League, and Europe.
      My point is that I don't think it's fair that Yaya says it's because he's African, as though people would think 'Yaya Toure is good, but he's not THAT good, because he's African'. It's ludicrous for him or anyone else to assume that. Because if someone did let the nationality of a player affect how highly thought of they were, that's definitely discrimination, and completely unfair. The reason people don't say Yaya is the best is because he isn't the best. Look at him this year, he's nowhere near the player he was last year. To be regarded as the world's best, he'd have to be performing just as he did last year, every single year, but he hasn't continued that form. Midfielders like Schweinsteiger, Alonso, Fabregas, are all performing far better than him at present time. I personally believe that it has absolutely nothing to do with him being African, and if there are certain people who are turned off by the fact that he is, then they are extremely naiive and stupid to let that have an affect on how good they think he is.

    • @Jstardre2
      @Jstardre2 Před 9 lety

      fazer990 Why? Why do you think Yaya Toure is using the term "African", as a cover up for the word "black"? He knows that there are black players who have been highly recognized in Europe, as I just said. You definitely do need to calm down. Just because African Americans do that, doesn't mean that is what Yaya is trying to do. You are being racist by assuming that he is complaining about racism, because he clearly isn't. He even says himself that he's not calling anybody a racist, so I don't see your point with that.
      Did it ever occur to you that maybe he knows what he is talking about? He is a professional football player, who is familiar with the way things go down in the world of European football. You may think that it's not because he's African, but that doesn't mean that 's how others feel. HE is the one experiencing it. Not you. What if he is desperately crying for help, and people like you are just ignoring it and saying "he is pulling the race card"?
      He is not even trying to claim the title of best midfielder, player or anything. Yaya Toure is simply saying that African players aren't as recognized as other players who play at the same level. He isn't speaking for himself in this interview. If you heard, he also said that it's an issue that is talked about amongst other African players as well. I saw an interview in French with Samuel Eto'o and he was making similar statements.
      Did you read my points about the way the media subliminally dismisses every high level attribute besides "power" and "speed" when they talk about African players? Have you ever heard a journalist talk about Samuel Eto'o's or Drogba's vision, intelligence or finesse? They never do, and there's an incentive for it. It's a technique that they use to discredit Africans as legitimate high level football players, in favour of Europeans and South Americans.
