  • Learn how to use rigid strapping tape to re-align a bunion (hallux valgus) with Physical Therapist, Andrew Wynd. This is a small excerpt of the award winning, "Banish Your Bunions" course, which is available from the Freestyle Feet website here: 👇

    Bunions are a common problem and have a variety of known risk factors: including over pronation, previous injury and there is also a strong genetic component. Footwear is also known to be a consideration in their development. As soon as you notice the toe deviating, take action by using tape, wearing toe spreaders such as Flamingo Feet and as always, seek a professional medical opinion to avoid them worsening.

    Hello Eva,

    Thank you for this video. I have suffered from painful bunions for years and finally have a solution, but I will try this as well.

    Thank you sharing this, very informative. I have a bunion which is very similar to your model. It not so evident but it does cause problems sometimes and other times not so much. I have had my feet taped by an podiatrist which my feet felt so good for 5 days then I removed the tape. I ran out of funds so could not keeping seeing the podiatrist. I will try this. Thank you again. Oh I had an xray learning also I have arthritis in my toes. Metarsal pad is wearing out plus the bunion which are all on my Left foot, My right foot is fine.

      You are most welcome. The taping should really help then based on your past experience. It can be a little tricky to master but makes a big difference. Then strengthen your foot muscles to help maintain alignment

      Yes it is waterproof and I would suggest leaving it on for a few days, then a day off for the skin to recover and then repeat

    Wondering when you suggest to do taping? As a runner with severe bunions that pulsate with pain and callouses after every run I'm wondering if this is a method I could incorporate before/after runs.... assuming this isn't something you'd be able to run with as I don't think my shoes would accommodate that much tape.

    • @freestylefeet2063
      @freestylefeet2063  Před rokem +3

      Great question- we like to tape for 1-2 days at a time then take a break to give the skin a rest. However in your situation being a runner - I would certainly suggest trying to tape for runs. The tape will fit well into most shoes and is well tolerated. Otherwise we will use kinesiotape which is very flexible. Lastly, if you need more room in your running shoes check out brands like Topo and Altra which have a wide toe box

    QUESTION: what % of tension are you using when tapping?? Ie: 40%, 70 % etc etc

    • @freestylefeet2063
      @freestylefeet2063  Před 10 měsíci

      Great question - this depends on the degree of correction required. Ideally 40%, otherwise the tension can be a little too strong to last, but in short - enough to straighten the toe

  • @TKem85
    @TKem85 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Do you tape every day? Is the tape costly?

    • @freestylefeet2063
      @freestylefeet2063  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I suggest leaving the tape on for a short period-1,2 days then giving your skin a rest and then repeating. Tape is not that expensive , and research shows it is effective for short term bunion treatment

      Severe angulation is challenging to correct without surgery, the steps will likely assist with discomfort and hopefully prevent further angulation
