Boards of Canada don't have Jacks channel in their youtube channel selection for nothing! I can hear some influences fed from each other. Two of the best bands of our generation.
So glad I discovered this! I saw MBM in LA about 10 years ago and I saw how they do this sort of thing live. Super awesome and kudos to Jack for digging thru thousands of hours of old records, tapes and videos to find this stuff.
for YEARS i've always wondered how MBM got such beautifully fat beats - layers! to be able to see it is amazing - he was big beat and dub before there was big beat and dub
The very best video editing and layering I've ever seen. Simply laid down for a killer groove! I've watched this over 100 times by now! Who's that cat in the lower left that comes in at 1:26 with that funky-ass syncopated snare beat?! That knocks me for a loop!! Thanks Jack!
Genius indeed...check out EBN (emergency broadcast network) from the early 90's. They were the first electro group to do an entire video release which matched the album continuously showing the drum clips, movie samples, and other sound source reveals...very insane if you can still find it.
I have the full catalog of EBN off some random site hosting it all found on google. Hit me up if ts impossible to find and il forward tracks to be re-hosted. Thanks teo, people need to know.
I'll see what I can come up with I guess I should have mentioned the site hosting said vids... its all good though, I'm a decent researcher either way, I give you a 90% chance of success.
Jack produced a lot of the EBN stuff and contributed the music they used. He's got some claim to the concept. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunication_Breakdown
While I've been a follower of Jack and MBM for the past 25 years or so, to my recollection, I can't believe I've not seen this video before. The first thought that came to mind was that this looks like a "kissin' cousin" to any one of the Josh Pearson/EBN vids from back in the day. Both are equally impressive and talented artists.
Does anyone know the name of the video-splicing software MBM uses? I know it's a particular application/real-time splicing device they use, and I recognize the effect seen at 1:10 on the keyboard player from their live shows circa 2006-2008. I just can find any info on it!
Super cool. Also check out Emergency Broadcast Network. They were doing this kind of thing in the early nineties using some of the same source material as in this video. EDIT: yeah, I'm only about 5 years too late with that comment.
9 years after it was uploaded, this is still probably the best thing on youtube !
Its up there!
Floats my boat!
9 years after it was uploaded, 20 years after the video was made.
Yes
but its only a test !
"This material will never be out of date. These are core loops" - word to that
core grooves
it's Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials instructional video, a legend
Boards of Canada don't have Jacks channel in their youtube channel selection for nothing! I can hear some influences fed from each other. Two of the best bands of our generation.
They don't run the channel.
Ahh..meat beat brings back the best memories of the early 90's. What a great time for music that was. What a great time to be alive that was.
So glad I discovered this! I saw MBM in LA about 10 years ago and I saw how they do this sort of thing live. Super awesome and kudos to Jack for digging thru thousands of hours of old records, tapes and videos to find this stuff.
This is a test. This is only a test.

Being a drummer myself, had I seen this video in the 90's on an acid trip, my brain would have MELTED!!! MBM FTW!
Man lemme tell you - it was a challenge
But yet it wasn't
Take one now !
Jack Dangers - bloody brilliant! 'This material will ever, ever be out of date...' Too freakin' right! Real breaks forever!!!

once you’ve chosen your drum parts, play the same licks all the time. Don’t change.”😂❤
that GranTree jingle brings back a lot of memories for me
no one does beats better than Jack!
Jack had a groove.........
It was the groove of all grooves!
Wow. I remember my second band having two drummers when we performed. Wild. This is some sick drumming right here son.
Behold, The Jack, master of the drum loop. Hail Jack
Watched Chic and Nile Rogers videos from esrly 2000s and recognized Omar Hakim. Thanks to this video!
oh man, pure energy
meat beat manifesto is still relevant for what Dangers has done as a whole today. this track (2012) is proof.
Don't change
Never gets old. LOVE
That’s what I call an editing master class!
I love the sneaky look at the camera the first drummer gives. It's like he KNOWS he's in a loop.
This comment makes me feel like I'm on acid again... Acid again... Acid again... Acid again...

The very best video editing and layering I've ever seen. Simply laid down for a killer groove!

As a baby Omar probably didn't play with the rattle until he got another one so he can use them as sticks. Lol. What a legend.
0:17 - is that Omar Hakim? Saw him behind Weather Report in '81 and to date hands down the best drummer I've ever experienced
Yes!
This is my happy pill.
nurtured and fostered by the powers of hell!
..."in full view of thousands of young people."
dope-filled entertainers and performers that beat upon their guitars and drums and instruments...
@@cooptrol As if guitars and drums weren't "instruments." I never got that. What the hell, Jimmy Swaggart?
@@jwesley235 hahaha precision wasn't one of his virtues
Class!!!!

+иazaxprime Do you still have the complete EBN catalogue? I've had trouble finding their stuff.
I'll see what I can come up with I guess I should have mentioned the site hosting said vids... its all good though, I'm a decent researcher either way, I give you a 90% chance of success.

JD brilliance - don't change
MBM at least 2 decades ahead of their time!!! Fact!!
jack pretty much helped invent drum and bass. see: the original Radio Babylon.
decided to play along to this like the description suggests, how do i chop and screw a slow motion cymbal hit in real time on a standard drum kit?
Fuuuhhhhhk yeah !
i also love the "transformer like" scratches...or "scratch effects" on the synth interludes!!!...sounds like dj greg wretch was there!
That subkick at 0:19 is a F'in blast, it's just a detail but damn. It needs to be louder.
Thats the shit!
Very cool stuff :-)
Make me jump!
