the opposite of red is cyan. not green, not blue, but halfway in-between the two on the color wheel. the opposite of magenta is green.

I find really funny that DGR played the level better with the inverted colours than the actual colours 😂.

Fun fact: If you put your device on inverted mode you can watch the video like normal except DGR himself will be inverted

@@CaveMiner Kinda. I inverted the colors and it looks weird. Like sure, some of the things it got right, but other stuff it didn't. For example, Piranha Plants are blueish and have magenta leaves.

I was disappointed that there weren't more color-based puzzles.
To be fair, the "don't kill piranha plant" troll at around 10:00 was a color troll. Since the only visual difference between fire Mario and mushroom Mario is a different color, the troll was to try and trick you into accidentally shooting a fireball. It didn't work on Dave, but that's what the troll was regardless.
I feel like there were a couple more but I can't name them exactly.
Also, the non-existent Fire Flower when you had to pick between the Fire Flower and the Boot.

I didn't expect any more from Dave, but it always baffles me how people have such trouble figuring out opposite colors. Have so few people seen color wheels? Yellow-blue, green-magenta, red-cyan...perhaps a little of that stems from people identifying everything in the cyan range as some form of blue or green but still...

keep in mind, those are not really inverted colors since color is a frequency of photons that gets combined to form other specific frequencies.
what you are referring to are inverted brightnesses in the sRGB color space.
think of it as a vector holding 3 numbers between 0.0 and 1.0, one for each channel. so black becomes white (none becomes all), red becomes cyan (g+b) green becomes magenta (r+b), blue becomes yellow (r+g), etc.
I don’t know about you, but those weren’t the complimentary colors I was taught…
I never knew what cyan even was until I happened to see it in our printer ink; Anything I learned about RGB I learned on my own.
So yeah, a lot of people don’t bother to study RGB color closely cause RYB does just fine.
@@phosphorus4 people will rarely learn anything about color spaces and its specifications besides physical paint until they specifically deal with a digital art medium (including printers).
also, quick reference for printers, they are basically 3 combinations of the sRGB, but in the inverse scale, where 0.0 is no ink (preserving the white of the paper) and 1.0 will be black (from all color points combined). and physically, certain colors may require more or require less of an ink to give out a certain color (except for black. black does not require cyan ink. manufacturers telling you that cyan makes the black more black are a scam)

So, in case you ever need to know, inverted colors are based on the ‘primary colors of light’ (RGB). The exact shade of the colors can vary a bit depending on exactly what shade it was originally, but generally speaking:
Inverted Red is Cyan
Inverted Green is Magenta
Inverted Blue is Yellow.
The pipes at the beginning (Purple, Light Blue, Red, and Dark Blue), therefore, would be Green, Red, Blue, and Yellow respectively.

Ah inverted color levels i've made quite a lot of them...not sure if i was the first one to do it but i started that like back in 2022 i think maybe even earlier
Fun fact: by using inverted colors you can create themes that you can't get normally...smw cave becomes an ice cave nsmbu can be a lava cave 3d world underwater becomes lava underwater just to name some examples

Pro tip, enable color inversion on your phone, and it still doesn't match up, but it is closer. I guess they use different ways of determining opposites.

The color inversion mode on my phone only inverted the brightness, not the colors. So the shadows, white, and black looked correct but the color was still hur shifted

Easy, look at what colour Mario’s hat is (If you’re playing with Mario) and since his hat is red normally you can choose the pipe that resembles Mario’s hat when inverted the most

i inverted my colours but it clearly used a different inversion algorithm so now everything looks slapped
I inverted it and everything looks normal to me. Also, you don’t use an algorithm to inverted the colours you take the colour opposite on the colour wheel and replace it with that
there are multiple ways to define a colour space and multiple values that can be inverted when talking about digital graphics. what you described, "taking the colours position on a colour wheel and taking the opposite", this is an algorithm. not a very complex one by todays standards, maybe.
but clearly whatever my phone thinks colour inversion is is different from the Switch. i do suspect that it is specifically my phone having a weird algorithm to determine the colours inverse.
i am glad to hear though that yours works fine, so its probably an issue that i can look into and fix on my end!

There's still "meat on the bone" when it comes to Mario Maker 2, but these 4th Wall rules really add a little bit of spice to levels (whether troll or otherwise.)

What is the fun when playing it inverted? There are nearly no special fetaures in this level that are supported by the inversion. It is just an ordinary troll level.
