  • Aggressive puppies are rare and most of the time it's a puppy just being playful - biting and growling from excitement, rather than true aggression.
    But that doesn't mean they don't exist. Some puppies do have aggression towards owners, strangers, and/or other dogs.
    In this video, dog trainer, Alex Writz, discusses puppy aggression and what you need to do if you have an aggressive puppy on your hands.

      there’s no such thing as puppy aggression. They can’t even truly learn aggression until they are 9 months to a year old. Anything before that is not serious aggression. It’s puppy nonsense. Shouldn’t be even going to a trainer before at least eight months unless you have a dog that is seriously playing too rough with one of your other dogs and even then you’re gonna have to retrain it after the 8-9 month mark. When the puppies brain is developed enough to understand things and be serious. Most trainers would probably love you to bring a dog to them at three four or five months so you’ll have to bring them back at eight or nine months but those are bad trainers only wanting the money.

    I have a 5 month old Boston terrier puppy who does not come from a history of aggressive dogs to my knowledge I know a few people with dogs from the same breeder all are fine. I don’t think my puppy is “aggressive” I think he’s stubborn and he is alpha. When you say no, or raise your voice it just makes him bite more and jump in my face. But I fully think he has 0 bite inhibition and he wants to play, I just don’t know how to teach him to be gentle because right now nothing seems to work. I’ve watched so many videos on puppy biting and don’t find anything that has worked.

      @@filmsta5sixtoosie Hi, unfortunately no not really. My dog is 15 months now and is still quite aggressive when it comes to playing or demanding attention. I have been using a shock collar with a vibrate and beep function and every time he gets too aggressive I press the vibrate button for the collar and it stops. I’ve only ever had to shock him a handful of times. I also will be enrolling him into a behaviour training class with a reputable trainer. I think I made a lot of mistakes when he was really young so if your pup is only 8 weeks I’d get on top of it now, especially for a pitbull, once’s he’s full grown that could be dangerous.

    I have a nice beagle puppy but sometimes gets aggressive when he’s too playful. He growls at us and bites when he doesn’t want to be picked up or wants his way. He also bites my older beagle a little too much when they play too much. I don’t see him stiff but I worry about some of his behavior sometimes.

    • @hound_games
      @hound_games  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Staphanie, it can definitely be a worry. It's important to persist with ending play as soon as your puppy shows unwanted behavior. Turning your attention away. If they bite too hard, yelp and stop play. It's also important to not yell or discipline growling, as this will be a warning sign going forward for you. You don't want to remove the warning sign. I'd also recommend you find a dog behaviorist to help you if the behavior worsens or continues.

    • @hound_games
      @hound_games  Před 2 lety +1

      Often normal puppy growling and teething is misinterpreted as aggression. If your puppy has a loose and wiggly body during their growling or biting, it's likely normal puppy behavior. If they bite too hard, make a cry noise and stop the game.

    Sorry MOST aggression issues are the result of humans NOT doing the work to train their dog. Or to exercise it enough.
    You can't just want a cute puppy or breed dogs but not put the work in.
    Don't get a dog if you work 24/7 and you do not have time for your animal. I have seen it alot. Dogs are unsocialised, aggressive, pull so hard on a leash they nearly dislocate your arm. And owners are like yeah we want to breed the dog. I know you earn money off the breeding but if you can't train your dog, do not be so DAMN selfish. Because it is not really about the dog you kind of care for, it is about money. It is not cool. Pet hate of mine. I love animals but because i am at work full time and am not home much, i choose not to have a pet as it would make them suffer. Generally the dogs have issues because the owners do the wrong thing. Train the owner not the dog. Sorry about the rant, people ignore it until something bad happens and then its the dogs fault and the dog gets put down. Take responsibility. You want the pet. Put the work in.
