      Kevin Webb , I love Barney Kessel, but I think Wes Montgomery's chord melody was more interesting.

    @Birdland666 A lot of Kessel enthusiasts identify that guitar as an es-350 with charlie christian pickup and ebony fretboard. I think it might have been L7. Later in Kessel's career, Kessel refinished the guitar, masking Gibson label and relocating the pickup further away from the fretboard.

    • @edcherry9282
      @edcherry9282 Před 6 lety

      michaelmchung I am sure that guitar is an es 350.
      I think he had 2 of them .

      1946 ES-350. The Gibby logo was removed after Gibson ended the endorsement after Barney wasn't playing his namesake model- preferring to play the 350. Replaced the rosewood fretboard with ebony. His pickup was the CC on the more upscale (than the 150 played by Christian) ES-250. Slightly more cobalt content. Barney liked my Heritage H-550, which has the exact dimensions of a Tal Farlow. He held it, and liked my customization that had a CC pickup from a ES-175 CC on it. Was the best time ever, spending it on an Easter Sunday at his SD home in '98. Yeah, I'm a fan.- Charles Bevell Bloomington, IN

      @@edcherry9282 He told me that he had 25 instruments at one time, one being a banjo! His 350 actually was for sale a year ago for $6,000. Needed extensive repair, but.... if I only had $6K!- Charles Bevell

      @@suebevell4347 There is an interview on video of him talking about that guitar. He said the guitar is a 1946 model and the pick up from 1939.Also had knobs for volume and tone taken from a record player he said; which u can see in this clip.

    • @martinroberts8469
      @martinroberts8469 Před 5 lety

      @Ruba galline - Your'e probably right. I believe he changed the original pickup at some stage, but it's a 1940s Gibson guitar (not sure of the model) he used almost exclusively all of his professional career. His choice of pickup helped him achieve his unique sound.
