@Ruba galline - Your'e probably right. I believe he changed the original pickup at some stage, but it's a 1940s Gibson guitar (not sure of the model) he used almost exclusively all of his professional career. His choice of pickup helped him achieve his unique sound.
@Birdland666 A lot of Kessel enthusiasts identify that guitar as an es-350 with charlie christian pickup and ebony fretboard. I think it might have been L7. Later in Kessel's career, Kessel refinished the guitar, masking Gibson label and relocating the pickup further away from the fretboard.
1946 ES-350. The Gibby logo was removed after Gibson ended the endorsement after Barney wasn't playing his namesake model- preferring to play the 350. Replaced the rosewood fretboard with ebony. His pickup was the CC on the more upscale (than the 150 played by Christian) ES-250. Slightly more cobalt content. Barney liked my Heritage H-550, which has the exact dimensions of a Tal Farlow. He held it, and liked my customization that had a CC pickup from a ES-175 CC on it. Was the best time ever, spending it on an Easter Sunday at his SD home in '98. Yeah, I'm a fan.- Charles Bevell Bloomington, IN
@@edcherry9282 He told me that he had 25 instruments at one time, one being a banjo! His 350 actually was for sale a year ago for $6,000. Needed extensive repair, but.... if I only had $6K!- Charles Bevell
@@suebevell4347 There is an interview on video of him talking about that guitar. He said the guitar is a 1946 model and the pick up from 1939.Also had knobs for volume and tone taken from a record player he said; which u can see in this clip.
Unglaublich was dieser Mensch aus einem Stück Holz mit Verstärker und Saiten herausholt !!
Always lost for words when I`m once again being amazed by one of the worlds very best jazz guitarists. A master.
I guess the dislikes are for some sub par camera angles that’s the only reason I could justify a dislike
Been watching this performance for over a decade
Excelente Barney Kessel
ol' Barney really rips it up on this one
How could anyone put a thumbs down on this great music?
Fucking amplifier
why does the Cellos player look like comethiezine but in the past
nice to see my friend barney...miss you
Genial, lleno de ideas para improvisar y esos acordes màgicos que usa en todo momento. De lo mejor que diò la guitarra de Jazz.
My man! Mr. Barney K. Always delivering
I love the way they swing this samba. Joyous indeed.
Nobody but nobody entertains with such techncial ability as Barney Kessel. His repertoire of chord-melody is unsurpassed by anyone.
Kevin Webb , I love Barney Kessel, but I think Wes Montgomery's chord melody was more interesting.
You're both right :)

@@montysoomer6575 With two guys on that level its all a matter of taste :)
@@montysoomer6575 It’s okay to think!
I love it! Barney at his finest laying it down!
Did you hear that drum fill at 2:53? The drummer and Mr. Kessel played like the exact same rhythm, that was mind blowing!
Not that impressive, but still the guy looks like a Republican, so I guess its pretty impressive.
Wow! Do you play?
I loved the guy and was a great friend RIP Barney.
En wikifonia. org, encontré una partitura no muy exacta, pero sirve.
Anyone have a spare year to get this one tab-ed :-)
it's got the 2nd Charlie Christian pickup, i think
