  • This was a fun build! Shortly after I got this boat, I realized it could be tough to operate if the wind and current was ripping. And if I was to rent this to people, I felt it should be more fun and less work.
    Now that I know the build was a success, I'll soon have a cool new, easy to operate boat for a family to rent. And like I mention in the video, I might just get another for those that aren't afraid to get a workout. Because, really, the Monaco DLX wasn't that bad right outta the box.
    My thanks to Pelican for the good deal on the boat
    www.pelicansport.com/products...
    And many thanks to Coleman. The lil outboard is doing great!
    www.colemanpowersportsusa.com...
    And, of course to Scotty, for your continued support.

    Last, but not least, Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards the creation of Zoffinger's. Patrons, renters and watchers of my videos all help make this possible!

      Mark Decker yeah Marty was/is a professional tradesman carpenter with extremely talented skills in design, construction, home decor, and especially kayak modification. I guess we can add water craft modification to his ability. I truly love watching his ideas come to life. He has the ability to make home made look better than factory!!!! I agree some comments below; electric is the way to go. If a customer comes into your shop to rent the paddle boat (with motor) and is new to the water, even a small gas outboard could be a problem waiting to happen. A electric trolling motor with the right amount of thrust to move the paddle boat around at decent amount speed for a beginner or novice boater is the safest choice for you :-)

    Well, you asked for opinions, so....
    Yeah, being in the rental business like you are, I think it's important to give customers choices of things they can choose from, and I think an additional pedal boat would go over great.
    When I was a kid, we ran the crap outta those things at summer camp, and you were saying how familys needed more choices of boats with more capacity, which this does.
    If mom & dad are out on kayaks, then the kids can pedal around on this, and the parents won't be worried about the kid's safety in onna these things. Plus it's just good, clean, fun way for kids to burn off energy!!
    Hope the business is doing well, and keep these videos coming!

    I have seen those pedal boats modified with a cheap, tiller controlled trolling motor. The shaft is cut down so that it replaces the original steering control. The original rudder is connected to the new trolling motor shaft. The paddle wheel remains intact. You still have a completely operational pedal boat but with a twist of the throttle of the trolling motor it will go faster than two people can pedal on a sprint.

What I wanted to say was this , you need to get a bandsaw. They don't cost a lot but in certain situations they work a lot better than what you are using. Okay just thought I'd drop that. Love the videos, can't wait to see how this ex- pedal boat works!

    Found this exact same boat without the motor of course, at the bottom of the lake. Me and my buddy attached para cord to it with our yaks and it took us hours of thinking and finally a pulley system to pull it out. Then after 7 hours of pulling it we finally get it to the truck. Then it takes us another hour or two to fit the two seater kayaks and this huge paddle boat in my short wide bed lol. Good times.

      @@Biowolf626 Yes, but if you have a decent battery that can provide duration for the motor, then you'll be able to slow down the drain output slightly with solar panels. Example, if we got a battery that could provide us 1 hour of full throttle with the motor, then with the help of solar panels, we could add on more minutes to the power lifetime. Also when not using the power, you'll very slowly but still charge your batteries, unless you hook up bunch of 12 volt stuff to the boat like stereo and shit.

I hardly ever need it on high though. at most with a bass boat you only need to go 2mph when trolling down bank. Kick it on high when I need to move a short distance but dont want to use the gas engine. Moves my boat about 11mph on high.

From one Marty to another thanks for taking the time to share. Ours will be utilizing Cam 2 and as lean a mixture as the temp gun says I can skate with. B safe brother -From VA.

    Put on an electric but leave the peddle part attached instead of taking paddles along. Two ways to drive the boat because that's the only way some people can burn calories is sitting down. Very cool build though, good job! I have a hard time walking due to back problems and a drop foot. I would love to have one of those paddle boats for exercise while fishing.

    Q: Wouldn't the electric motor be better sneaking up on the fish? ;-) Great job though - I'd fit twin electrics . .

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD Před 4 lety +1

      ISTP 196 and how would you power said twin elecs for say, an 8 hour day on the water ? You’d have to run twin deep cycles and twin controllers. The batteries alone would weigh as much if not more than that little gas outboard. You’d also have a very limited range. Besides, fish don’t get spooked by outboards. Hell, they don’t get spooked by blown big block Chevys.

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD Před 4 lety +1

      Robomania there’s no way panels would keep two deep cycles topped off. Especially if you’re fighting the current and or a stiff breeze. Even the most modern brushless motors use lots of power.
