I will put Paul Simon on a par with Lennon and McCartney. Their creativity was quite unique, but then there were two of them. After 1970 and they had split, their individual talents did not quite match their partnership. Paul Simon worked alone, and occasionally matched the genius of that Liverpudlian duo.@@Legnerps

Not much of a Stern fan but this was a splendid interview - he was great - as was Mr. Simon.
He was a WAY better interviewer thirty years ago when he got people to open up about stuff. Now, he's just another Charlie Rose.

I can’t look at creation and not marvel at the creator behind it anymore than I can listen to Paul’s music and not marvel at the creator behind it. We are not an accident.
We are a product of millions of years of evolution that is a fact ,grow up.
I agree w/ you - the problem I see is when religions come in with their unwavering & absolute versions of the creation / after life / premortal life / etc.. There is no way any of them are absolutely correct on any of these topics; yet they are ALL mutually exclusive.

I think Paul answered Howard's question when he described where his music/art came from. It was not an accident or by chance matter...the creativity comes from God!

❤Bridge...a true shining example of American music at its best. When Paul completed it he said Art has to sing this, I can't.😢 I defy anyone not to become emotional listening to the strings at the end of the song.

I was raised in an extremely Catholic home that I often found to be oppressive. We were probably more Catholic than the Vatican. So when I left my parent's house I declared myself an atheist; believing that atheistism was simply a lack of religious belief. Over time I painfully discovered I didn't possess the faith required to be an atheist. Atheists and Darwinists are some of the most faith-filled people you will ever encounter. When I finally concluded that the chance of life randomly coming into existence was so profoundly remote that I found myself embracing the idea of a creator. I cannot tell you the mind of that creator or the nature of that creator the will of that creator but I am now convinced creation is far more likely than life being randomly generated. Good luck to all in figuring out this enigma for yourselves.
You do not understand what atheism is. It's simply rejecting the claim that a god exists due to lack of evidence. Faith is believing in something without evidence that it's real or true.
Forget everything you learned in the Roman Catholic Church. Start getting to know our Creator through His written WORD, the Bible. I promise you, if you are sincerely seeking, He will make Himself known to you.

Joni Mitchell over Dylan. Not crazy about either Dylan or Mitchell as persons, but just based on genius output. Dylan was very influential to me when he was young. Joni Mitchell was not, but overwhelmed by her sheer musical genius.
A great era of artists and musician etc is gradually passing and I don't think we have much to replace them. However we are blessed to have lived in at least some of their era.

It’s funny, because when I think of the afterlife, I always think of it in terms of a musical vibrations so when he speaks of being a conduit, that makes such perfect sense to me.

Great interview
I love the concept that it’s all just language describing the same feeling. You call it collective consciousness or god or infinite wisdom…it’s the same thing. Which means we really don’t have anything to argue about. We’re in the same boat
Paul Simon is, of course, one of the truly great musicians/lyricists of the last century . . . maybe longer. And Howard Stern has turned out to be a fabulous interviewer. This is a helluva interview.
I pray that Howard and Paul both discover the truth before this short life ends.

The Boxer for me although AT is in my Simon top 5. Both lyrical masterpieces.
Paul Nailed the songs coming from somewhere else. It really happens. His take on God is very close for me and many more. Free will, religion provides hope, but God I think leaves us alone to our own devices, then our body dies and that golden soul takes over. Where it goes nobody really knows but I'm hoping for a real kool heaven and meeting Elvis. God is love, and it's a thing, not an emotion.

I am really surprised he did not mention his album "Rhythm of Saints". That album especially you can feel the ancient spirits flowing through him as he acts a conduit for the divine energies. Graceland was incredible as well though.

what you are doing is called "projection". He does not seem scared. He knows there is some creative force in the universe as he's no doubt felt it while writing songs.
The only way to eternal life is repenting from sin...change your ways ,ask Jesus into your heart....without Jesus you will not go to heaven.....denying Jesus is the only unforgivable sin ❤
Doesn’t matter what you believe, the afterlife is a fantasy world. When the brain dies it’s lights out. You won’t have any senses to experience anything so don’t stress about it.

At best, we can learn valuable lessons and let our mistakes drive us to become better humans. Paul Simon is no exception, no matter how great the past 60 years have been.
