@@MarkRosasco-fi9tj Colbert was hosting Paul Simon on Colbert’s show and Colbert was graciously and generously hosting Paul Simon in a special format that honored and respected Paul Simon as the supreme artist that he is. The choice to have Paul Simon as a guest on Colbert’s show and to honor him in this way was Colbert’s choice and it was not a right to which Paul Simon’s artistry or legend entitles him.
As for who needs who, we all need each other. In this case, we need to hear the wisdom and artistry of Paul Simon; Paul Simon needs us, his audience, to hear and appreciate the beauty of his talent; and both Paul Simon and we, the audience, need Colbert to make this platform available for such sublime artistry to be expressed and appreciated. There is no “need” among these three aspects that is superior to the other, as the beautiful experience that was witnessed in this video would not have existed without any one of the three aspects missing. Like three legs on a stool, we all need each other for the stool to be strong and provide support.

Paul Simon is a master finger style guitarist, and a genius of composition.
Thanks to Martin Guitars for a wonderful instrument. I have two of them myself, and they are exceptional instruments.

A real life-long artist. I love how he's adjusted his writing/performing over the years to fit his voice as it ages. You may not sing exactly the same as you once did, but you can always sing. Obstacles can either shut you down or inspire creativity. Great role model. Try to retain curiosity, wonder, openness and a learning mindset as long as possible.
