My female friend has Aspergers. She said that it can manifest differently in women, and is grossly undiagnosed. It may not be that it is more common in males.
Aurora9990 it’s undiagnosed cus nobody did research on girls with autism... another way sexism had ruined women’s lives...

Ok?
I know someone who is a therapist and recently found out that they think that myself and my brother may be autistic. Honestly I’m not too surprised, but Im still trying to learn more about autism. My brother is bullied a lot (he’s a lot younger than me) and I would protect him from them with my life if I could
Same. I’m autistic and my brother is just below the very serious section. He can still talk and all that though
I don't believe it's more common in men, just that women are far more undiagnosed
Unnusannus?
@@NathanWoyessa you can literally look up how autistic characteristics are displayed differently in girls therefore girls are under diagnosed for some reason girls take on almost like a chameleon effect and can mimic behavior therefore they have less of a chance to be diagnosed
Completely Agree. Since woman mask I can see why so many woman are misdiagnosed or go without knowing.
Exactly what I came to comment. Its so sad they only studied boys.

No one suffers from autism. They suffer from how people treat them for having autism.
Yes. And its not a "dysfunction" or a "disorder"
It’s true but there brain is wired they don’t talk sometimes they do talk but they talk in script what they Learned i have autism but sometimes I feel like I don’t exist just on autopilot ❤

Small misconception about Asperger’s:
Yes, we do look like we have less severe symptoms, but we don’t. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks. The only reason neurotypicals don’t see it is because, due to naturally higher IQ, we find it easier to hide it, or embrace it. When we hide it, we spend a lot of energy doing so, to look normal. For some people, this is the way they like to treat Asperger’s, and it can help sometimes. When we embrace it, we accept that we are different and we gain control over our symptoms. This is why some people with Asperger’s, like me, have rather obvious symptoms, like rocking back and forth, over-sensitive to loud noises, always needing to chew something, twirling my hair across my fingers, set patterns of actions across the day, talking to myself even though nobody’s listening. We embrace the uncommon brain-wave we were born with, because we are ok with the symptoms we got!
@Dr Yuching Lee that’s an awful thing to say, autism isn’t a disease, it doesn’t need to be reversed or cured, and it isn’t even possible anyway. if i was “cured” by autism, it’d be like taking my entire personality and sense of being away.
My son have been using this herbal product for 1month now, so far it has cured his ASD and eliminate his misbehavior as well, now he is verbal, I got this herbs from Dr Oyalo on his channel and it work perfectly.

Hi I have a question, what are your favorite movies?
I would believe talking to yourself next to the public situation. It can be like schizophrenia due to autism symptoms, Which is noticeable
People on the spectrum are odd to people not on the spectrum.
People not on the spectrum are odd to people who are on the spectrum.
That's how I view it.
I am confused about everyone. I relate to people on the spectrum but calling it a disability for some people on it is a joke
@@muhammadwaqas6102 calling it a disability is subjective. Whilst it can be a disability, it can make people more intelligent
@@muhammadwaqas6102 it’s a disability. It’s hard with social cues and directions that aren’t clear .

@@BRAIN_BLAST Actually, it's the bullies' fault, not the autistic person's fault. If you fail to understand autism, that's your problem. Start by doing propper research about it. Google should provide truthful sources for that.

So I think that girls have the same prevalence as guys, it’s just that we present differently than guys. In past studies only males were used because until more recently, they didn’t think it ever effected females. This means most data is skewed towards the more common male symptoms.
HDdonutman as wtf
My girlfriend who has aspergers said the same thing. She was diagnosed as an adult. She thinks I have it. I took a CZcams test, and according to the test, I don't have it. She told me those tests don't reflect female symptoms, and that I need to go to a expert that does understand aspergers in women.
What I've read is that women hide their autism with something called masking.
My son have been using this herbal product for 1month now, so far it has cured his ASD and eliminate his misbehavior as well, now he is verbal, I got this herbs from Dr Oyalo on his channel and it work perfectly.
@Pateck Aaron No, you cannot. It is literally a brain development disorder. It doesn’t go away.
I love the example of how you would literally take the seat when someone asks you to take your seat, and you ask "Where to?" I'm so literal like that!
same
How is that related to autism? I have autism and just like any other person, you would learn the first time someone asks you that question, that its not meant literal and its literally just rational use of the context its said. I never really had problems with "literal" phrases. Like you SHOULD know NOW that when someone says "take a seat", that they mean to.. i mean it literal means take a seat and sit down. The only hidden implication here is that you should sit down, which again, should be obvious. Literally just think 2 seconds if it makes sense to take it "literal" or not or if you have heard it before.. Generally if it doesn't make sense to be literal then you can assume its not meant literal. I literally cannot see how you can have a problem with that and i most definitely have atleast a kind of severe case of the asperger type autism. Maybe you have some other type but still, like, just think about it for 2 seconds and again, most of it is learned from memory so at best your memory is severely flawed.
@@RitaTheCuteFox it’s like it was displayed at the start with all the different symbols for the different autistic people. it’s such a widely unique disability to the point that me and you may not have problems but someone else (guy in video and people about you in this thread) may have context clue problems.
@@RitaTheCuteFox it’s fascinating how autism differs from person to person
@@RitaTheCuteFox Because when they first hear it, some neurodivergents may connect the words to their respective definitions and draw conclusions from that, while neurotypicals might just hear the sounds and connect it to what they were told non-verbally without really connecting the sentence to its words.
This is why a lot of neurotypicals express surprise when someone takes an idiom literally. They simply did not understand the correlation between the meaning of the sentence and the words within.
When it comes to the phrase "take a seat". It uses "take" as in "occupy", even though the word "take" is more often used to mean something closer to "grab", "seize" or "remove". It seems logical to assume the more usual definitions of a word, that also has fewer common synonyms, than the less used definition of a word that can easily be changed into something like "occupy", "use", or just "sit on".
If they do mean "sit on a seat" why wouldn't they just say "sit on a seat" to eliminate the ambiguity?
Usually, it's because saying stuff like "take a seat" sounds more normal to them and in their mind often has nothing to do with the words "take" or even "seat". It's just a phrase that means "sit". Like how a dog doesn't really know what the word "sit" means, but they still learn that their feeder likes it when they sit after hearing the sound.
The origin of most idioms of course are basically just slang, where its meaning becomes dissociated with its literal meaning after lots of people use it without understanding it due to not wanting to seem like they don't get it.
So if you wonder why some people don't understand idioms, ask yourself how much slang you actually understand, and how much of it you still use.
Basically, taking a phrase literally can show a dynamic understanding of the language that can help better comprehend new sentences, while just deciding to learn what the phrase means on its own without care for what each individual word means can show a preference to learn language on a case-by-case basis that usually takes a lot longer to learn.
So while yes, this dynamic understanding of a language can create misinterpretations of idioms or specific phrases where the meaning is ambiguous at first, and it takes longer to break out of these set and understood rules of the language to learn a specific phrase, but in general, this understanding of language is often more useful and can lead to much more creative use of the language in the long run.
_Oh, and of course I should probably mention that this is far from exclusive to neurodivergence nor is it excluded from neurotypicality._
Though it might be more noticeable for neurodivergents, perhaps.
Just because you don’t feel comfortable in social situations doesn’t mean you don’t want to interact. That’s probably the hardest part of being autistic, wanting to fit in but not being able to
Luckily, I was able to.
Me tooo but I still have social anxiety I what to talk to people but a big part of me says no don’t talk
it's actually not that uncommon in girls its just under-diagnosed
YES... but grammar though?
...
no its not how the fuck would you know that? the fact you ALWAYS have to bring up womens "problems" is sexist if anything. If women are underrepresentated ANYWHERE its muh sexism, even on disabilitys.. lmao. go cry
@@RitaTheCuteFox … fragile ego much?
@@RitaTheCuteFox u know u could just do some research and realise why it is but in a nutshell. lots of autism research comes from a nazi scientist who only experimented on boys and thought girls couldn't have it, this gender bias continued throughout research and we are only now seeing girls being represented in research. girls experience autism differently and therefore their symptoms may not appear to be the same as their male counterparts, this also being that because we are socialised differently at young ages (boys and girls) then that also contributes. because the diagnostic criteria is based on the male symptoms this means that women are underdiagnosed as the criteria does not take into account how women present differently. its important to educate yourself before attacking others
@@destiny2004 you said it yourself.. women have completely different "symptoms".. therefore they don't have autism. They don't have the "REAL" male autism, because girls with autism, not to mention girls in general, are treated different than guys with autism so no they are not underdiagnosed, most of them simply are not affected by their "autism" and therefore its pointless to diagnose them with autism. For males, autism is actually a problem while for females, autism is either an advantage, because males like them even more, or they have no disadvantage because it would just be yet another thing where societys can be like "oh this girl has some mental problem, here have all our support and attention" while when a male has autism he is simply called autist as an insult or nobody takes it serious. Really don't see what we as society or a girl would gain from being given the autism diagnosis when they basically have no symptoms because their natural socialness cancels their autism out.

I have high functioning autism and I can say that it is VERY hard having it, I always feel like there is something wrong with me, I always have a hard time looking for basic words when I talking to someone, I always get social anxiety when I'm around non family members (all though I am doing much better with it), I always need to constantly fidget with something, smell what ever I see, feel whatever I see, like when I'm at a store (which I noticed I've been doing much better at), it's hard to control my inside voice and usually when I am loud I don't even notice until I get in trouble, I tend to talk myself out loud and have casual conversations with myself, I tend to make weird noises for no reason (which I'm getting worse at), I usually take phrases and jokes seriously (like I can never understand the phrase "think outside the box"), And I usually do have complications with making friends because they would not understand my struggles and think I'm weird or something which is why I tend to make friends with people who have Autism or ADHD (which I have ADHD as well)
Same i have autism and when I did research on autism and ADHD they do have the same symptoms but they are different in some ways autism affects social skills language and behaviour and ADHD impacts on how the brain grows and develops and you can have both

This video was very informative. I’ve always thought I was a bit autistic as I just never seemed to fit in with other kids when I was little. I was always on my own, struggle in social situations and often don’t really see how my words, body language or actions can affect people, I feel sometimes like a kid in an adults body and it sucks. I have half of the signs, i think it's because of anxiety, like avoiding eye contact. I have an eye problem and that's why I hate to look at people
I'm 15 and I'm autistic, in elementary school I was bullied for not liking the things all the other kids liked. When I grew older though I realized if I like it than it doesn't matter what they care. I also have self taught myself alot of things I'm good at to this day. People with autism, if you feel that people think what you like is wrong, don't listen to them. Autism isn't a disability, it's just a different ability. Keep going!
As somebody with aspergers, I find the subjects of this video are quite true and I feel like a lot of the things discussed. My autism has affected me a lot and has helped quite a lot in school because I just didn't struggle as much, however my social life is a bit lacking. I am relatively happy that I have aspergers because it has helped me empathise with others with similar dissablilties and has helped greatly with education.
You should not be held back by any means. If you want to be more social you have to work harder for it. You can accept what you have or work harder to achieve what you want. Of course the goal must be realistic. Try it with very small steps at a time.

What’s odd is the similarities between adhd and autism. Diagnosed with adhd I think it is why I can never feel comfortable in a social environment. I have impulsivity issues so I can come off as blunt. I pace and can’t keep still constantly. I can play the drums because I need something to fidget with. Background noise can sometimes feel like a movie scene where life is whizzing past you.

@Dr Yuching Lee Dr. where in the fuck did you get your degree from? there is no such thing as "reversing autism" lmao. you can't change who a person is with snake oil and "herbal supplements" get the fuck out of here.
1.
I can't focus on something if my environment is noisy, often I leave quietly at a social gathering to focus in my mind thinking of something & I really hate noises.
2. My friends often weirded out by what I'm saying cause they don't understand. When I explained it out, by then they understand what I'm saying & understand them. My brain just absorbed information quickly & think about how to joke about it, conclusion in it, seperate the positivity/negativity on certain topic, the downside/advantages of it, what happened next or the effect of it & how to handle it in under 2 seconds.
3. When I'm obsessed with something I wanna know it all & want to get as much information about it as soon as I can. But the problem is there is very little thing that can amuse me or make me obsessive. Was lazy-ass student & skipping school but always on top 5 student when it comes to exam with 0 motivation on anything or even study at all. It's always challenging for me to enter society I often seek myself out for alone time. People see you weird because they don't understand you. That's natural & I don't give a f.
people use this video to understand other people. but i use this to help me understand myself

As an autistic person, I really disagree with some of the information in this. ASD is autistic spectrum disorder, not disfunction - why would any autistic person in the right mind want to call themselves dysfunctional? Yes, some things can be more challenging for us but we excel in other areas too.
A lot of the traits shown are good though but these experiences will vary between individuals.
I’m an autistic filmmaker myself and recently interviewed an Autism advocate. Would love if you could check it out! czcams.com/video/0kRxgaW29ho/video.html
Like he said in the beginning, his experience is different from others.
Although I agree that dysfunction is rude.
We already have to deal with enough problems as is, we don’t need to be called dysfunctional on top of all that
Interesting as my son has autism .This video helps me a lot to understand him more.
This video is definitely worthy of a like.
I’m a girl and I have PDD (atypical autism) and honestly I’m 16 and am now just wanting to learn about it because I’ve always known but I never really understood how I was different because I was always told I “didn’t look autistic” but then my mum has started to explain some things that I do that other people wouldn’t (she said it because of my autism) but I never knew that these weren’t “normal” things to do.

And How?
Needs to get reported.
I was diagnosed with higher functioning autism recently. I'm 18 and went most of my life without knowing. It's nice to understand really what goes on.
I made a shortfilm about autism, since i’m autistic myself and have a strong dislike for the representation in film. I hope you like it! czcams.com/video/dr4bX8qmed0/video.html
The part about using a push/pull door got me. So it's actually my autism that does that... Nice to be able to relate :D
Excellent video, thank you. If I was a researcher, I would dive headfirst into that third type of autism. Something tells me that it may be much more common and important than many people realize.
My son have been using this herbal product for 1month now, so far it has cured his ASD and eliminate his misbehavior as well, now he is verbal, I got this herbs from Dr Oyalo on his channel and it work perfectly.
I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was about 8 years old, I'll be 13 this august.
When I was younger than I am now, I had many troubles.
I wouldn't shower because the water hit my body too hard and it wasn't very suithing.
I'd get scratched on my back with a special brush to calm down.
I was very bad at being social and would feel very unsettled in public places.
I am now 12 and I have evolved quite a lot, I am able to do way more than when I was younger.
I've been helped through the years and it's obviously done something. I can socialize normally, I have friends, I can read people's emotions, etc. And it's all because I wasn't alone in this, it's because I got help through all of it. Thank you for explaining this to people who wanted to know, it's great to spread awareness
and its all thanks to your family and friends.

One the repetitive motion for anyone wanting an example from a girl, who’s on the spectrum:
For me, I often have perform leg bouncing (aka nervous knee) at a form of stemming. I do when I’m in class, writing an essay, sitting in during a meeting, etc, it’s as the video says a way to relieve any anxiety or stress I have. I also (but rarely) tap my finger tips on a surface, when my nervous knee isn’t available.

How should I handle issues with a Speech therapy company?
Basically they dropped my sons therapy services because of misunderstanding over text message. My son has severe autism and he is non verbal, so speech therapy is very important to us. So we got a new therapist which was already hard for my son but on-top of that routine is important with him and as we got a new therapist, everything transferred over to teletherapy. So I asked the therapist what should I buy for the sessions she told me she’s been trying out this method called sabotage, where she takes a ziplock bag and removes the zipper so the child has to request the toy in the bag. As soon as I heard this I got uncomfortable, but I figured I’d better research it first. After doing some research and talking to his OT therapist , I decided that specific task wasn’t in his best interest at the moment because were also working on independence. So I messaged the therapist and told her that while I respected the tactic I didn’t think it was the best choice for him right now and explained why. I told her I also felt like it was a little to harsh for him right now. And she responded with simply “Do you understand the exercise?” I told her that I did but after gathering research and speaking with other therapist I just didn’t feel like it was a good idea and asked if we could try another activity to get to the same goal. She responded that I must not understand it and offered to send me links. At this point I was annoyed and I texted her very short like I can understand what you’re talking about. I just don’t want it done. If it’s this much of an issue we can switch therapist then I blocked her number. When her office TEXTED me, which they text for everything, they sent out the regular scheduled message for the next therapy session I said I wanted to take a quick stress break, and if it was possible to skip it they said great and everything was fine. So later I find out they spoke with my mom (she helps with paperwork) and said that I disrespected the therapist and I approached her incorrectly so, in an effort to avoid any more issues I had my husband who has been doing the tele-therapy all this time, speak with her during the session explaining how I felt she was very rude on text and I didn’t want to cause an issue or make my son lose therapy over a misunderstanding, the therapist started crying and apologizing saying that she absolutely didn’t mean to insult us and there are many other ways to go about getting him to use request words. The session went on normally then in the next coming days the owner of the company called and said she’s dropping my son from therapy. We were shocked. She said we should have called instead of handling the issue on text. I asked her why if they felt that way didn’t the therapist immediately cal me or stop responding she said she didn’t know but there’s nothing she can do for me. I immediately snapped because I didn’t understand and I explained to her how the hell will I find him another therapy during this virus, she said it’s not her job to worry about that it’s the parents and all she could do is fax the discharge paperwork. I gave up and asked if they wrote about this incident on their paperwork she, the owner, said she didn’t know what was there how was she supposed to know. So I explained I didn’t want this stupidity to now harm my son from getting another therapy service. She literally spent the entire phone call laughing while I was crying panicking for my son. So now my son is screwed out of therapy because of her and whatever nonsense lies her therapist was telling her. I have some screenshots but I mainly kept my part of the conversations that are now deleted just Incase I had to defend myself. And also, after the phone call with my husband she said he attacked her on the phone and she was not okay after and she was just being professional but we have the phone call recorded and that absolutely wasn’t the case. Is there anything I can do? I’m at a lost for words here. I am having such a hard time living in the south for the first time and trying to figure out services and stuff like that as is. Can I report them? Sue them? Anything. Please if anyone read this far I am really desperate for help in this situation.
They don't want to deal with you. Get another place. They are not comfortable with you. If you were complaining about them, about their methods, then why you still want to use their services. If you have money to pay an attorney, you might lose the free health benefits used for your child, if it's the case. In another word, if you have money for attorney, you have money to pay for health benefits to treat autism. Another thing; even if you win the lawsuit, remember; half goes to the attorney, only the fees, imagine the courts surprising expenses, the another 35% or more goes to tax. Try another place first and then you get your conclusions and new options. Think about it. Your attitude on the phone with them made them uncomfortable and concerned making them to give up on you. You encouraged them.
Thanks for this. Raising awareness and understanding is great.
It took me until I was 51 to be diagnosed. It was the first time I had ever seen a psychologist and as I was a good student it was never picked up at school. I learned to mask well throughout my life. On my 4th session the psychologist suggested I get tested and said that most people would not recognise it in me as I almost constantly mask it, but as it was a special interest of hers and she worked with many late diagnosed women that she could recognise it. I saw a clinical psychologist that specialises in women and girls and she diagnosed me with ASD1 (used now in the DSM5 instead of Aspergers, ADHD & SPD (sensory processing disorder, GAD and depression. My GP still does not see it and a psychiatrist I went to after talking to me for 50 mins said I couldn’t be autistic as I looked at him and that it was genetically impossible for an autistic person to do so. I have had a second opinion and the Psychiatrist thinks it’s Complex Trauma. He also had a 50 min conversation with me. He said I was too articulate, warm, intelligent to be autistic. The psychologists I have now seen (3 in total) have all said my clinical psychologist is very well respected in her field of expertise and was trained in practice with Tony Attwood (who is world renowned expert) so they see no need to question her diagnosis. My life has never made so much sense since my diagnosis and all I have learnt about myself since then via fb groups (other autistics) and books. I wish I had known it earlier. My life would be so different and I would have been able to access help growing up. I understand (even in 2020) how the testing is geared more towards “typical” males and so a lot is often missed without the skills/knowledge to properly diagnose girls/women. My experiences even with a formal diagnosis are still difficult with the medical profession due to my ability to mask so well as a means of coping, which comes at great cost to my mental health. The fact that I am also hyper sensitive and hyper empathic also confuses others, but due to past trauma I had to learn to read others for my own well-being.
Every individual is unique, and as an autistic person with gifts and challenges that I only recently am beginning to understand about myself that are part of the way my particular brain functions, I hope we all learn to accept people as they are and develop more compassion for the differences we all have to live with. Everyone is fighting a battle we may or may not see. Kindness for self and others is key to truly seeing others and fostering healthy connections in humanity.

I'm 18 and female, feel like there might be a chance I have Asperger's (successful in school, bad at social interactions). I have a hard time self-censoring myself or reading people's body language, in addition to being somewhat clumsy. But I actually enjoy spending time with people, even ones I do not know very well, and love being put in new situations.
However, it doesn't feel like I end up with many disadvantages, and these symptoms could be something a normal person could experience. I don't want to get tested for fear of being misdiagnosed, or ending up identifying myself purely by this possible "disorder".
Can I ask you for help? What should I do? The idea of being autistic has stayed in the back of my mind since I found out about it and bothered me somewhat, but I am self-sufficient enough to be able to live life even without the knowledge.
I'm in a bit of a similar situation. I'm self-diagnosed since it's quite obvious it's the case with me. I never considered it a disorder, only issue I've ever had was coming directly from the way our society works, and I don't believe something can be called a disorder, if when left to it's own devices it's not detrimental in the slightest.
But I would say the biggest tell is with senses: have you ever had issues with sensory processing? Perceived noises, light, smells, ect differently?
First and foremost, look into autism in girls. It frequently shows quite differently to cases in boys. Some channels I'd recommend are yo samdy Sam and Asperger's from the inside
But again, put your time into researching autism in girls.
Wish you luck on your journey, feel free to ask questions :))
What I do about it is not see my autism as a disorder, but I see it as something that makes me unique in how I experience the world around me

I seem to have Aspergers, but that's yet to be tested. As for the stims, I sometimes swirl in one place or tap out a beat anywhere. When I'm mad, I tend to flap my hands or, in worse cases, get physical or scream and threaten the person (workin' on it).
I do have difficulty understanding people and I especially despise puns, since they are made to distract and offend normal people (my point on the matter, it was learnt, but in general I do not do puns). I may not understand an answer to "how" if it's not an accurate instruction. Sometimes I don't understand why other people feel the way they do, but through talking to myself I analyze things and make amends with offended people (if I understand I was wrong).
I am hyperacoustic. I don't like the sound of sneezing if it's loud and uncovered. I also love the number 20 and use it to make important decisions. I made myself a schedule and get quite mad if something distracts me from it.
As for special preferences, all that was said in this video is true. I'll just name mine at the moment: music (especially singing), languages, animals, cartoons and dancing.

In our apartment complex there was this kid who was rumored to be excellent in math and physics and he would go on international math and physics competitions but he couldn’t find his home from school and vice versa. His mother always took him to school and assisted him everwhere he went. Everyone thought he was mentally ill but couldn’t settle there because he was extremely smart. He went to the US later and now he works at Apple as an engineer in the iMessage department

Boys are not at higher risk then girls, girls are under diagnosed, the diagnostics are based on boys, girls mask, I have masking autism and am 30, I only just found out I’m autistic, I spent my life in and out of hospitals, being misdiagnosed and medicated, being punished for meltdowns.
They are starting to change the way they diagnose, I hope they change it fast so no other human goes through what I did.

I have to disagree with your assessment of "low functioning" or "severe" autism. There is no more tendency to have low IQ, but rather, a much greater difficulty in assessing IQ due to movement differences, sensory differences, and anxiety.

@Super West123 stop spreading rubbish
@Super West123 there is no "curing" autism. It literally comes from the brain and neurons being actually different to neurotypical people. You literally cannot, and frankly, should not "cure" autism. We are normal people. Excluding people for whom it shows in extremelly radical ways, practically all of our problems come from lack of any willingness to understand our clear statements, and things that bother even neurotypical people to some degree. I'm sorry to say this, but your mindset is quite harmful.
Autism is not "fixable".
Autism does not *need* to be "fixed".
What needs to be fixed is the world's behaviours, which are in the end harmful to actually everyone and everything, not only people on autism spectrum.
Autism isn't a disorder.
Not by itself.
@The Fabulous Eagle It is physically impossible to cure autism!! You are born with it, straight to the point! You can manage the symptoms of autism, but cannot completely cure it. And besides, some find that statement offensive. Some autistic people are fine with the way they are.
My TWIN brother has autism, he throws tantrums a lot, and for some reason me (his twin sister) is the only one who can calm him down. But he can do awesome stuff to, like make noises that no one else can! And even play cards!
