His Hair Must Go!

- Uriah hates getting his hair done, and I don't blame the kid. Maintaining locs is a process that requires patience, consistency, and sometimes pain, all of which this seven year old does not by any means enjoy. When it came time this month for Riah to get his hair done, I knew it was the beginning of the end. Yvette, on the other hand, may have been projecting a fear of change and we ended up in a disagreement about whether or not allowing Riah to cut his hair was enabling him. So which one of us gets the hard pill to swallow? Watch and find out...#BELEAFINFATHERHOOD

Yvette is funny for her disclaimer. She is beautiful in all ways.
Yes indeed!!
SO BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE!!! Every time I watch her, I think “man, I’d love to be best friends with her” 🥺❤️
Agreed! Twinning with Niyah
So soooo beautiful! 🙌♥️
She looked soooo perfect natural xxx
Poor Yvette! Her babies are just growing up and changing right before her eyes. It certainly doesn’t help that Uncle Baby been 35! 😩🤣🤣
😭🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤦🏾😜😂😂😂that child is 'ol...not even old
Uncle baby was born 35, he atleast 42 now 🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
"That sandwich hard as hell aint it," had me dying yo.
There is something really cool about being let in to be a fly on the wall during a discussion like this, it isn't edited only for the 'good' parts and shows two parents having a back and forth. I like it, thank you for letting people in :)
Helena Grey, I so agree with you. The video was so naturally organic, and we were given the privilege to observe this exchange. It was fun and wholesome. SHALOM
I third this! Its actually refreshing to see how a debate of theirs plays out. They're both incredible parents & I hope my future family is comparable to theirs.
I felt that sandwich cut the roof of MY mouth lol
🤣
Lollll
And almost broke the plate when it fell in it.
We need to give children more credit than we do. They can make decisions about how they look. And if they regret it, well, that’s the natural consequence. That’s an important lesson.
Facts as parents need to understand
So true!
They have so little control because they are little. We must give choices so they can become RESPONSE ABLE. (responsible)
When our boyz were young my co workers gave me so much shizzzz about letting my boys wear curls, tall boxes, initials .... whatever.... but they sat in church n said yes ma'am n no sir....did chores n homework and hopped in bed laughing at bed time. If we had to sit with an old person they helped out. And now in their forties they are known as cool happy helpful dudes. I let them choose whenever possible as it easier to accept rules and schedules that are unbendable when u teach it that way.
So true! My sweet little nephew (Black and Indian), had the most glorious curls that formed a voluminous afro everyone in the family adored. We couldn't imagine his hair any other way. Then, one day he announced he wanted to cut ✂️ his hair short "like Daddy's hair." When my mother saw him without those beautiful curls she damn near had a coronary. My nephew felt good and has remained with his short hair for years now. Some family members ask if he'll ever let his curly hair grow high again. He is content with it short. Sometimes, the emotional attachment to hair is the adults' problem.
It depends
This was a great example of healthy disagreements in a relationship. I love how raw and honest you guys are. Thank you.
Idk her husband saying that her insecurities/problems are seeping out infront of the kids isn't really great. Especially when both were trying really hard to make their kid favor themselves... Kids will usually seek the validation of fathers even if it means undermining moms, this is especially common in nuclear families.
Kids can hold on to hearing their father telling their mother that she's reactions are due to insecurities/personal problems/trauma and weaponize it against their mom in the future when they're older.
This whole situation was akward and I felt the kid's discomfort with being stuck trying to please both mom and dad ....
@@likeolikeh5807 you may have some points in this short story but omg
Not Glen poppin’ his head out the shower to say “I told you so!”
I am SCREAMING 😂😂😂😂
“Your issues are leaking” LOL

Leaking ALL OVER the child!🤣🤣🤣for real tho'
Y'all remember when Theo cut his hair and Riah was like, "I'm never cutting my hair!" Fast forward to now and he's like, "Cut it. Cut it. Cut it."
🎶That part'ns way to hard you need to cut it🎶 🤣🤣
@@thecrystallockett 😭😭🤣🤣
His scalp hurts way too bad you need to cut it. Lol
@@thecrystallockett aye 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

The whole family is gorgeous, the skin is poppin', the hair is full, kinky, and thick, and the teeth are white and beautiful. Chocolate on Chocolate love. #goodgenes Jealous !😊
It's so interesting seeing Glen ready to let go of Uriah's hair in comparison to Theo.
Also very funny because Yvette initially didn't care for the locs
Lmbo Yvette tryna convince the baby he dont wanna cut his hair. “Thats not you” 🤣
Glen doing deliverance 🤣
It was the deliverance session for me lol
It’s the speaking in tongues for me😭😭
Yup the speaking in tongues, deliverance had me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
First of all, I just wanna say, Yvette you are very beautiful! Whether you're dressed or just lounging at home. Beleaf, it was very nice of you to honor her wishes and show pictures that she asked you too. Secondly, you guys are awesome. I love the dialogue between Yvette and Beleaf, so cute. Black love at its finest 🖤
I couldn't agree more 😇🥰 she's so beautiful.
Yes😌
That’s the same thing I am saying she look good.
Yes she is naturally gorgeous.
She doesn't even have to try, some people are blessed with natural beauty.
Yvette you have no idea how much freedom you've given so many women including me about showing up in all our glory. I remember how years ago I would see you on CZcams in your bonnet and house robe and just doing the stuff we normally do at home. It was so affirming to the beauty we carry always. So thanks for letting this video come out.
This is more entertaining than watching anything on a streaming service. I am on the edge with the plot conflict and the characters. You guys are awesome
Love watching you guys! Great couple and great parenting. Sending lots of love from Brazil!
This episode is tooo funny 😂😂😂 Yvette comparing this to child birth, Glenn getting his point across in the shower, Anaya’s face looking at Riah 🤣🤣
Yessss!!! As a mom of 4 offspring I was NOT offended!😂🤣😅😆😅🤣🤣😂😛😛😛
😂 when all is lost, remind them of the labor pains.
This episode was absolutely amazing🙏🏾
"You have the right to be offended Sis...Queen." "Why do you have your phone in the shower?" Ya'll crack me up.
"You're wrong and you know it"
"Yvette has issues"
"When do I get my monologue?"🤣🤣🤣
I like how you two freely express your 'debative' views w/out anyone's fuse coming off. And when you were explaining the 'we-got-issues' and Yvette came over to ask for her monologue, I said, yeah, they're friends, true friends.
Straight goals. I’m trying to get on this level of communication.
I know im being greedy, but can we get longer videos. I've been binge watching and I just adore your family! Thanks for letting us into your lives.
CZcams video average retention is about 5 minutes, so we try to make our videos around 10 but people don’t watch that long so we put our Longer videos are on patreon.com/bif
@@BeleafInFatherhood so best u can do is 14Mins!???
Riah definitely deserves more spotlight! Kid is effortlessly funny
You can say that again. He is awesome.
Although I love them all, he’s my favourite of the bunch 😍🥰
Baby Riah and baby Theo were an epic duo. The perfect pair of cuteness and comedy.
I love Yvette and, yes, you need to teach your children how to overcome challenges, but you also need to acknowledge when something doesn't work for you anymore. It's difficult, but one needs to learn how to let go and that always trying to please others can hold one back.
Yvette is protective and that is a huge part of her role and both parents ensure that
their children's internal sense of safety remains intact.
It was the "you have a right to be offended Sis --- Queen" for me!!! 😂😂😂
I love Riah but that "3 minutes into the parting process" had me rolling😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 poor chocolate baby!
I'm in love with this family! I've never had a family, I didn't have parents or siblings... but if I did, this is the family I would of wanted!
This is more about the mother being afraid of her baby boy growing up. If he cuts his hair it's a sign of him changing. She wants him to be that baby boy for as long as possible.
1) Yvette is naturally BEAUTIFUL 🖤👑
2) Let Riah make his own decisions
3) Save the locs. It can get attached back if he changes his mind and want them again.
4) I love this family.
5) Can't wait to see Riahs haircut I'm sure it brings out his beautiful features!
How can you attach locs back? Like just tie it on the end and it grows together? Genuinely curious if you don’t mind thanks🙏
@@rosalindsnyder3554 They use a special tool to put the loc back together with the natural hair. This link I posted is of my favorite loctician and her method for reattaching locs. czcams.com/video/ouJ0UDY5w2E/video.html
Everything you said 💯
There are so many people that reattach locs!
I never cut off mine. I combed them out one by one using aloe vera and a tail comb. I'm thinking of getting my second set one of these days.
When Theo said "Who cares what mom thinks " I bawled out. Look bacchanal! 😜
🇹🇹?... Because that's all I heard when you said look bacchanal!!
🇹🇹🇹🇹
Bacchanal indeed!
Trini to d bone 🇹🇹 …boom!
😁 Same here! Look bacchanal! 🇹🇹
I understand both sides. But, in the end, you have to teach your children not to be overly anxious about making a decision AND to learn to deal with the decision. He is young and his hair will grow back - if he wants it.
I remember what my mom told me when I was scared to cut my hair shorter than I’ve ever had it…….. she said “regardless of what you do to your hair you are still a beautiful girl”. I’ll never forget that. 💜
It’s called starting over✨ his hair will grow back.
I’m a girl and I cut my hair for the 1st time back in 2017 and now 2 inches is too long, can’t manage it🤣🤣🤣
I cut my yesterday, I’m practically bald 🤣🤣🤣a shampoo bottle will last me 1 year
Glenn was for Theo cutting his hair to an extent. He really really didn't want him to, and tried to talk him through (out of) it, but he came to accept that Theo was at that stage where he was allowed to decide what happened to his hair. He made peace with it then, so it's a lot easier for him to support Riah with ease.
true
Yeeeeesssss, I was watching him not mentioning that about Theo’s hair and I was like but Glenn didn’t 💯 want to cut his hair to a point.
Thats What I was saying to myself too, Glenn was not for Theos cut, but only the Day 1's know that lol
Paving the way for what family channels should be like- I wish more family channels were like this. A loving husband and wife who show us an appropriate amount of their lives and their children’s lives. All while teaching us something new in every video about parenting and a healthy family. I can’t speak for other people but for me personally it’s nice to see a caring family environment that I’ve never had in my own life.
I never laughed so hard on a Tuesday morning. 🤣🤣🤣 Yvette saying “why do you have your phone out in the shower”, had me cryin’. Lol
Firstly: Yvette is BEYOND beautiful (plus how we look at home doesn’t count in real life)
Secondly: Anaya’s face at the end of the video when she was looking at Riah getting his hair cut took me out
I like that! “How we look at home doesn’t count in real life” hahaha
Yes!!! Anaya is my favorite baby...of course she is funny...she is a whole mood..lol
No offense to Yvette, but we already went through this argument with Theo😭If Riah wants to cut his hair then it’s gonna happen.
👏
Yes! As Glen said - he is more than his hair. It’s not a permanent change. It will grow back.
But does he? Does it matter?
I think Yvette is right....she is trying not to support the enabling...the baby really wants his hair..not the work. In life we have to do the work to get the end results! Lol.. I know I am outnumbered....lol
@@shariffbrown04 Agree!
You guys are my favorite family to watch. It really shows the closeness and the nurturing you give your babies, and you show a positive masculine father/husband role 247. Keep it going 👏🏼
It's funny how before you gave the disclosure on behalf of Yvette I was looking at her and thinking how naturally beautiful she is. Love your show. As a mother of 6 majority who are grown now. I can relate to so much of your experiences as a young growing family. At the end of the day it's ALL Love 💚
Ok Riah if u can have your hair any kind of way you’d want it
Riah: cut 😁
Mom: 😐
😂
I fell out of my chair at that moment.. 😂😂😆
Lmfao “that is not you . That’s not who you are “ lol so cute I can’t
Yes I believe when boys want to sever ties with their hair it should be their decision. Let them live with the outcome of it and the learning experience from it. It grows back
I think you meant when boys, girls, and any child for that matter want to sever ties with their hair it should be their decision...and all the fantastic other things you shared after that💕💕 ☮️&🤎 #protectblackgirls
@@alovehaircare Thank you for this! My daughter is 20 and has been natural since she was 10. She is very tender headed and has always dreaded wash day and getting her hair combed out and re-twisted. At 19, she decided she wanted to cut all her hair off because of the management process. As much as I wanted to talk her out of it, I had to stop myself and see things from her perspective. We talked through it and she arrived at the decision to get all of the back shaved, which made managing the rest of it much more doable for her!
Absolutely! My 7 yr old son has more hair than his twin sister. He doesn't want his long naturally curly hair cut and that's fine with us. The day he changes his mind..I'll cry but I'll oblige him. He is more than his hair.💙
Agreed! Kids have their own sense of self for themselves. Hair always grows back.
Riah wants his hair cut but mom wants to convince him he doesn't. She's is teaching him not to trust his own feelings or his own voice. Dad and Theo are the best hypemen!!
I agree with you. When I first heard them say something about enabling him, I was like, "yes! Enable him to make his own choices!! Yes!" And then realized they meant the opposite. It's important he go through with what he asked for in order to learn to accept his decisions, whether they end up good or not. It's how he learns discernment and to trust his own instincts.
Hmm.. I actually perceived it differently.
I think in this instance neither communicated well and didn't express their view to each other efficiently.
I think she saw that he was only wanting to be like his brother and that he really did not want his hair cut.
The dad saw it this way as well but his approach was "it will grow back" he saw that there was the possibility that his child would not like the way he looked with cut hair but having to live with the consequences was a lesson as well.
They should have continued talking privately so either side would not risk him echoing their desires rather than his own. He did in fact begin to echo his dad, until faced with the finality of what his own decision meant.
Riah is a minimalist! That's awesome!
I'm with Dad on this one. His hair will grow back and it will be a lesson for him if he doesn't like him. If he wants he can grow it back. I enjoy watching this family.
Mama was trying her best to keep that hair. All will be ok, he will grow from this experience. Good Change means growth.
Beleaf had his “WHAT WAS THE REASON” moment when he filmed in the shower!!! 😹😹😹
I love that you both give him the option to choose his hairstyle. Y’all are so authentic and I love it so much❤
watching you cut your sons hair is one of the reasons i'm becoming a barber
Man that's wild!! 😢
I lovvveeee Riah’s hair!!! It matches his personality too! Ugh. Don’t fade him all the way down 😭😭😭 leave him some curls!
Yes
Mama knows cut my sons hair bc it was a pain and he said too. He cried for a month. 10 years later. Hair not going no where, he says🙂
Yeeeesss! My friend and her husband skin their boys' heads. Lol. I'm always like let them wear their curls 😂
At Uriah's age I had no opinion about how to do my hair. When my parents wanted it cut, it was cut.
It seems You Guys are finding your Happy Place again, I really enjoyed all the smiles and laughs in this video. I was smiling along the whole time. And that stylist is good, she even considers her clients personality in the style
This is so funny... we need to let our kids choose. & let them learn from regrets while they're young. 🤣😂🤣🥰 so relatable
I agree riah needs a curly fro too! Maybe with the sides shaved! I agree he's needs a cool funky look. Theo is more serious and that's why the traditional cut works so well for him! Also remember even if he regrets cutting his hair, it's great way to teach regret because it grows back. 🥰 Love to the family!
Beleaf tryna “cast out” Yvette’s “issues”!!🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely live this family. You guys are so authentic and heart warming. A true definition of a family.

BTW, I'm so happy yall are getting these sponsorships. Love it!! ❤
I love how Theo says “ who cares what mom thinks just do it “ lmaooo yessss yolo do it while you can lol
Both of yall was trying to teach him the same lesson in different ways. Making decisions impulsively bring permanent change to avoid temporary inconvenience.
Yvette didn't want him to cut his hair because she knows he won't like his decision.
Glen wants him to make his own decisions because good or bad he needs to accept the consequences of those decisions.
This!!
💯🎯
Riah did not make an impulsive decision. He's already been asking for a cut for more than a week! Honestly the dreads were unkempt and don't reflect him so it's good that he's decided to let them go.
@@Gwaycee
You're more than welcome to your opinion. To me a week is not a ton of time and I'd say it's impulsive.
You can tell by his uncertainty. He was more concerned about the process of getting his hair done, which he doesn't like, than his actual hair style. Yvette was saying he likes his hair he just hates the process.
But again regardless he'll have to deal with the consequences whether he loves it or not. I'm hoping he loves it. 🙂
@@FG-ej1xd I feel like a week is a looong time to a child. He looked certain that he wanted it cut until his mother tried to force him not to. But thankfully his wishes were finally respected. Many comments are talking about 'consequences' as if he's about to get a disease or sth. There are no consequences for Riah having his unkempt hair shaved off. He's a fine young man who was just going along with his parents' wishes for his hair but now has come of age to be able to express his own opinions about himself. Good thing his father heard him out. Anyway, it's done shaved off now, thank goodness.
I was hanging on every word of this one. Watching a family go there, like be raw and real with each other and be CIVIL& LAUGH even!! So engaging. So beautiful🖤

So beautiful in her natural state ♥️ thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us.
When they fast forward to Riah getting his hair part and him pouting/complaining I laughed so hard 😂😂😂
Now we see where little mama get her debate skills from…. Mom wasn’t having it. And no disclaimer needed, as a hands on mom, wife, entrepreneur your beauty runs deep full glam or lounging around the house. You are beautiful queen!
Accurate. Her beauty runs deep.
You can also cut the matting instead of ripping them apart. As a former loc head and current tender head, DAT ISH Hurts!
Man! As a Current loc head, you really have to stay on top of the new growth! On the other hand, too much twisting isn’t good. I suggest using a wide tooth, long handle comb on the new growth between washes & retwists. This will allow the scalp to breath as well. It just takes more care to stay loced & look manicured. If that is the look you are after. Some dred heads are freeform and Never twist! Wash & go! It is, as with having locs, a personal choice. I do think that Riah is not mature enough to both make the decision to cut & make the decision to loc. Not sure how it all started. Even with Theo. Locing is a spiritual, cultural, identity driven decision. People who loc as a trend rarely stay loced. IJS
@@cherylmayes4401 Agree on all counts.
I was hoping someone would post this because locs are high maintenance to an extent esp for a child under 13

Like most mothers, she projects her issues onto her son. The boy states clearly several times he wants to cut his hair. She keeps telling him what he doesn't want. She says it's not who he is. She tries to force her perception of him to become his identity.
Agreed! My father does that to my baby brother (who is now 14). He has little to no say so, in how HE looks! I'm not a huge fan of this behavior, it's very controlling. (Not saying the mother is!
