A rare story where Zeus isn't being a dick...
true there.
but, i guess we can thank's to him for Halloween costume idea.
he does werewolf even before a think today.
I am from greece and I say nice vid
Or screwing some random woman lol
Yeah one of the few rare incidents the gods are not being pricks on the mortals.
Mythology & Fiction Explained how dare You insult ZEUS
soo.... Zeus showed how mad he was at Lycaon for sacrificing his son, by killing Lycaon's other sons? lol wat
Indeed in some version he turned Lycaon and the rest of his sons into wolves essentially creating a wolf pack but either way I guess sins of the father was the case lol.
actually the sons were almost as bad as the father
Gods are weird
IIRC Zeus wasn't angry that Lycaon sacrificed his son. He was angry that Lycaon didn't believe he was Zeus despite all the signs, and instead had the gall to test a god. The fact that the test was a human sacrifice was just the cherry on top of it.
You're such an underrated channel I've always been interested in Greek and Egyptian mythology but your videos have literally made me fall in love
I was taught a different rendition of the werewolf legend. It involves King Tantalus, and a young goddess named Lyca. It goes like this: King Tantalus was one of the few mortals who enjoyed the privilege of dining with the gods. He abused this privilege one night, by killing his own son and offering him up for dinner. Zeus punished Tantalus by condemning him to enteral hunger in a grove of exquisite fruits he could never pick, and eternal thirst in a pure spring he could never drink. Meanwhile, he forbade the other gods not to eat the human meal. But a young goddess named Lyca was unable to resist her curiosity, and she ate. Zeus punished her by turning her into a wolf-like creature, and banished her from Olympus. Because she was a goddess, she retained her powers and strength, and over time found she could pass her curse onto those she bit or scratched. Those unfortunate souls became known as lycans, where we get the term lycanthrope.
Give me your conact info, I have something to discuss with you concerning werewolves.
Just like dragons many countries have their own legends of how Werewolf's became.
The Neuri, a tribe living in Eastern Europe, were said to be werewolves. Interestingly, amongst the Serbs, a people with a high % of native pre-Slavic invasion Balkan blood, the name Vuk (wolf) is pretty common.
Ah, this is where the term “lycan” came from I assume.
Nothing gets passed you.
Lisa Walker dick
Giving birth to the conditions known as "Lycanthropy" and "Lycanthrope".
@@StifMiesterG Eat a bag of us.
Lisa Walker stfu with ur toe nail fungus. You got mad cause he made a correlation of things. I bet in person u wouldn’t have said that to him.
Nicely done. I wonder though if this is truly a Werewolf story, rather than just one of the many transformation stories in Greek mythos, since I've never seen any hint that Lycaon changed back and forth from human to wolf, etc.. That seems to be the defining characteristic of 'Werewolf' lore. Obviously, the argument could be made that this laid the groundwork...
So his name is where the word "Lyca" originated.
It is originated from the Greek word lykos (λύκος) which even nowadays means wolf..
That's where the word lycanthropy comes from a wonder tho arcadium wonder if that inspired redhot chillies on album stadium arcadium
I love the music you play in the background and I love these videos. Thanks to you and these videos i now understand Greek mythology more now thank you 🙏🏻
This channel is awesome. Great content short to the point but without leaving important details out. Please keep this great job!! I'm binge watching all your videos right now!!
THanks for all this videos, you really make me learn more than I knew on Mythology!
Man, I never thought of there being an actual telling of the first werewolf, buy after hearing this, I'm stunned. Zeus punished the king for a good reason because this king was in fact as you said that in most stories of king lycaon was a monster and if acted like one he would become one. And that's why no king or queen should ever test the gods and what the kings or queens claim that would please the gods that would in the end reward the kings or queens for these actions and/or offerings. Anyway, well said here.
Strange enough that all my life I've had an irrational fear of wearwolves. Turns out my lineage is heavy with greek blood.
Drakes not Greek. He's black. And Jewish.
And yet there was no signs of Werewolfs in Greece for... Never. Only a hoax in USA, kinda far, lol.
@Timothy McCaskey
I was being sarcastic, here is the thing for the legends of Europe USA is an odd place to look for. I was being sarcastic of how people belive things like that yet in a place where there is an acient legend about it has no traction.
strange i love them
I hadn't heard this version of the legend before. Quite interesting.
Thanks for this video. Been trying to find the basis of werewolves in Europe for a long time. And again thanks for letting find out on my birthday. 💫💫
Happy Birthday!
Perfect for my gothic poetry
Awesome videos bro, a bit short but none the less very entertaining videos. Thanks
A lot of people do ask for longer videos, I just fear certain topics become boring when stretched out. I do have some quite longer in depth videos to release fairly soon tho.
Your channel has seen some crazy growth over the past few weeks! Congrats!
Thanks! I'm not sure why, how or where from but I'm not gonna question it.
Just subscribed. Keep up the good work. 👍
I love mythology, keep up the great work.
How about some Fae stuf? Summer courts and winter courts and such
sounds like it
Omg, I freaking LOVE Harry Dresden. But Jim Butcher was not the first to write about the Fairy Courts.
Zeus: "How DARE you kill one of your countless sons?! As punishment, I will revive your fallen son, then brutally kill all your other (innocent) sons!"
This myth is about the transition from worships requiring or permitting human sacrifice to a more "civilised" worship where human sacrifice was abhorrent. Mount Lykaion had one of the oldest cults of Zeus, if not the oldest, and it has been documented there was genuine effort to eradicate the worship of Lykaiou Dios (Wolf Zeus). It is not by chance that in the story Zeus appears as a traveller; in later centuries Ksenios Zeus (Zeus protector of hospitality) became one of the most dominant worships of Zeus. Basically it is a precautionary tale: abandon Lykaion Zeus in favor of Ksenios Zeus if you do't want to turn into wolves.
i love you, your voice and this whole channel
Congrats on 200k my man

PLEASE do myth of the Hawaiian GODS
Typhon and echndina
Great video
I think there was a similar story which included more gods and not only Zeus... Do you know that one?
Thank you
You're thinking of Tantalus and Pelops. Pelops' father was Tantalus, king at Mount Sipylus in Anatolia. Wanting to make an offering to the Olympians, Tantalus cut Pelops into pieces and made his flesh into a stew, then served it to the gods. Demeter, deep in grief after the abduction of her daughter Persephone by Hades, absentmindedly accepted the offering and ate the left shoulder. The other gods sensed the plot, however, and held off from eating of the boy's body. While Tantalus was banished to Tartarus, Pelops was ritually reassembled and brought back to life, his shoulder replaced with one of ivory made for him by Hephaestus.
Dude I have never heard that before awesome story
The god Apollo also had the epithet Lyceus attached to his name and this could be because he was invoked for protection against wolves or it could be that this god originated in Lycia in what is now Turkey. The Lyceum academy in ancient Athens took its name from this and the word entered into some European languages like LYCEE in French which is a type of school.Liceo in Italian.
Kalo Arepo And Liceu in Portuguese
The original meaning is light or light born. Hence the connection with him.
The original werewolf.
I'm greek and here we don't have any sightings of werewolves or any other cryptids or monsters. The ironic part is that most of them originate from greek mythology.
I absolutely love this story. Werewolves are very cool and awesome.
I love your videos.❤️❤️❤️
I love this channel
Very interesting.
Lycaon happens to be the name of the genus that includes the African wild dog, also known as the African painted wolf.
Dang,I forgot that it's midnight for me. Seriously though,I'm glad Zeus didn't tolerate human sacrifice. This reminds me of Athena and Arachne and the only difference is that Zeus wasn't being sour like Athena.
That was only one version. It's like considering the "Injustice gods among us" Wonder Woman as the definitive Wonder Woman.
Hey, I looked around on CZcams, and couldn't find anything on King Lyncus of the Scythians, another greek punished by the gods. Maybe you could cover him.
The story of Tantalus is similar, you should to a video on it too! New sub! Great work!
You have a very nice quality to your voice and your presentation that's relaxing and easy to listen to.You remind me of the host of a very old television program called "One Step Beyond" His name was John Newman. I believe he was an English actor. Check out some old clips.
I think I found the presenter you were talking about John Newland, he does have a very pleasing voice a lot smoother sounding than mine but It's something I feel like I'm improving with time. I'm a lot more comfortable now than I was in my earliest videos.
Well, he was classically trained too... You're doing just fine. Keep up the good work with all this wonderful subject material...there' lots of it!
Very interesting
Yo, fresh video!
Pretty awesome.
One version has Zeus turning Lycaon into a full wolf, not a wolf-man.
Zeus: stop killing kids!
Also zeus: kills all of ol boy's sons
Before anyone started saying that Lycaon deserve what was coming to him, you should look at what Zeus did to Metis. So its obvious that Zeus is just as guilty as Lycaon as well. I am not defending Lycaon by the way.
Where do you find your sources? I wanna read them myself
When i search who is the most powerful werewolf but no result that im looking for if you search strongest vampire it shows dracula so atleast i know the first and the father of all werewolves
I love your channel my man. But how can you have a channel about mythology without an in depth and comprehensive of the most powerful deity ever. The great Kronos, King of Titans, Slayer of Uranus!
Haha thanks means a lot, when I first started I thought I'd run out of topics in a few months but boy was I wrong. There are so many topics I want to cover fitting them all in has been a challenge. I assure you sooner or later Kronos will have his own video.
Would be a nice movie
The last few words I got mixed up on. Who is he feeding to who?
By the end of this video, I thought, oh, hey, Zeus is actually being a fair and just god, and then I thought, hey, wait a minute! Zeus is punishing Lycaon for the slaughter of his son, and yet Zeus is allowed to turn one of his own first wives, Metis, into a drop of water and consume her for her wisdom, and no one says a word? LOL Sure, what Lycaon did was horrible, but, uh...yeah, still. :/
Feed Zeus human flesh and turned into a powerful man beast whose only weakness is a sliver
Seems a little broken but ok
Umn...do Pegasus' brother, Chrysaor!!!
I still don't mind howling
echo please😊
AWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
TABLE FLIP!
Here from order
I’ve been a werewolf for many years now, and have been looking for a cure but at last I’ve come to realize this is my faith
how the unicorn was created and why
Lycan is werewolf name I see y
I believe the origin of the werewolf story start in Mesopotamia yeah there's is one story of The Legend of the Gilgamesh storyline
benefactum!
👍🏻
So this where the name 'Lyca' of the she-wolf soap came from🤔😂
Is this...real?
In Greek "λύκος" or in capital letters " ΛΥΚΟΣ " means wolf.
Louder than are fairies werewolves Origins came from Mesopotamia
So that’s where the word lyca came from
{ Amoose } its from the greek word "lycos" wich means wolf
Λύκος = wofl
So that's why the name Lycaon comes from the Werewolf that is known as the Lycan wolf
Aztec mythology maby

Alis
Surprise me again 😎😎😀🤓
Lycos (λύκος) is the wolf even in modern greek. Lycaon represerves the conflict between the differences and the conflict between the first Greeks and the previous inhabitants of the peninsula, the Pelasgians. The custum of human sacrifise was allien to the Greeks. So Zeus putted an end to his reign.
Lycaon got what he deserves
I won't to help prove it
Reminds me of the dog people
Woah no Zeus impregnating random creatures
So unfair need sub
who else is only here for home schooling because of coronavirus
Who else is a lycanthrope im not one yet but im in contact with a lycan who is willing to gimme the “bite ” and yes werewolves are real although i wouldnt call them werewolves because they barely look like that 😂👍
