    4:27 - Having a decent understanding of Hammer, I can understand how this works, why this works, and why this transition happens. Very clever way of doing it!
    It was a very neat concept! I had made something similar in the past but never finish. As for the "missing walls" and whatnot, that's 100% just the mapper's mistake lol. Great video as always!

      @@RubRub7 happens. especially if you dont use dev texture but have everything in nodraw and only texture what you need in order to keep the funny triangle amount down (i think thats how it works?)

    I'd guess it's made with a 3D skybox like how you would see them in Half-Life 2, which would mean that a different part of the map is projected to the panel walls. Interesting to know it still works in Portal 2, if it actually is what I suspect it to be.

    This reminds me of looking glass in Prey. I won’t spoil anything but the effect is exactly the same.

    This reminds me of the intro in the Portal 2 Mod *_Thinking with Time Machine_* .
    Honestly quite a very interesting concept idea, I wonder if this is in reference to the F-Stop / Portal Alpha Opening Scene, since it seems to start on an island as well.

    It's so amazing just how creative Portal mappers are! 5:55 I'm not too familiar with mapping for this but I think it's both? Kinda seems like world portals trickery on just the beach and fancy shader work/brush toggle states for the panels

    this is a super cool concept! I think the vr in the chamber could just be like a skybox? theoretically if you get out in a cube and the textures are proper skybox then you would actually feel like you were somewhere else.
    the block-by-block loading of the texture is just how the skybox textures are updated perhaps
    no idea this is how it'll work but it looks really really cool nonetheless
    very well done

    Another amazing concept brought to "reality". So does the fact that it was virtual reality in a virtual environment mean that it's "extra virtual", or "double virtual", perhaps "super virtual"? These are the kinds of questions that Aperture would spend good money getting to the bottom of!
