There never has been, nor will there every be another performer like Michael. One of a kind.
Who lifted from Sam Cooke, James Brown and Fred Astaire. And it worked for him. 🥰
@@vaughnmiller4371more so Jackie Wilson than all of them. That’s who first inspired him.
@@IAmMarcoA Yes. I neglected to mention Mr. Wilson. 👍
Stranger in Moscow is such an underrated masterpiece. One of MJ's best songs. Thank you, Chris for sharing and analysing.
I will say it again - Michael should have done unplugged concert broadcasted across the globe and released. The guitar at the beginning of the song..amazing. Saxophone... This is a special song where his pain and sadness shine through, and most of us commiserate with him 💞 I think it’s one of the most melodic songs. You just sit here and appreciate Michael for everything he was able to express. Chris, thank you.
Prince suggested the same thing to him
I've always regretted that he'd put so much effects & decorum in his live shows, as in the end it felt like he was "drowning" under all those layers, while he obviously didn't need them at all to be able to shine (and nope, contrary to popular fans opinion, he didn't have laryngitis during all of his Dangerous Tour & History Tour periods... he was just tired and strained and he wanted to put up a "blow-your-mind" show where people would go nuts (he repeatedly said it in a few interviews). That's also one of the reasons why he's so underrated as a vocalist. Chris' listening sessions allow everyone to appreciate the depth of his vocal performances, I wish they would reach more people as they're really "ear-opening" and enforce respect even to those who
But still... a full concert by MJ, one spotlight on him, eventually unplugged (or semi-) musicians, no background dancers jumoing all over the place, no special FX but his raw voice...would have been a delight
@@filigrifI thought the same thing. I even think Janet should’ve done a vh1 unplugged concert for the same reason. People sleep on both of them vocally and it’s a shame
Yesssss That would have been great for him for even new fans or fans that he lost just to kind of bring him back and more of an intimate environment And then have special guests. Such as Blackstreet doing there, version of Billie Jean with him, and all of them sitting on stools, including Michael. Of course, there would be a little bit of dancing, but you get what I'm saying.
I love how they used his beatboxing as the bass line and then built around it
'Stranger in Moscow' Is an effin' masterpiece
My favourite MJ song 😊❤, i remember hearing it when I was just about 5 or 6 and got transported into another World.
Story behind the song: MJ was quite literally in Moscow shortly after the '93 allegations broke. Alone in his hotel room, feeling isolated by his fame and whats going on while simultaneously seeing a crowd of fans giving him support outside of his hotel window..
He captures the feeling of isolation, pressure of the walls coming in, and loneliness in that moment.
Yes we know
The song is mostly written by Brad Buxer, who did not get the credit on the album! (kind of bad style) He did not complain because MJ was so sad (and his employer)
@herle Brad Buxet wrote the music, not the song lyrics. He took what he was working on for Sonic 3 and created the music for the song that MJ wrote to.

Yes CHRIS!!! It’s HERE! It’s Michaels most passionate and underrated song ever ! I’m glad you listen to us MJ fans we appreciate it! 🖤 (fun fact: the members of Toto played the instruments for this song!)
I didn't know that!!! thanks for sharing that fun fact!! ... I think that's why this song and "Human Nature" (Porcaro's touch) are some of my favorites... (obviously I cannot choose just only one)...MJ forever💖💖
I absolutely love Toto. I knew about Human Nature but didn't know they played on Stranger in Moscow. Very interesting.
The guy was literally shouting out loud how lonely he was...
This track is definitely in MJ’s top 5 songs, lyrically, musically and mood is frightfully stunning.
“We’re talkin danger baby” is so great.
great line
can u imagine if michael had done an acoustic version of stranger in moscow !!! just his vocals and the acoustic guitar would of been chills down the spine hair on the back of ur neck standing up greatness thats how amazing this song is and how fantastic michael's vocals are his ability had no boundaries no limitations!
Prince, who came to see MJ during the "History" recording sessions, suggested him the same thing.
There is kinda like a light mix of the song that doesn't have much percussion, but it does start off with the guitar and eventually the song builds up
It's called Stranger in Moscow (tee's light ac mix) and it's not on spotify, but you can find it on youtube.
@@Bernardin1that was a suggestion from 8 years later stop mixing information up
I'm a man of simple needs: I see Chris posting a new MJ multi track video, I click ❤
Every single time
Ladies and Gents: the greatest of all time right here!
I’ll have to echo everyone who commented before me. There will NEVER be another MICHAEL Jackson. Awesome Chris.
Brad Buxer spoke about the production...for those who are interested. For the beat: He extracted MJs Beatboxing, sampled them into a Akai MPC 3000. The kick was a Roland 909 triggered by the MPC 3000. Part of that beautiful piano sound was a Roland MKS 20 :)
13:31 his harmonies is something that makes him stand out from other artists. And i heard him talk about how long he would spend time finding the new ways to harmonize. Doing it again and again and again.
12:00 wow that hiccup before " then a begger boy called my name" is amazing never hear before. And the way he says "my" before name, is so beautiful
I love your channel. Not only is it educational, but I feel like Michael’s songs deserve these kinds of detailed breakdowns. If only we lived in a world where Michael was loved as a singer and a musician rather than made look like a monster by the tabloids.
Thank you for speaking my mind
Not even Elvis could sing like Michael Jackson the true king of Pop for ever amen god bless you Michael we will love you always
With you so on point
I love going through these MJ tracks I’m an 80’s kid so grew up with MJ in every stage.
HIStory is an incredibly underrated album. Both me and my brother are huge MJ fans and we still argue about it today 😂 I usually tell him to go to sleep and have some respect! Stranger In Moscow is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you Chris, very much enjoyed this.
History itself is another underrated track
Mj has instrument credits on that album
This song is an absolute masterpiece
Is it wrong that I could just listen to you dissect Michael Jackson all day long? 🔥 Brilliant, Chris - thank you again! 👏
No... SO RIGHT :) !!
Yes
I come back to this song a few times a year. Thank you for visiting his legacy and sharing in his amazing talent with all of us. He was special and his music continues to inspire!!! ❤

Miss this man. Master of his craft, pure genius!
My favorite MJ song along with Human Nature. Michael Jackson just kills the vocals on Stranger in Moscow. Love your analysis. Great stuff. The entire song is gorgeous from the instrumentation on up to the vocals. Brad Buxer should have gotten co-credit for this song as he was instrumental in the formation of the melody. The melody is just so moody and ethereal. Pure genius.
,, Jackson had a unique ability to inject words with weight, to make people feel them far beyond the way they look on a lyric sheet. As Marvin Gaye once put it: " Michael will never lose the quality that separates the merely sentimental from the truly heartfelt. It's rooted in the blues and no matter what genre Michael is singing, that boy's got the blues". ( Joseph Vogel: Michael Jackson and the art of compassion. Earth song)
Do you have that Joe Vogel book in pdf?
@@for-house-stark no. I just bought it together with the other one ,,Man in the music, the creative life and work of Michael Jackson,,. I can only share gladly Sabine Kocher ,,I'll be there. The aRt of Michael Jackson,, another amazing reading. (Kindle format, Amazon).
I have always felt that about michael. His singing is so heartfelt and pure no matter what he sings. It's almost he becomes different characters to pull off the feeling in each song.
My sister committed suicide and this was the last song she was playing in her car so it's really hard hearing it broken down.
😢
🙏🏾
I had no idea those acoustic guitars were even in there
Going deep into every MJ's songs is like going deep into his heart and soul and he is full of emotions and energy. It's almost like every song of MJ has the heart & soul of its own. That's why all of his songs are so fresh to listen to.
One of his most underrated songs along with who is it
This is the song Michael wrote when he was going through a lot back in 1993 about the Child allegations.
Brad Buxer his musical director at that time did a fabulous job putting all this together.
Also in this song there are only Major chords which creates a lot of anticipation.
Being a huge MJ fan that I am I couldn’t resist to post some trivia about this song.
The drums that you hear are Beat box of 11 seconds done by MJ into his voice recorder.
Then Brad Buxer cut and sampled it and panned it as you can hear.
I belive his name is BUXER, not Buxor.
@@richardkovacs2006thank you. edited the spelling,
The strings and piano are unique on this song, it sounds so amazing that the song would have been great even without percussion.
In the track a child shouts at the beginning..he's saying 'Hello Michael' in russian I think..i saw in a vdo when michael recorded this with a kid as there is the line "then a beggar boy called my name". I didn't know it's for this song.. I thought they were just playing! One of my most fav songs.. Thanks so much for this content! 😊🎉🙏

those vocals are simply breathtakingly beautiful and powerful.
Chris. In truth, Michael Jackson is the greatest artist and I don’t know anyone else breaking everything down and allowing us to dig deep and take the musical experience to a whole new height. Thank you! Keep going and please analyze Threatened from Invincible and 2000 watts
you know what would be really monumental in terms of tracks from Invincible - if we eventually had Whatever Happens separated tracks. that would’ve been real awesome
I remember how anxious I was when the "History teaser" came out in 1995, I was 15 years old back then, the wait for the whole album was eternal for me, and this track was an instant hit for me alongside "they don't care about us" and "Scream", but this "Stranger in Moscow" had an extra something that makes me love it so much more, thanks Chris for bring this song for being analyzed by you.
A few people have mentioned… but Brad Buxer deserves credit. It’s his music… Brad has talked about how this started and how he chopped up MJs beatboxing to create the drums. It’s one of my favourites… MJ and Brad did wonders on this.
❤desrvescredItIshsImusIcBrad
Literally what Brad did was he pitched this idea to micheal which micheal originally didn’t want to do so he took the credits theme to sonic the hedgehog 3 and slowed it down and showed micheal which at the time micheal didn’t know was from the game agreed to it and it turned into this
His most creative masterpiece of all came together on this track. Apparently way past his prime he never seemed more artistic than he was on this album.
17:58 I’m literally in tears. Damn you left us too soon, Michael….
One of Michael's masterpieces, thank for this analysis, it brought a few tears to my eyes 🥺❤

Another MJ track for Chris to geek out to! YES! An all-time classic at that.
HIStory was Michael's rawest album & there's so much quality in that album that some people overlook.
I can't pick favorites between Michael's albums because that's like picking your favorite child.
But if I was absolutely forced to I would pick HIStory as my favorite thanks to a compilation of greatest hits from Michael's other albums being included with the set. So I get HIStory AND all the others at the same time.
How DOES it feel, Chris? How DOES it feel? How does it feel...when you break down tracks & it hurts insiiiiiide?
My forever favorite song of Michael! The amount of emotions is unbelievable..my favorite line is ""happy days will drown the pain ""
Thank you chris!❤❤
oh my God THANK YOU CHRIS!!!!! This is my absolute favorite MJ song. Can’t wait to watch this
I never understood why this song isn't more popular. Also the video is beautiful. They should really re-release that in HD. Anyway, really interesting break down. Several elements I never noticed as part of the total.
One of a kind. No artist had more talent, and his feel for rhythm is second to none.
My favourite song of mj, and probably of all time. ❤ Great to hear it isolated like this.
btw, the way you are vibing with this multitrack is golden 😆
I'm very picky about songs but This song I never get tired of listening. Is a glare of magic either on Michael's voice, the beat, percussion or the background violin....amazing. Hey Chris there is a song I will love you can evaluate called BLACK VELVET performed by ALANNAH MYLES rock and blues influenced lyrics based on Elvis Presley life from child until he died....I love that song.
Easily my favorite ,lol but I say that about all of his songs . If your an MJ fan then you know what I'm talking about !!!!!!! Thanks for posting this , I really love this one ❤and MJ
Michael’s vocal range was truly exceptional, allowing him to convey a wide range of emotions with his singing. His voice could be both smooth and soulful, powerful and passionate, adding depth and meaning to his songs ❤
One of his best and most vocally underrated songs 🔥🔥🔥
3:11 - 4:29 MY FAVORITE PART 🤩
Actually ya this song was written during his first visit to Moscow in ‘93. He was in his room at the Metropol Hotel (I was there in 2016 and saw this piano behind which he wrote Stranger). Oooh and that boy screams “Privet, Michael” so amazing! Aaaand those Russian words in the end of the song omg omg
Thank you Chris! I have goosebumps for sure! That’s my favorite song and not only because I’m from Russia 💘
Thank you Chris, from the bottom of my heart!
Hello from Russia 🇷🇺
This song always manages to wrap itself around my soul and into my bones. It's SO GOOD 🥰🥰🥰 I feel warmth and shivers all over, all at the same time
Laying on my floor crying as I listen to this 😘🤣 love you for doing this!
🫶
many thanks! chills down my spine!
YES CHRIS!!! Thank you for doing this song - I've been waiting to hear the grit in his belting at the end for so long. And man, it did NOT disappoint. What a voice, what a master.
What a masterpiece, the lyrics, melody, short film and performance, everything!!! This is MJ and Brad Buxer making magic, thanks for posting it.🤩🤩🤩
So many of us have been waiting for this one. It's been my favourite MJ song for the longest time, and i get such a profound feeling whenever i listen to it. The way he sings "Lord have mercy" towards the end just gives me chills. Also, the music video is just utterly gorgeous to watch. Thanks Chris!
❤beenmyfavourteMJsongfor
Didn't you know that Michael always did the vocals to the songs that he wrote?! The sounds on top of the samples are Michael himself adding the vocals to the instrumental track of his song, I e., "Stranger in Moscow" which is one of his fiercest productions! That's MJJ Productions, that's why I miss him so much cause we weren't suppose to see/hear nothing yet! "Thanks Dr. Murray for not honoring Physician do no harm"!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
my gosh that beat is just, if you really listen- ugh there won't ever be anyone like him again, he had his own art in music
I love this song. Michael in music video I can watch it repeatedly. Its beautiful. It makes me feel a certain way each time i hear MJ sang it.
One of the best songs by MJ! Absolutely genius 🙌
❤onefothebestsongsbyMJAbsoue
I don't listen to Stranger In Moscow often, but i can appreciate this vocal performance. Heavenly.
MJ’s vocals 😍😍😍.. such a masterpiece .. had been waiting for this video 👌👌👏🏼👏🏼
13:47 Idk why but specificaly this section of the background hamronies sounds so satisfying. Mjs harmonies are always fire
Do you know everybody,
The music original came to on video game Sonic on 1993-94…
Too late , it’s Brad Buxer is arrange the same music and the melody.
Michael was write the lyrics only, but you can read on the credits on History Album is wrote : lyrics and music by Michael Jackson.
3 years ago, Brad Buxer was interviewed in France and it say :
You not credited for the music
Why ?
It say : oh it’s not important, it’s Michael Jackson the king of pop
This response was very humble.
👍👍👍
After all these years, I still listen to Stranger in Moscow weekly! ❤
I felt that “lord have mercy “🥶🥶❤

This video is soo good you should do a part two just to enjoy the song again
Absolutely brilliant piece of music and vocals. Remember to this day my first listen through the album - it was powerful and full of color! A joyful celebration despite the deeper lyrical themes. Another song that would be interesting to dissect is “Money” - lots of hidden goodies and the most hip hop/rap like vocals from Michael.
I didn’t know how layered this song was 🤯 so many things happening, but it’s like a calm storm unlike the chorus of uptown funk, where there’s so many things happening and it’s in your face 🤣🤣
One of the most beautiful MJ tracks. The Composition on this one is just next level beauty. Goosebumps every damn time. Unfortunately this track didn't get as much attention and love like his other famous singles. Underrated.
All time favorite track. Thanks for the breakdown... Appreciate it 👍🏻
My most favourite song by MJ besides Wanna be startin' somethin'. Great!
The performance for this in the MJ ONE Las Vegas concert is AMAZING btw I just saw this for the first time last week and was blown away
It was so MAGICAL ✨️❄️ I saw it a few years ago. I teared up during this presentation. I was blown away. The MJ One Show in LV is one I recommend to people over and over
case for one of the most beautiful songs of all time
it really tormented him the way the world turned on him
FIIIIIINALLLYYY!!!! 🎉 Stranger In Moscow!!!
❤RlllllMALLLYYYStrangerMoscow
This is pure gold, it’s divine.
Thank you.
He wrote this song during the dangerous tour, when he was in Moscow in 93. The last lines, especially how he almost shouts "I'm living lonely" literally screams after being loved and happy. This is one of my favourite songs by Michael.
Michael Jackson wrote this song, its lyrics and rhythm. Brad Buxer worked with the instruments based on the beatbox rhythm and melody that MJ made on a tape recorder. It was a work between both of them on the music side. He also planned to do music for Sonic 3, but it didn't happen. MJ didn't like the sound of the consoles at the time, she thought it would be devaluing his work.
I wouldn't have expected the 12 string guitar to sound so Lofi, not just Lofi, but it doesn't sound totally perfect. Not that that's bad, but it's not very common in MJ productions. While it is true that MJ himself experimented and let himself be less than perfect from time to time, most of the instrumentation in his stuff has historically been very produced and perfected down to the smallest detail.... you can hear the imperfections here though, and it's interesting that they left that in. I like it.
Oh my goodness, Chris! This is one of my top MJ songs, I adored it the moment I heard it. The instrumental is beautiful, mellow yet so sentimental. You did a wonderful job analysing these multi tracks, love your input. Ironically, I watched this video whilst walking in the rain haha😄. You're amazing, thank you so much for sharing these with us and your insight!
Finally Stranger in Moscow ❤😊 Thank you so much, i’ve been waiting for this Song in your range for so many years !!
Perfect, thanks 🎉
Chris, honestly, thank you so much for doing this song!! This video made my year. This is one of my favorite songs. I listen to this song almost daily amongst others of his songs. And I love how you break down the musical beats and especially Michael’s vocal. I enjoy all your MJ videos. If you can, please do Break of Dawn from MJ’s Invincible album if you can. Again, love watching your channel. Looking forward to further MJ videos 😊
Cada vez que assisto esses vídeos do Michael, fico mais encantada e convencida que ele era um GÊNIO muito além do seu tempo e que nunca existirá outro igual.
I think this is the first song I noticed his beatboxing
This is one of my favourite MJ tracks, and once again your energy and enthusiasm for his genius makes me smile from ear to ear 🥰 thank you so much for continuing to shine a light on his beautiful music.
One of my all time favorites of MJ. Thank you so much!
Did not expect to hear a Korg Wavestation sequence on this track: 8:50. It makes a fascinating mix with guitars
14:18 you're having too much fun😂😂
This is one of my favorite MJ songs including Jam, Black or White, Dangerous and Blood on the Dancefloor. Thanks a lot for this enjoyable and educational video. - from a huge MJ fan in South Korea
In 96 i was listen on Walkman history album always i was skipping the song, in present i m listen fully the song. Especially all instrumentals. Thank you Chris!
