Transforming a hillside into a vibrant garden presents a unique opportunity to blend textures and colors in a dynamic setting. By incorporating Weigelas, Artemisia, and Burning Bush, you can achieve a stunning tapestry of foliage and flowers that change with the seasons. Weigelas, with their profusion of bell-shaped blooms, add a splash of color and attract pollinators, while the silvery-gray foliage of Artemisia provides a soft, contrasting backdrop. The Burning Bush, known for its brilliant red foliage in the fall, creates a dramatic focal point that draws the eye and anchors the garden. These plants, chosen for their adaptability and visual impact, thrive on a slope, helping to control erosion and stabilize the soil.
Accenting this foundation with Black-eyed Susans, Angelonia, and Verbena introduces a lively burst of color and texture throughout the growing season. Black-eyed Susans, with their cheerful yellow flowers and dark centers, offer a sunny disposition that brightens the hillside. Angelonia, with its tall spikes of purple and white flowers, adds vertical interest and a touch of elegance. Verbena, a hardy and versatile plant, brings clusters of vibrant blooms that spill gracefully over edges and fill gaps with continuous color. Together, these accents create a harmonious and eye-catching garden that not only enhances the beauty of the hillside but also provides a haven for pollinators and wildlife.
Pruning roses is essential for maintaining their health, encouraging vigorous growth, and promoting abundant blooms. By carefully removing dead or weak stems, crossing branches, and spent flowers, you can shape your roses and improve air circulation, which helps prevent diseases. Complement your rose garden with an accent bed of hardy geraniums, Bobo hydrangeas, lavender, and euphorbia for a striking display of color and texture. The hardy geraniums offer a lush, ground-covering foliage with delicate blooms, while the compact Bobo hydrangeas provide stunning white flowers that transition to pink. Lavender adds a touch of elegance with its fragrant, purple spikes, and euphorbia introduces an architectural element with its unique foliage and subtle flowers. Together, these plants create a cohesive and visually appealing garden that enhances the beauty of your roses.

So nice to see you and your husband working together in the garden. You inspired me to do a little garden cleanup. I was out this morning trimming back roses and deadheading. Thankfully the Japanese beetles seem to be on their way out!

Hi Brandi I didn’t have japenese beetle this year cause I use BioAdvanced All-In-One Rose and Flower Care, Granules in the spring and again in July. For extra protection I will work some in again in October. So glad it inspired you. Kevin definitely is such a help too me in not only supporting my garden CZcams journey but helping me with the chores.

Your garden is looking great! It’s SO a humid here in SC. I have to go in and outside in 15 minute intervals.😂 I love black eyed Susan‘s! I have 12 plants in my yard that are about to bloom. Did you know blackeye Susan‘s attract dragonflies?! Also, dragonflies can eat hundreds of mosquitoes in one day!🙌🏼 enjoy your dragonflies!🥰

Joellen I so try to beat this heat. But when the humidity is high that early in the morning it tends to have me working in stages. Thanks as always for your support. black eyed Susan are one of my favorite. I knew dragonflies eat mosquitoes but didn’t know black eyed Susan bring them. Might be why I’m seeing a number of them in my yard. Thanks for sharing that tip.

Stay safe!🙌🏼🤣They are my spirit animals.🥰

If that plant with the red bloom is a verbena, it will over winter in your area.

Hi Larry yes it is if you are referring to the ones in front of roses and Bobo hydrangeas. My garden friends in NC that I visited I went to Creekside nursery and got them.
