I feel that the biggest trade hasn't even happened yet.
For those of you wondering about the first rounder that Calgary got for Iginla, they would use that pick to draft Morgan Klimchuk, who would go on to play 1 game in the NHL

Sad that Steve Mason's career went so bad. I mean he had a lot of potentials to develop into a great goalkeeper but injuries and some lack in faith brought him down.
2012: Kings trade with Columbus to get Jeff Carter and win the cup.
2014: Kings trade with Columbus to get Marian Gaborik and win the cup.
2023: Kings trade with Columbus to get Gavrikov and Korpisalo and… 🧐

Just to speak to the edit on Quick at the end. He didn't refuse to report to CBJ. They never wanted him in the first place but had to make the deal. They intended on flipping him immediately and Quick was made aware of it shortly after the initial trade.

Quick would of not reported, request a trade or retire than play for them with zero chance of a cup. Blue jackets gm knew that so he did the right thing and traded him to the team ahead of the kings the knights plus they are close enough his family wouldn’t have to separate he has three kids. If the kings trade him to the knights it would of been stupid.
I lived ben bishop. He’s the reason I’m a tampa fan and him retiring was one of the saddest days for me since watching hockey because I really wanted him to succeed after tampa.

Omg yes I remember Bobrovsky Playing out of him mind in 2013, it was not real seeing him play, i remember Columbus being outplayed every single time and Bobrovsky doing backflips and everything.

Obviously can’t say the rangers won the gabby trade because of what it led to in the next year’s final, but they made out pretty good. All 3 pieces from Columbus had instant impacts. At the time it really energized a team that had looked flat all season. Brassard played his best hockey as a ranger and then they managed to turn him into Mika Zibanejad. To think of what Gaborik and Rick Nash could’ve done together though….
There was also Michal Handzus going back to the Hawks to help them win a Cup
The Forsberg deal is one of the reasons I always will confidence issues with caps management 😮

Hey, I got to watch Doug Murray play hockey a week ago in the Sharks Legends game! Also, the Doug Murray trade didn't work out too well for the Sharks either. They used the #58 pick in 2013 along with their own #20 pick to trade up 2 spots in the first round and pick Mirco Mueller who was eventually traded along with a 5th for a 2nd (Mario Ferraro) and a 4th (used to trade up in the 4th along with a 7th to get Scott Reedy who was traded today for Jacob Peterson). The 2014 second round pick was used to select Noah Rod who played 11 AHL games and other than that stayed in the Swiss league.
Edit: Of course the #58 pick in 2013 (Red Wings) was Tyler Bertuzzi who was traded yesterday for a top 10 protected 2024 1st and a 2025 4th.
Detroit's recent trading for magic beans.. er.. draft picks indicates there is a new rebuilding phase going on and he has given up on the playoffs for a few years to come.
They claimed it was a youth movement, but they traded hronek whio was 25 and bertuzzi who was 28.
I'm finding it increasingly hard to have faith in the Yzerplan , especially if those draft picks fizzle.
Trading Vrana for a 7th rounder and a 27 year old prospect who's never played in the NHL is a serious ' Zetterberg' expectation at best.
I'm a 3rd generation Red Wings fan, but I am starting to feel shook.
No way to tell for at least 5 years whether this was worthwhile or going to be a footnote in history in the wrong way.
The core that the redwings were building wasn’t good enough. Not a wings fan, btw. But bertuzzi, Larkin are second liners on a good team, Zadina is a bust and there’s not much all that interesting in the pipeline. Some rebuilds just don’t end up working, Detroit has been kind of shafted by drafting outside the top 3 and it shows in the team. Seider is a good piece, and Raymond has lots of potential.

I don't understand how Philly got the short end of the stick twice. I thought that they won the Mason for Leighton trade.
Mason was never good as Bob was during his time in Philly and he was streaky asf.
@@idontgivetkachuk well obviously but they didn't trade Bob for Mason. They blew the Bob trade with drafting horribly with the picks they got. I'm just saying Mason for Leighton wasn't horrible. Mason was just very aloof. Nice guy I met him just very aloof. Goalies are weird.
Yeah, I agree. Mason was really quite good in Philly. Under-appreciated. He was no Bobrovsky, obviously, but this “short end of the stick twice” thing seems like a reach. One bad transaction for the Flyers here, just a really really bad one.
