    I am a survivor. At a young age I was raped. However at the age of 31 I stand in my full truth and know that I am so much more then the situation that I faced all those years ago. I am so much more then my circumstance. I've taken the power back that was stolen from me. My prayer is that all survivors of this monstrous, hideous, obscene, and outrageous crime will one day be able to say I survived. And I'm so much better than my circumstance would have you to believe I am. I pray that every Survivor is able to love themselves and other people in spite of this tragedy.

      First off thank you so very much for the compliment. Secondly I think that the young ladies who make false accusations against these men at one point in life were taught or picked up the belief that any attention is good attention. I believe that somewhere in their past they experienced a situation where something in their mind clicked and said if I do something negative I can gain more attention than if I do something positive. As a survivor it sickens me to think that anyone would want to gain attention or even a spotlight. From such a horrible crime. I can't deny that it has had a profound effect on my life. It in the past has hindered my ability to trust and let my guard down. It has also made me very aware that some people have the ability to become monster's. I believe that after the court has determined that whomever the young lady chooses to falsely accuse is innocent, that the young lady should do a mandatory 2 years of therapy. So that this young lady will fully understand what she has done and how life changing her lies would have been to the falsely accused. I then feel she should be mandated to spend that same 2 years attending various support groups for survivors of rape. With the support groups full knowledge of what she has done. Knowledge is power. When you know better you do better. I'm thankful that this video has opened up a door to have a much needed and important conversation. #IAmMySistersKeeper

  • @SlaveofChrist_
    @SlaveofChrist_ Před 7 lety +15

    I think the understanding not addressed is that rape is not soley violence upon the victim, screaming, fighting, and forced sexual intercourse. Rape can also be in the situation where the victim is not mentally capable of screaming, fighting, etc....because of any number of reasons as a result of alcohol, drugs, etc.. and that the person because of those reasons are unable to prevent that person having sexual intercourse with them.
    So, if this was the situation in the latter, than it was legally rape, if I'm understanding the definition of rape and categories. Just because it's not the typical violent act motive, doesn't mean it's not rape. Whether someone is murdered by a criminal or killed by self-defense. Both results in the death of that person.

  • @jennyperry3601
    @jennyperry3601 Před 7 lety +16

    False rape accusations are a major and rising problem in the United States. It is an over-convicted crime, especially amongst African Americans. More times than not you will find that the men convicted are innocent. I don't care what political agenda you have, you CANNOT convict someone just based on a "victim's" word. If anything, this is a crime that should REQUIRE ample amounts of evidence before the accusations are made public.
    If you do not agree to what I wrote above, then I am sorry to tell you that you are part of the problem.

    • @jennyperry3601
      @jennyperry3601 Před 7 lety

      Well I am not saying that they shouldn't report it, but that evidence is required. Why the hell would they wait so long to report it? That's their own problem.
      Second, who cares if you're a black woman? What are you trying to say by that? That you're more intelligent or less intelligent? Why does who you are matter? You think I'm going to respect your opinions more because you're black? WTF?

    I think that's crazy to say it's unfair that this case is coming up again, the case and suicide are related, this man is in the spotlight every day and she saw him every day how can you see your rapist every day and not be traumatized and reminded of the incident. People put way too much faith into this court system, just because he was acquitted doesn't mean he didn't do it. I can't say I won't watch the movie I would love to, but this conversation is a cover up and I'm seriously disappointed.

    • @AfrikanExodus
      @AfrikanExodus Před 7 lety +8

      I think you missed the point. The unfair part is people like you assuming you know the full story when you don't, and then taking that and saying you know he's guilty. That is unfair, particularly if what you think you know is really false, because almost 20 years later, there is no way to prove that it did not happen the way you claim.

    • @Hazardz09
      @Hazardz09 Před 7 lety +1

      This is true I see your point, however the case in question only acquitted him because of his partner the same man who helped him write the movie took the fall for it. I've gathered what facts I've seen and think he did it.... honestly he has been acting guilty from the start. His guilt is not necessarily what I'm mad about though granted it's a horrible thing to have done (I guess if you wanna speculate : to be accused of doing) He should not be the fave of a movement of awareness for rape, guilty or not he was accused and it's honestly disrespectful to victims of abuse.

    • @AfrikanExodus
      @AfrikanExodus Před 7 lety +6

      My thing is this, is there a possibility that he and his friend raped that girl? Absolutely. However, is there a possibility that him and his friend are among hundreds of thousands of Black men falsely accused of raping White women? I don't take it likely that he may have raped her, and I don't take it likely that she may have falsely accused him. So since I'm not in the position to know, I have to reserve my judgment.

    The transcripts of this case say it all. There was a third guy Nate invited into the room with this blacked out woman who said no because it didn't seem right.
    She didn't even know what happened and was trying to figure it out from Nate. If a girl was that drunk, she can't consent.
    Just because she's white doesn't mean Parker didn't rape her. Just because he was acquitted doesn't mean he was innocent. And harassing a victim outside of court is never forgivable.
    George Zimmerman was acquitted, but guess what, he murdered a teenager. Same for OJ. The US legal system is not my moral standard.
    I was extremely excited for this movie but after these revelations and the way he handled it, I will not be paying my money to see it in theaters. And the fact that he added a non-existent rape to the story of Nat Turner so he could avenge it, says a lot about him.

    He keeps saying that he has already spoken about what happen and he is not willing to relitigate the case. It comes off like he is trying to skirt this issues. Furthermore, I find it interesting that he can go on show after show to sell us reasons to go see his film (which I am knowledgeable about Nat Turners story so I was going to see the movie), being comfortable repeating the same info about the film yet does not want to talk about the rape. He does not give the impression that he has taken responsibility for running a train on that girl, which lead to her emotional and mental instability, ultimately leading to her suicide.
    I agree with +Joy A, he does not come off as a good guy and seems to lack authentic compassion and ownership of his role in this situation. Injustice via rape or police brutality is all injustice. It seems to me that Nate Parker should have pieced that together while working on this movie. It's all very sad.

      Have you considered that the reason he doesn't want to talk about it again is because the woman is dead, and that maybe he's trying not to disrespect her or her family?
      Recounting the issue naturally means that he has to once again assert his innocence, which by nature means he has to implicate that the deceased woman was a irresponsible liar.
      And yeah, OF COURSE he's promoting his film. He stepped away from acting for several years to work on it, and he really feels like it's a groundbreaking movie. It's the very thing that put him under public scrutiny. If it wasn't for the film, no one would be making a big deal about his old rape case.
      Why should he have to keep talking about something that he was acquitted for? Why should he have to keep talking about something that he has maintained his innocence on?

    The media is a trip! It's awfully interesting how when they have information on public figures, they are very calculated when this information is released and the spin they put on it. This movie just might get sleeping people to wake up! Why is it being released at this moment in time when it happened so long ago? She took her life in 2013? Why are they just now jumping on this information and finally, if he was acquitted what does that really mean to people? Or do we just want to look at someone and decide what they did or didnt do as if we were there or as if it happened to us personally by that person. Very interesting how mainstream media picks and chooses what they want us to see and hear and the sheep are lead astray. There is sooo much more going on in this world that if it were not for social media, we wouldnt even be aware of. So you say everything on social media isnt true? Neither is everything you see and hear on main stream news channels. They get to spin it just like the folks on social media do. Believe half of what you see, some and none of what you hear.

      because in the movie he included a historically inacurrate rape scene that never ocurred and made himself out to be the hero who avenged the rape victim. Thats why it came back, people had already known but he kept a small profile until this which made people,including the family of the deceased girl, feel insulted and uncomfortable over his use of rape in the film considering that past you speak of

    Parker was acquitted which means he is not guilty. I've read the details of this case, and this was a white woman accusing a black man, but according to the details it was completely consensual. This means he has nothing to do with the suicide also. I can agree this is a good time to use this also as a platform for sexual assault as an issue....nonconsensual sex is rampant although Parker wasn't guilty, but it is a problem. Parker has had several movies from that time to this, but the fact that this is now being talked about is proof that they want to crush the viewing of the film Birth of a Nation

    It just shows we as black men must have the upmost respect for all of our black and brown women and never allow them to be in a position like this with their bodies even if they initiate it or want to. They are precious. No more precious than a man, but who else is going to emotionally love and protect our black and brown women? Never let our black women show us their bodies unless we talking marriage. Those decisions laying down before marriage hurts us emotionally and mentally and spiritually and those mistakes are passed on to our unborn children. Protect our black/brown women with honor, respect, and treating them like royalty and queens even if they don't want it, need it or respect what you are doing. I've been called "Too Nice" by many beautiful black women I've treated with decency and it never affected my pride or dignity or changed how i treated them. I simply asked each of them three questions: "Well how do you want a man to treat you?" "What kind of man do you want." "What kind of man have you seen or had?" Each of them could not answer the question.

Steve Harvey said, she "happened" to take her own life Can someone let Steve Harvey know that trauma stays with a person indefinitely. It's not like his poverty that he just got over... And then he pulls the race card.... Can someone tell Mr. Steve again, that its not only race, it's race AND/OR power. Case in point, Uncle Bill - Jello Pudding Pops (Who's Black and most of his alleged victims are White and that was back in the 60s and 70s) ... Did Nate's family have the money, connections or social standing to win him favor or buy the defense he needed. And then poor Nate - playing the victim.... When the real victim is dead... In other words the defense is when you're 19, no one knows any better.

    Just because some women have completely fabricated a rape and falsely accused someone does not mean that you shouldn't take new accusations seriously. Go to the comment section of any article about a rape case and you will see a bunch of people saying the victim is lying. It doesn't matter what the evidence is, these people will harass the accusser and will never believe them.
    You can voice your opinion and defend the falsely accused, but if that's all you do without ever considering the other side you have some serious problems.

She said she didnt give consent as she was incoherent. He only was acquitted because they have had sex in the past. To me it seems he rapped a girl that was basically blackout drunk and he assumed it was ok because she let him hit it in the past. In short, he had not consent making him a rapist.

    Rapists go free consistently whether the rape victim is white or not. Having the blind assumption that if you are a white victim you automatically get justice or peace of mind after an assault is wrong, blindsided and detrimental to the evolution of the rightful and fair consequences that should occur to anyone accused of rape, whatever race they happen to be. Now you can say that as a white man you ARE more likely to get off on a charge because, he is right, the justice system is flawed and incredibly prejudice when it comes to race. It is fair to voice that observation. Placing an emphasis on the victims skin color takes away from the trauma they have endured, which is just as terrorizing on the victim regardless of race. Men creating a divide between women by pitting them against each other and starting up a "white women have it better than other women" debate, only further separates and differentiates women of all ethnicities, in a time we need to be united for the greater good, and the most positive change. White women do in fact have it better off than women of other races, most women, white included, can recognize that. It is a part of our society, but the way up is not to tear those women down, but to work unanimously to build and elevate women of all races. We must remember what we are really fighting for. So while I can appreciate at least the effort to open this discussion up to men (because it is in fact important to get men involved ), you really need to pay attention and speak and listen in a way that actually hears and helps the cause. It is important to choose your words wisely, especially if you are speaking to a national audience.

    • @caitlin3268
      @caitlin3268 Před 5 lety

      @@rogerclark5221 I said nothing about dismissing race, or implied guilt in any specific case. I realize there are cases of false rape (though not many) and I believe in due process for those accusations. Maybe you should re-read my comment. Plus the theory that issues like race or gender inequality are only applicable in America, or even for that matter, worse in America, is ignorant. America has its issues, but rape, femicide, misogyny, honor killings, etcetera are significantly more prominent in a multitude of other countries. As I stated above already, I agree that the justice system is corrupt and does in fact tend to favor white people (honestly most things do, as unfair as that is), but that was not what my comment was about. If you had taken the time to try to understand what I was saying, you might understand that it was more directed toward the lack of tact and accuracy in the delivery of Steve's comments about "white" victims. The fact is that women of all races face rape everyday and the repercussions of such, and almost all of them go unpunished and without justice. Men of all races rape, and women of all races get raped, just because you are white and get raped by a black man doesn't mean you automatically get justice for that action. It happens all the time, for men in general, regardless of race. I'm not saying anything about ignoring the racial divide, which is obvious, I'm simply saying that there are sexist issues that also need to be fixed. Any man commenting on rape (and yes I know men get raped too, but lets hold off on that for just the moment for arguments sake), any man needs to be careful about the wording of his opinion, because the fact of the matter is that men know nothing about living in the world as a woman and living as a survivor of rape as a woman. I just didn't love the wording of what he said. I'm not here to be all crazy or mad because I think its good that they are talking about it, but if awareness isn't brought to these kind of things, how will anyone ever really learn better?
