  • Join the cast of the critically acclaimed film, “The Birth of a Nation,” when they visit BUILD to discuss the period drama based on the story of Nat Turner. First time director, Nate Parker, also stars as Turner, a literate slave who strikes a deal with his owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), to become a traveling preacher who subdues slaves. Turner is also responsible for leading the bloodiest slave uprising in American history in the hopes of leading his people to freedom. Armie Hammer, Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Aja Naomi King and Penelope Ann Miller will join Parker to talk about the inspiring film.

      +King Walker that is load of an excuse. they have made Columbus movies for generations. A rapist a thief No one to celebrate and Nate knew that this would happen. They will make excuses. The sole reason for him not getting finacial backimg from a Major Movie company. but it's okay He was able to tell his story as he saw fit to tell it. I supported him after seeing him in an interview on the Breafast Club. I was moved by his story how he basically begged people to invest in this movie. He wrote a hero "story Nate said weather it made $8.00 or 7 million he wanted to celebrate the story he was taught If by making this movie classrooms would start talking dinner parties would start discussing. get people to discuss. Famous line: they are killing people because there black. No reason. just because. god bless👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏BRAVO MY BROTHER NATE

      It's more to that movie than what you think and what they tell you.

      Kymmze notice Gabriel Union isn't there? And they allow Ann Miller to pretend like her character was a partially good person, even slide on some women's rights. The white people up there (misspelled purposely) are all putting slavery and there behavior on the "system" the system they created. "I was born into it" the slave said the same, but he wasn't happy.

I don't believe she didn't know prior because of so many others who were aware. Regardless black got paid even if white supremacist search light isn't in "the black" yet they will be. Was the interviewer (Ricky) being really rude to the women of this interview? He didn’t really direct any questions to the women mainly focusing on the mens’ side. He seemed very dismissive of Aja when she was talking, he barely let her finish before turning to Nate and asking a new question. I get that he only has a certain amount of time to ask the questions but be decent. Just my opinion.

    • @keyandrak.berrymochadovepr2756
      @keyandrak.berrymochadovepr2756 Před 4 lety

      Kevin Odom I know this reply is TWO years late but I hopeful isn’t TOO late. The reason you don’t or haven’t heard about these revolts in the US is purposed. They did occur however they aren’t glorified or publicized because America is still profiting off of the after effects of slavery even 157 years post Emancipation. A large part of that profit comes from having/pushing the belief that slavery “wasn’t all that bad”, that “slaves had okay lives. They were housed, fed, given work etc.” and “were treated like family” as it has been said many times as it is a foundational thought of the descendants of the slave owner. With that said, if the MANY slave revolts/rebellions that occurred in the US were taught, publicized and glorified it would instantaneously debunk the aforementioned foundational belief because there would be no need for rebellion if things were as good as they claim them to be. This belief has caused for, even in this day, those descendants of slave owners/caucasians in general not to have the needed sympathetic reasoning to want to repair the damage done that is still ever present in this day within the relationship between America and its African descendant inhabitants. Moreover, these revolts aren’t pushed public knowledge because it threatens the set power structure of America. America thrives, unfortunately, by maintaining a foot on the necks of the descendants of Africa. If it becomes widespread knowledge that our forefathers didn’t take that mess from America lying down when they were enslaved, it would change the mindset of and build up an entire people that are now free. The insurrection this knowledge could cause would be IMMENSE and truthfully THAT is what they feared then and is MOST DEFINITELY what they fear now.
