    I've got a k28, and I wish I could have had this guide when I tried it back in 2018- shooting Foma r100 and using the guide to meter my shots, and probably not loading it in dim light.

    Mike! Another great cast metal (aluminum, right?) double-8mm camera from the HeyDay of Eisenhower! Man -- spring wound *movie cameras* that still work today! I'm not that old and I barely function! Great to see you running through the features of the cameras like this -- and your sample footage from the various cameras as well! I'd love to see a "behind the scenes" video of the FPP crew of hundreds, uh tens, uh few actually making the "home movies" on double-8mm and Super8mm -- To hear the smooth, clacking purr of the clockwork mechanism at 16fps and see the amazing camera work -- and on-screen talent!!!! :-) Cheers!!!!

    I own a K28, but it doesn't have the "Film when on this spool is only half exposed" spool. Do you know where i can find one?

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  Před 4 lety +2

      It's hard to find vintage "spools only" - you might have to buy a camera kit on eBay. Many cameras did not have the "Film when on this spool is only half exposed" written on the take up. Consider using some white artist tape and make your own label. - Mike

    I picked up one of these models at a recent photo swap meet and it appears to be in very good condition. However, it could probably use some lube and cleaning since it's hella old. Anyone recomend a place that does cleaning/certification/refurbs on these units?

    Is that a fixed focus lens on this camera. How does it work to be in focus, is it good from 5 feet to infinity in all aperture settings, is that possible?

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  Před 3 lety +2

      The lens in the video is fixed focus. Usually, a depth of field chart was printed in the instruction manual. Keystone and other brands also made D-Mount lenses that were focusable. - Mike

      There were two types of footage counters in 8mm cameras: geared and "feeler-lever", the former being more expensive to make. Usually top of the line cameras had geared footage counters (such as Bolex) that zeroed themselves automatically when the camera door was opened. Geared footage counters give a more accurate indication of footage shot/footage remaining. The feeler-lever type is fine for amateur cameras, and was used by Kodak in their first 8mm models.

    • @butlaoctu4464
      @butlaoctu4464 Před 4 lety

      @@jimshulman9221 weird, on first Look, lever Type footage counter seems less expensive(as Just a lever with one small spring) and more precise as it show you how much film has wound almost as you would see it if the camera was from Glass.

    • @jimshulman9221
      @jimshulman9221 Před 4 lety

      @@butlaoctu4464 A geared footage counter is particularly valuable when you come to the end of a roll and want to determine if, indeed, there is still film available for exposure or if it's time to change the roll. The difference of a foot or two is important: whether you're giving up an extra shot because there's still some unexposed film left, or if you're opening the camera too soon and fogging the most recent shot.
