Kodak Instamatic 100 - Overview and shooting
Can't wait for part 2 of this talking about repairing your own cameras. Also where can I buy leader/dummy film to test out projectors or cameras?
The Uhler Cine Printer has a regular or super 8mm gate attachment used to print copies from negatives, two different machines.
I have some Super 8 films. I did not as a kid. I did, however, watch a digest of Laurel & Hardy's Babes in the Woods in this format, when I was about 5. It started a life long love for those comedians. A few years later, I saw Pinchcliffe Grand Prix at a birthday party. I have been fascinated with projected celluloid film ever since.
Thank you. I have grown up with the Brownie. Just recently unrarthed it from storage. It still opens and not rusted over. I will try to find film and give it a go.
I have a bell and howell one nine that does not show the ISO numbers on the dial, but everything else looks the same. If I line up the iso the same way you did with the "40 ISO" setting and the correct aperture, should I expect to get the same result? Should I just try an app instead? Brand new into 8mm
With 40 ISO film, set the aperture to the smallest opening and shoot in daylight.
Hey! Just got one of these at a yard sale, pretty dingy and can't get the battery compartment to open. Is it supposed to just be pulled open or is there a button or latch? Is there a method I can use to get it open? Thanks! There aren't a lot of videos I could find about this model, so you have been a lifesaver!
this video is very good thanks for this :)
Thanks for putting this up, especially since you have the full transformation into Hyde. There are copies out there that actually edit that out.
Do any of you folks have a history on Yashica magazine cameras? Especially the era of development for their first magazine models….?
I know I am quite late to the game on this, and missed out, but do you know why Ilford perforated their 70 mm HP4 film? Are people using it as motion picture film?
Excellent questions regarding the perforations on the 70mm film. We're not sure why it's perforated. Not too late to order Ilford's Ortho Special Order 2024 - filmphotographystore.com/products/special-order-ilford-ortho-plus-ulf-2024 - Deadline is August 30, 2024
My local department store would sell 50' versions of dozens of movies for $5-10. I had 50' versions of Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man. My local library had dozens of 400 foot films sold by Republic Pictures to loan out as well. They didn't have monster movies but had more general subjects. I saw almost all of Chaplin's shorts, plus documentaries and newsreels.
My Dad bought a Bell & Howell 8mm camera and projector set, probably late 1950s. It came with a vampire movie (not sure the name) and Abbott & Costello Meet the Keystone Kops. We played those until they fell apart.
WOW! The film quality is so much better than digital, it’s amazing!
I found an old Charlie Chaplin, short movie, but don't remember seeing it when I was a kid. Probably because it was a regular 8mm movie. And my dad had bought a super-8 system. A friend of mine's dad had all kind of 8mm and 16mm projectors. And got a 8mm cartoon (French fantasy history character "Asterix" contemporary with Julius Caesar) which we watched several times a day for weeks on end. It was a sound movie of this character visiting Egypt and Cleopatra. We couldn't get enough of this short movie of 3 or 4 minutes length. This probably took place in about 1973 or 1974, when we were 11 or 12 years old.
Any idea what the copyright implications are of scanning these old condensed theatrical films and then posting that online?
Can scan for personal use. I've posted some on-line (like the full TheRaven - czcams.com/video/a1stDQyN2Z0/video.htmlsi=n8vrNzMXCR3RgKmY). CZcams will "de-monitize" the video.
Lessee -- late 1960s and very early 1970s, before my parents divorced, my dad had regular 8 camera equipment and a projector, and I remember watching some Popeye cartoons on the projector....
I did this for Christmas Eve! But now my 8mm projector chews the sprockets so I need to fix it or get a new one
Hi for ECN-2 film do you need extra stuff or is it just those three chemicals
Other than your tank, reel and darkness to load your film - this is all you need.
@@FilmPhotographyProject Thank you for clarifying so excited to try it out!
what's with the goof laughing at nothing in the background?
So glad I found this video! How do you rate the film when using the IR72? or it doesn't change the exposure?
Lots of info on the product page: Must be shot in broad daylight with a r72 Infrared Filter for the most dramatic results. You will lose (approx.) 6 f-stops with a r72 filter (check your filter instruction to find out what the "filter factor" is). You can also use a 25A red and a polarizer ( or 87IR filter ) for good results. Your results will depend on the amount of IR light in the air when you shoot. Your results will vary based upon weather conditions. More: filmphotographystore.com/products/16mm-film-double-perf-cine16-bw-infrared-negative-200-iso-100-ft?_pos=3&_sid=fc40d0efb&_ss=r
Are the restocks on this film monthly or? Just hoping to get some soon as ive had no luck with 35mm in a Reused cartridge .
Color will be restocked later this week (29 July 2024) filmphotographystore.com/collections/126-film
Thanks for the video! I was trying to close my Polaroid Automatic 100 for more than a year.
I hated the square Instamatic format back in the day. That is why I loved 110 format when it came along in the 1970's. Probably has a lot to do with why 110 film is still made, while 126 film is extinct, and has been for years. It can't be because of age, because 127 cameras disappeared around the same time as 126 cameras, but 127 film is still sold. Even though I no longer have any 126 cameras left, I still have my early 1960's 127 Brownie, and I have several working 110 cameras. I am glad, however, that someone is making a way to put film into 126 cameras. Old cameras of all types need a little love and attention. They were faithful servants for years and deserve to be used again.
Well done. Better than well, it’s actually exceptional. Really good how you choose your subject matter and your composition. It entertains.
super informative video!
I still have the lens from my grandfather’s camera -just like the one shown
I would love a part 2!
This was my first camera, which I got for my 11th birthay in 1963. I loved it ! I remember I bought a flash (or course) and an extra lens for close-ups. It also taught me how to be careful: as you say, after each snapshot you have to remember to roll to the next one, otherwise you get double exposures. I was delighted with the results.
I love her ,,, she seems like a lot of fun
Certainly MY favorite 126 camera. I also have an Instamatic Reflex, and while it's cool to have interchangeable lenses and SLR focus, i have to futz with ND filters and such to get the meter to read right. Instamatic 500 has a huge advantage being fully manual. I put a Telex rangefinder in the shoe and its basically a Retina-class camera in 126 format.
I have one. It’s a beautiful camera and is the best of the Instamatics!
I love my Instamatic 500! Here’s my system: (1) Clip the little pin (like snip off permanently with pliers) inside the camera that detects the sprocket holes. That allows the camera to wind and fire continuously. (2) Hand roll an entire 36 exp roll into a real Kodak 126 cartridge, no backing paper. (Takes practice, and MUST tape over back of camera with black tape like in this video.) (3) After each shot burn one shot with hand covering lens. I get about 23 shots per roll with spacing that varies. Cheers!!
The meter uses a lever to check the iso of the cartridge, via a notch in the cartridge, so you probably need to make sure you’ve 100asa film in your cartridge, very early dx coding system
Doh! Forgot to mention that meter only accurate with 100 iso film. - Mike
The Leica of 126 ❤
that shutter came close to being pornographic, man, what a camera
That's a good looking camera.
The lowest my camera can go is 2.3. Can it still work with that?
Bring sun - f16 Shade - f8 Indoors (near window or with light panel) - f2.3 Use PLENTY of light indoors.
@@FilmPhotographyProject thank you so much. I'll be ordering film soon!
It's a great camera. My dad had one, which I have now.
Just to confirm Mike -- this does work with the 35mm perfs? No crunching/tearing or gnashing of teeth???? Cheers!!!
Other than leaving a space between frames - works beautifully with 35mm.
@@FilmPhotographyProject -- Thanks! But of course now since you have endorsed this model -- the price will soar to thousands!!!!!! 😁
Bravo, Mike! Bravo👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Will be trying mine again once I fix back latch issue. Love the weight and size of this camera.
I really don't see why, in the era of Instagram and square format social media apps, no 126 film is being developed. It's mind-boggling and perplexing, and I feel like the dumbest man in the room because I cannot comprehend it.
The machines that manufacture this film have most likely been scrapped ages ago. Some options at the FPP - filmphotographystore.com/collections/126-film
@@FilmPhotographyProjectFerrania saved machines for it, we need to convince them. Even if they could just do 100 foot bulk film with the right perfs, or sell the injection molded parts for the cartridge. Got some rolls of your perforated film, can’t wait to get shooting with my GAF 726. It has full manual control! I have an instamatic 500 somewhere I’ll,have to try it.
What is a good used price for this camera?
I found my mine for $12 at a local thrift store. My back door latch is broken currently; need to fix that so I can use my Fakmatic!
Can be found for under $75. on eBay.
I have one question. Why would anyone put a picture of another house on their house?
I just got my kodak from a pawn shop so this was really helpful! I love photography like this and hope to be a pro some day, also did they ever make reusable bulbs? If not then can the old bulbs be refused? And if so how many times? Also how do the photos turn out when you don't use the flash? Is it a drastic difference or only a slight difference?
Check your flash - it does need batteries. Most flashes for the Hawkeye Brownie take a #5 or #25 bulb. You can buy them on eBay. A flash bulb is only good for one flash.
Just to let you know, I have a bell and howell 323 camera that has an handheld light meter on top of it with the sundial on the bottom. Can you get the right iso still nowadays with that old sunometer? Also, do you know we can get 8 mm projector bulbs for cheap?
The SUNDIAL will give you the incorrect aperture settings. Double 8 film in the mid-twentieth century had different light sensitivity. As described in the video - avoid the sundial.
nice aesthetic in images
You can likely get opaque filament or resin
I got one of these cameras like two days ago this is amazing timing 😭
been shooting 16mm and 110 exclusively for 2 years now. its the best. 18” is a full 24exp. kodak vision has no perforation or numbers visible. with a real minolta cartridge you only have to load half the cartridge in darkness, its the most easy format to load.
