Duracells are also now called "Duraleaks". Notorious for leaking. Always buy the silver Energizer AA's but don't leave them in the flashlite for more than a year or without taking them out and checking for leaks.
Just a suggestion as I haven’t experienced this. You can try soaking the cap in vinegar. Just stand the torch in it, leave it for a few hours/overnight. If it still won’t move you could then try some pliers. If you give this a shot let us know if it worked.

The cap on mine is stuck I cannot open it, I think it is corroded.
