Story 2: you sound crazy calling the o.p a jerk. I don't think we listened to the same story because clearly you did not hear that they split everything 50/50. So If he just stopped paying for the wifi and streaming services that only his girlfriend uses and not him he would be the jerk right? He doesn't get cold like how she does so she need to pay her share of the heating if she wants to use it.
I agree with this. In my house, I keep it at 67f year round (+/- 2 degrees). I have told my wife that if you want it higher, expect to pay for it. I get sick if the house gets too hot during the day or night. I also told her that if you ever get that cold, I will buy her a heated blanket and buy her all the blanket that she needs, Or I can get her a space heater that she can keep buy her

Yeah, the narrator needs to get a brain. Rate increases suck, but if she wants to keep her internet connection then she should learn to endure the cold. There are electric blankets, warm stews or cocoa, and other methods to keep warm that don’t involve a thermostat. She won’t be entirely without heat, just keep the thermostat down.
Agreed and I despise being hot, if I’m cold I can put on something warmer but there is only so much you can remove to cool off. I’m also female and I had a sister like this who was always cold I hated going to her house and sweltering, being that cold all the time ain’t normal, is she anemic or something. If some wanted me to pay to be uncomfortable I’d Kirk out on them.

Yeah, that one was another example of the reader having a pretty bad hot-take that ignores the feelings of the OP for no apparent reason. Again, the OP said he didn't like how hot the house was and we don't even know if 60 pounds is a lot of money for the OP. I've been broke enough myself that 60 USD is a lot of money and I have had to choose between more heating oil and some extra food before.
Actually not true because in housing the heat has to be on to keep pipes from bursting and then dealing with burst pipes and cleaning up the water damage is a hell of a lot more expensive then paying $30 bucks extra for heat you gonna bitch over $30 but be okay spending 1,500-3,000 to fix up the eventuality that they will freeze and burst

Story #2 the OP isn’t being a jerk. Just like the girlfriend uses the Wifi at times but it’s mainly the boyfriend who uses it so the girlfriend doesn’t pay that bill. If the girlfriend is always leaving the heat on but the boyfriend is asking to turn it down or completely off because he’s burning up then she needs to pay the extra money. Also, it’s 65 pounds on top of the bill they share. My conversion says that’s an additional $80+ dollars. Narrator needs to listen to the issue a little more before commenting.
Op in story 2 is not the jerk. The girl friend is. They had an agreement and now wants to change rules. The op didn't want heat on that high but she wanted it. There no benefits for op because he too hot and is suffering from girlfriend wanting heat up. The girlfriend should pay the whole bill because she one caused the bill and her actions have consequences so bill higher, she pays it as they agreed.
Story #2 - OP is not the jerk. I can relate to him. He is definitely not benefiting from the heating. I've often been in situations where my mother turns on the heating, when it's not cold, so I just end up opening the window of my room, cuz it gets too hot. And to be forced to pay for something detrimental to you is ludicrous.
In my opinion what the op should do in story 2 is make the gf pay half of the wifi and streaming services and stuff that he has been paying for if she is wanting him to pay half of a heat bill he didnt even want

Story 2 I cannot agree: That is a reasonable ask from the original poster. GF just wanted things her way and it ended in a 65 dollar increase from the month before. It seems like the narrator had forgotten to take the rent into consideration and just fully sided with the girlfriend who clearly wanted her way or no way.
story 2: it comes down to one detail that OP mentioned which makes their gf the jerk: the wi-fi booster and streaming services that the gf uses but 'doesn't really need'. If they should be splitting things because they both benefit, regardless of who decided to do it in the first place, then she better start paying half of those wi-fi and streaming costs. OP is correct: she is the sole reason the heater was used so much and she is the one not wanting to stick to her own rules.
I say this because I am the primary reason our AC gets used so much and our electricity goes up to $300 so I pay extra when that happens because without me, nobody else would be turning on that energy draining thing.
Story 2: I'm on OPs side, if the girlfriend is too cold she can use a blanket whilst using OPs WiFi and streaming services, also £65 is not an insignificant amount of money it's a weeks shopping for some and not equal to $65 more like $82.
And another thing if you are too hot you're not benefiting.

Story 2 - Wrong, narrator, wrong. OP should Not pay any of it. He doesn't want it on. Or He wants it turned down. She refuses to do that and then stupidly says that "there's nothing we could do for it to be lower". Turn it Down or turn it OFF. And she won't. Therefore she will pay for it.
Story 3 - OP did Exactly what needed to be done. Her mother started being an asshole and got exactly what she deserved. Put her in her place.
Sorry but OP in Story #2 is not the jerk at all. His gf is unwilling to compromise and if she’s that cold she can put on more clothes, wear socks or sweats or use blankets or something. Because it’s much easier for humans to heat up than to cool down.
Story 2: No…NTA. I myself shared utilities with a now ex, and he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I told him he can live without heat or without his online gaming subscriptions. He cannot have both as our budget could not sustain it. He got upset when he paid instead for his online gaming network subscriptions and I wouldn’t pay for the heating bill as a result (No money left), so we had to go without heat. I broke up with him not long after that.
Story 2: The OP is correct. In the UK there is a cost of living crisis and everyone is having to have their heating off since the cost is so high. In the current economy, £65 is a lot for extra on the heating. I shes cold put on a jumper, thas what we are having to do. She's using it extra, she should pay.
Story 1: That ex-GM was a complete moron and should be blacklisted from ever working in the food industry. That place was lucky they were only shut down by corporate and not the health inspectors or the IRS. I know the health inspectors would've had a hayday over the health violations and the taxman and labour boards wouldve had a hayday with all the hour tampering, and therefore, improper pay for the employees. Its always awful working for people like that and its good that that GM got fired over all this and even had his wife leave him for his affair with the AM manager. If i were the OP, i would've refused him service and banned him from the place when he tried to come in as a customer. Its bad enough he was a boss there, dont want him as a customer.
Story 2: Okay, really? How on earth in the OP selfish here? The gf is the one who is both selfish and unreasonable here. I get paying your equal share in bills and all that, but she is literally increasing their energy bill all by herself, and the OP is supposed to go 50/50 on it? Story 3: OP is not a jerk at all and the mom 100% deserved to be banned from the wedding here. She was rude and mean to the OPs future husband right from the very beginning and nothing has changed... so why should she be allowed to go to the wedding? Something tells me that the mom will try some sort of stunt if she did go.
Story 4: This whole situation for the OP really sucks, but the OP should really use it all as a life lesson. Need to move on and try and move forward here.

As a brit on pre payment meter it eats into your expenses so much and thats probably double what 2 responsible adults would use.
Story 2: another story where the reader for this channel has a kind of stupid opinion. The OP already made his feelings clear that he didn't like how hot his SO was keeping the house. Just ignoring his feelings on the matter reads more like just white knighting more than a reasonable opinion. On top of that we don't know if the extra 60ish pound heating bill is a problem. In some places, having certain disabilities puts you in a protected class. I don't know if ADHD qualifies, but it does allow a scummy company to virtue signal about having a disabled worked as a diversity hire.

Story 2: sorry, i disagree. OP is nta, girlfriend is ta. If OP doesn't want the heat on because he's too hot and asks his gf to turn it down and she refuses , then SHE is the one using it more. Although i do think that there should be an agreed upon temp setting and anything over that that the gf or op uses without both agreeing on the change in base temp, and it's a big difference in the normal bill amount, then they fall upon the rules of the agreement.

story 3: Well crap. I earned my BS in computer science with a 3.3 gpa, got a great job where I've been for 5 years and am earning a higher salary than my father ever did per year, but I guess I totally failed college because I didn't meet a husband.
Just so everyone knows almost everywhere has some kind of food safety violation. Mostly changing dates, but there is almost always some sketch stuff with food. Most places are ran by kids who do not care and the managers are run down and care probably less.

Story 1, when I was in high school I worked for a national steak house franchise known for their salad bar, and the GM was also having an affair with the asst. mgr. and was rather mean towards the male staff and flirted with the female staff, side note his wife worked there as well. He threw a Christmas party for the staff in the restaurant, over half of the staff was high school students, and provided alcohol for the party and encouraged everyone to partake, I ended up getting so drunk I became incapacitated and he and a coworker had to carry me out and then take me home. Needless to say my mother wasn’t thrilled to see two strange guys having to carry me upstairs to bed that night. Lol

I also have hd sometimes I have trouble concentrating (wich I thankfully no longer take meds for) but I also have insomnia I will go two days withought sleep then crash and wake up in the afternoon if I don’t take my meds it’s currently 9:47 pm and I woke up at around 5:45 am this morning and I am not tired plus it’s not like I have things like energy drinks or anything special like that I might have a soft drink (Soda for Americans) but that’s it and here I am still playing ARK at this time at night a few last thing sometimes I’ll put things down go out the room come back and be like where the F did you go? OP isn't an asshole, be wouldn't be using the heater if she wasn't there. She's the reason the bill is increased because she is the one who wants to run the heater constantly. I think i have adhd (no diagnosis but i have the no concentration, no will to do anything, complacency, afraid of new things down pat), but I force myself past all that. It's called growing up. Story 2 op is the jerk but in the sense of there isnt any context whether hes leaving the home at a constant 50 degrees or lower, or if its sitting at a comfortable temp of 60+ *granted I get cold anything lower than 60 though obviously preference has to be noted* if its sitting at a regular temperature, op's gf just needs to put on better winter clothing, if lower than op just needs to learn to compromise with the temperature and talk about what else should be changed and what works.
