I used to drive my Ford Fiesta around Yorkshire waiting for this record to come on the radio so I could sing my head off 😂😂😂😂 80s the best... hold me now....
I saw them on this tour at Boston Common with Berlin opening. I always loved how exotic they looked and sounded. What an incredibly musically rich era the 80’s were.
My dad took me, and my best girlfriends, to see the Thompson Twins on this tour. I was 15, in junior high, and my friends’ and my parents took turns driving and chaperoning us, and it was our turn. Dad was and is an old school rock and blues fan, and I didn’t know if he would like them or not; in fact, I was almost certain he wouldn’t like them. I was totally wrong. We had a blast (total 80s lingo there). The whole arena was on its feet the whole time. We danced our asses off, and my dad still talks about that show. You can see how infectious their energy was. It’s still fun to watch them after all these years.
Wow! This is amazing! Thompson Twins was the very first concert I ever saw. Radio City Music Hall in 1984. Berlin opened for them. I was hooked and was a big fan of TT. Thank you for posting this!

the keyboards towards the end of love on your side is my favorite; added a little something to the song by caralinda and roger. also love mark hayward chaplin's bass

Saw this concert in Wembley Arena while stationed in the UK from 82-85.....it remains one of the best concerts I have ever seen! The set in London was different....giant colored balls of various sizes suspended around the stage....it was fantastic!
I loved the Thompson Twins but never went to any of their concerts;( Madly in love with Tom Bailey! The music style, lyrics, and melody just awesome. Lucky people that went to their concerts. But at least I can see some on CZcams 😊
This show, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, was the first concert I ever attended. Ahh, the memories. Thank you for posting. My VHS copy is up in the attic somewhere rotting away.
Awwwsum! I love the nostalgia of this video! Truely am an 80s inspired baby from 1985! My momma was jamming 80s music... She's gone now mbut I treasure those memories 4ever!
I saw them also with Berlin opening...at Radio City Music Hall in NYC...August 30th, 1984. The best concert I ever attended in terms of pure energy and great music. The Thompson Twins brought it and this concert above is bringing that night all back! Thank you so much for uploading this. Love the Twins!
There was so much great music coming out of Britain in the 80s. The best way I can explain it is the Thompson Twins. They wrote quality pop tunes that ordinarily would have made them the biggest band in the World at the time, but they weren't the most successful commercially simply because of the competition. Smart, well written, excellently produced pop that is woefully not as respected as it should be.
Matthew was a fantastic bassist, but not in the band past 1982, before the TT's success. The bassist you hear here is Mark Heyward-Chaplin. You can see him plenty, even giving some enthusiastic tambourine action during "In The Name Of Love".
two of my favorite personal concert events. '84 with Berlin opening. '85 with the incomparable OMD opening. Both at the Fox theater in STL. danced our young asses off.
My worlds are colliding. I saw the Thompson Twins in 1985 in Melbourne. Future Days tour. I was 10. I had the double cassette with all the B-Sides and remixes. Still have the vinyl tucked away somewhere.
I’m sitting on my couch on a random Tuesday evening, and I have only just realized that the familiar looking man I saw on Marylebone High Street on Sunday morning was none other than Mr. Bailey 😂. He’s got white hair and glasses now, but he still looks pretty cool 😎 Just a quick little edit to add that I really don’t know why on earth the algorithm recommended this to me, but it’s definitely enjoyable
One of the most underrated Bands of the 80's. Denigrated even by themselves. Beautifully crafted songs if you discount 'Doctor Doctor' and 'We Are Detective'.
Although much maligned, I always admired Tom Bailey's music. Alannah and especially Joe are somewhat cosmetic, (Can't hear any evidence that his synthesizer is even plugged in). Knew them as a seven piece back in London. Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Tom was 100 % responsible for the music and melodies.Tons of interviews with the other two has proven that. Still, the words must be there to fulfill a song.
I don't think I've ever seen another three-piece band in which two of the three members are percussionists (neither of them using a conventional pop/rock drumkit).
@@dietertrattmann1046 Thank you for clearing that up! By the way, any idea if this could ever get an upgrade one of these days? Or are the elements long gone?
Going by other interviews I've seen, they just weren't really into being pop/rock stars and they were bored by it all. One would have thought the reaction they got from live audiences and fans outside whilst on tour etc, would have made up for all the bad interviews etc. Seems not, plus I've heard them say that they didn't want to end up a boring old rock band on stage. I doubt that would have happened with all the material they have that most people hadn't heard. Strange how back in the '80s some media thought so literally and wondered why on earth they were called The Thompson Twins, when there were three of them and none of them were related. They didn't get the irony of it all and made a big deal of it at the time.
The Oberheim was used for all the bass parts on "Quick Step and Side Kick" and "Into the Gap". Tom Bailey mentioned this in an issue of "Keyboard" magazine, that other musicians and producers would ask him who played bass on the albums because they wanted to hire them. TT did use a live bassist for the tours, here it's Mark Heyward Chaplin, who played bass for Lene Lovich, Kim Wilde and Thomas Dolby.
I was really looking forward to seeing this concert in Christchurch (New Zealand), but it got rained off twice, and I never did get to see them live. :-(
It was so disappointing to see him “fake playing” that Prophet T8 in the video. He just danced around and randomly “played”. That was sad. He deserved better than that on the tour.
So which of them kept moving too near their monitor & getting feedback during The Gap? Tom or Alana it looks like. Who was the other synth player on the left of stage?
When I saw them in 1987 it was Alannah's bracelet getting too close to the microphone that kept causing feedback. I was on the front row so she winked at me when our eyes locked and we both realized her bracelet was the culprit.
What an incredibly musically rich era the 80’s were.
that was my 1st concert ever. I was way in the back, Boston '84 :-)
My dad took me, and my best girlfriends, to see the Thompson Twins on this tour. I was 15, in junior high, and my friends’ and my parents took turns driving and chaperoning us, and it was our turn. The Into the Gap vinyl saved my life back in 1984. ✨💖
I thankfully still have a mint copy. 🙏
Not a stupid mobile phone in sight..
Great days P
Being in the moment remains priceless.
I was at the show! I still have the ticket stub.
Your very lucky, bet you thought that it would all last forever? maybe its just me lol miss those times. cheers
my favourite band and so talented playing loads of different instruments and nice to hear a xylophone not many bands use that
Wow! This is amazing! Thompson Twins was the very first concert I ever saw. Radio City Music Hall in 1984. Berlin opened for them. I was hooked and was a big fan of TT. Thank you for posting this!
Jay Cho i was there too. Went to see Berlin, but TT became my fave afterwards. At least until i saw U2 at Nassau Coliseum in April of 85...
@@Mo_Ketchups For sure! You never forget your first concert. I love Rush! Saw them at Meadowlands in the late 80s. Miss them.
There's no doubt about it!!!
I had this video and played it to death - I was totally in love with Tom Bailey in my teens. Thanks for sharing - brings back great memories...

Thompson Twins was the only poster of a group I ever hung up in my room.
watching this takes me back to that time so profoundly.
I have a picture pinned to my wall.....
wow, they were a great live band. awesome bass player and drummer. And the vocals are spot in pre-in-ear monitors.
That's Mark Heyward-Chaplin on bass, who played with Thomas Dolby and Lene Lovich. The drummer is Boris Bransby-Williams, who left the Thompson Twins live band in 1984 to join The Cure.

Saw them twice back in the day -- great shows.
So pleased to have found this! I used to have the VHS many, many years ago. Thanks for posting!
I loved the Thompson Twins but never went to any of their concerts;(

Had this on VHS as a teenager :)

I saw them in Las Vegas, when I was 14 I think 1985. It was my first concert, too
Awwwsum! I love the nostalgia of this video! Truely am an 80s inspired baby from 1985! My momma was jamming 80s music... She's gone now mbut I treasure those memories 4ever!

Brings back so many memories for me!
Thank you for posting this amazing concert footage. I love Tom Bailey and TTwins. PLEASE can we get this remastered on DVD?!!!
Brings back great memories. Thanks for uploading this.

Saw this tour. Was AWESOME!!!🎵🎼💕

Compared to the Americans, The British had more bands and better music on that decade.
I saw them in 1985 and recently had the pleasure of seeing Tom Bailey preform again. It was so wonderful.
Saw Tom Bailey live as well, I hope he does it more often.
He has a new single called "Come so Far" out in a few weeks and a new album to follow. Then he is planning a tour.
Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to him announcing some dates. Thanks!
He is headlining an "80's Weekend" in L.A. on August 13th if you are in the U.S.
+Glenn Lennox I'm in the Midwestern USA sadly:(
Wow, awesome. I didn't even know this existed.
RIP Mathew Seligman, not once shown, but his dead on bass lines can always be heard!
Matthew was a fantastic bassist, but not in the band past 1982, before the TT's success. The bassist you hear here is Mark Heyward-Chaplin. You can see him plenty, even giving some enthusiastic tambourine action during "In The Name Of Love".

Thompson Twins/Tom Bailey coming to town June 25th❤ Got my tickets 😊

I wish i was alive to see this atleast i met him last year 😁
What a treat thank you so much for posting this. I love TT one of my favorite bands of all time
increíble concierto!!!
Got to them live. Cedar Rapids Iowa.
So good. Loved 'em, especially Side Kicks, favorite album from the '80s
Wonderful! Saw the concert and have the VHS so happy to see this again.
really enjoyed seeing them live- 1984-hollywood bowl, and ct. in the 90's.

Good times!
Thompson Twins, Boris Wiliams and Roger O'Donnell!!!
My worlds are colliding. I saw the Thompson Twins in 1985 in Melbourne. Future Days tour. I was 10. I had the double cassette with all the B-Sides and remixes. Still have the vinyl tucked away somewhere.
While everyone wants to be younger...I wouldnt trade growing up in the 1980's FOR ANYTHING!
Wow, have this on VHS. Haven't been able to watch it so very long. Thank you ever so much for sharing and posting :-)
I was there with a buddy. I heard it was great if you were trippin'...
I was like "That's the best concert I've ever seen!"

Thompson twins is a good band !!!
Such a big hit here in the Philippines!
Great band thanks for the up load.
One of my first concerts as a kid was the TT and Berlin during this tour :)
Excellent.
Great 80's band..

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS..THANK YOU.. LOVE IT !
One of the most underrated Bands of the 80's. Denigrated even by themselves. Beautifully crafted songs if you discount 'Doctor Doctor' and 'We Are Detective'.
Doctor doctor is catchy
DD is my fave song…lol…..and I love the best of the 80s…DD, TT, DM, NO, PSB, TT, TFF, U2, Fixx, PF….etc….what an era to live in…..we were blessed!
Two classic songs that 99% of everyone in the world loves. You are the 1%. 😅😅
i saw them twice in 84
Although much maligned, I always admired Tom Bailey's music. Alannah and especially Joe are somewhat cosmetic, (Can't hear any evidence that his synthesizer is even plugged in). Knew them as a seven piece back in London. Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Yes. It is probably not plugged in. Looks funny the way he plays it.
Joe was in Charge for the Performance and stuff like that and alannah was in Charge for their looks. I think she also wrote Most of the Songs
Tom was 100 % responsible for the music and melodies.Tons of interviews with the other two has proven that. Still, the words must be there to fulfill a song.
Cool, thanks Matt!
My sister saw that tour
I don't think I've ever seen another three-piece band in which two of the three members are percussionists (neither of them using a conventional pop/rock drumkit).
Love the Thompson Twins, but not a fan of famous people crying in interviews about how hard it is to be famous.(Alannah)
It was a joke...!!
@@dietertrattmann1046 Thank you for clearing that up! By the way, any idea if this could ever get an upgrade one of these days? Or are the elements long gone?

Yet they made the concert look like a party.
Love the sound and lines of the bass. Always been a bit of a mystery if synth or not....
They used a lot of synth bass on the albums. I'm pretty sure they used an Oberheim on Hold Me Now, at least that's what I've heard.

wow, the Oakland coliseum!
I was really looking forward to seeing this concert in Christchurch (New Zealand), but it got rained off twice, and I never did get to see them live. :-(
I really wish this was on cd
Edit: or atleast a download or something
Nice work
Nice
Great.
240p in 2019, that hurts.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ it's from 1984
I think Joe Leeway should have his own Documentary about his life and where he is now .
It was so disappointing to see him “fake playing” that Prophet T8 in the video. He just danced around and randomly “played”. That was sad. He deserved better than that on the tour.
Tom Bailey & Steve Jansen(Japan) really do look ALIKE.
55:20 Whoa...I didn't realize any Thompson Twins songs had the F-word in them.
This is Thompson Tap
So which of them kept moving too near their monitor & getting feedback during The Gap? Tom or Alana it looks like. Who was the other synth player on the left of stage?
When I saw them in 1987 it was Alannah's bracelet getting too close to the microphone that kept causing feedback. I was on the front row so she winked at me when our eyes locked and we both realized her bracelet was the culprit.
I was disappointed they didn’t bring into the gap out as a single. They brought sister of mercy out instead.
Considering the trio was only together 4 years, that's a ridiculous amount of complaining for a US tour.
Anyone got a set list ?
Oh, I amost forgot to ask..."Well, how long have you been together, and where did you get the name from ??"
LA LA LA LA LA. What a cool groove!!!!! What the song name ???
Уважуха.
WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL THOMPSON TWINS COMPLAIN-A-THON! LOL gee-whiz it's only five minutes in and they put the bit with Allanah Currie crying
I have no idea what you're talking about, but it's brilliant
+Missy Sprayberry threatening britney haters lol you had your work cut out then.
wtf, how did i never see this??!!?! i swear the algorithms have been jacked ever since google skullfucked youtube..
