  • I share the unboxing and first look at my latest custom order from Carmina Shoemaker. This is model 80440, the Pina lasted moc toe penny loafer in a tan Peccary leather. I’ve always loved the look of the classic Alden LHS, or CJ Harvard, but I’m not a huge Alden or CJ guy. So it was a natural choice to get this through Carmina.

    The Peccary leather is one of my favorite skins other than shell cordovan. It’s such a durable, resilient, yet supple and easy wearing leather. Here’s the description from Carmina, www.carminasho...

    These are beautiful.

    This is a perfect loafer, love this and I didn’t know Carmina used peccary. Should I consider sizing down 1/2 due to it being a loafer, and that peccary stretches?
    Also, how do you find the pina last relative to other C lasts?

      The pins last is pretty confusing lol. It looks like it would run tts or generous but quite the opposite. I went tts and it’s very snug fitting. So it should be about perfect after broken in, but we’ll have to wait and see 😁

      @@Shellvedge hi i’m also looking at this last and this model. Did you take it TTS compared to your other Carmina models ? I am a 7.5UK in most Carmina lasts. Unfortunately they don’t have any Pina model in my size in stock to try out.

      @@bachpham5357 I’d size up by half size. It’s very unforgiving.

      @@Shellvedge Just want to comment that I got the Pina in 7.5 in rusticalf and I can confirm that it's very snug if you take the same size as other lasts (I'm a 7.5 Inca). I can wear these sockless comfortably with no heel lift whatsoever. The weird thing is it's very tight around the instep right above the nerve connecting the 4th toe so if that area of the foot is slightly raised compared to the last, you can feel a jolt in that toe when you walk (happens on my left foot which has a slightly bulkier instep than my right foot). I plan on breaking in these with a very thin pair of dress socks. Personally I would not take half a size up since then I'd have massive heel lift.

    Great video. How much more does peccary cost over regular leather?

      Thanks man. Depends on the maker; but carmina is about the same as their cordovan shoes

    does this type of leather hide crease well or amplify it?

    • @Shellvedge
      @Shellvedge  Před 2 lety

      I guess it does. It definitely creases but it blends in a little with the natural texture of the hide.

    Whats your view on the general quality of Carmina compared to other makers?

    • @Shellvedge
      @Shellvedge  Před 2 lety

      Kind of a broad question, but for the $450-$1000 calf/shell gyw price point, I think they’re hard to beat. I only wear shoes from makers I truly want to support and carmina is one I have a number of pairs from. So I think it’s pretty good

      @@tjjohnson6772 thank you. I’m afraid I’m not going to be much help or have much to add to that topic. I’ve never really delved into the vintage options. I’d say meccariello, acme & carmina are probably the 3 makers that come to mind
