Dear Maestro Akarcón and dear watchers: Ancient pronunciation of Latin has been intensely studied by Classic Philology, established upon ancient and medieval authors and documents and it is taught at universities in Europe and around the world. On this so called classical pronunciation, for instance the Latin c, is pronounced like k, and ae like ai in Italian and Spanish. But the most used and extended pronunciation of Latin in musical works is the so called Italian, a little different to the former, but a good and beautiful pronunciation that additionally allows a good understanding of singing texts. By contrast, most of French conductors (not all fortunately), using an exaggerated chauvinism, have adopted French pronunciation of Latin on musical works by French composers from XVI to XVIII centuries, because supposedly that was the pronunciation in France on this period. Possibly so it was, but anyways it is an ugly pronunciation. And I am not alone, there are many expert music friends around the world who loathe this strange mispronunciation. French is a beautiful language, I like hearing and reading it, but can not endure singing Latin as if it were French. The Spanish musical magazine Scherzo, commenting some recording, warned the readers: French pronunciation of Latin.
