I am a veterinary assistant, and believe it or not, I have had a needle stick injury. Quite honestly, it happens because of carelessness. When it happened to me, I was attempting to remove the needle (to toss it in the sharps container), when the needle got stuck, and wouldn't rotate off, like it was supposed to. So, rather than asking for assistance, I fiddled with it, and ended up accidentally pulling the cap off of it, and jabbing myself in my index finger. It happens, however it is far more serious in human medicine, than in veterinary medicine.

i still dont get how this happens. does it just mean you poked yourself with a needle, because you tried to recap it, or does it somehow get stuck and unexpectedly malfunction? im not a nurse im just curious

Ecstatik Dopium yes it happens when u to resheath the needle, always use one hand scoop technique to avoid needle stick injuries. Dont follow wrong practice.

The fact that they included HIV and AIDS in this, this makes getting stabbed by a needle stick even scarier

@@eckto3 i work for a council in Scotland, if you report needle stick injuries or needles you create work for the boss and cost the council money. If I want to keep my job I keep my mouth shut.. breach H&S on a daily basis. Including COVID-19, No masks woren, no track and trace, and 3 to a van.
