---------ABOUT THE VIDEO---------
This video was originally uploaded to our other channel, Casual Navigation, back in 2018.
"Direction of Buoyage" is the latest video in the new "Buoyage in Depth" series.
Direction of buoyage is an important part of navigating at sea because it tells you on which side you need to leave lateral marks to remain in safe water.
I will walk you through different ways to determine direction of buoyage, showing you how to read it from a chart and explaining the concept of direction around continental land masses and direction into ports.

I'm studying so I can take my exam and your videos are amazing... honestly a game changer to understanding these rules.. thank you so much
dude, this has been super bloody helpful. Thanks a million
Excellent explanation as always
Thanks a lot
I know this is a reupload from the main channel, but it would be nice to point out that red and green buoys are swapped depending where you are in the world (regions A or B). It would be nice to also see a video showing why things are this way today and not totally standardized
And of course reversed whether you are heading into or out of a harbour or port .. heading out it is reversed also ... port to starboard
Curious that is. I can’t speak for anywhere else but routes going inland or away from the ocean the stbd buoy is red. We use “Red, Right, Returning” to memorize it.... or I guess another way to put it is the direction of buoyage is out to sea. Edit: Here is in the Salish Sea.
You are using IALA Region A or B rules ?
In region B which side i will keep the preferred channel to port and stbd buoys??
❤
What is the difference between general direction of bouyage system and Local direction of voyage system
what is local buoyage and general buoyage ?
