    This is the best CZcams channel I’ve seen for getting and education on rv’s; options, what to look for, operations, things to avoid, etc. When I do finally purchase a rv, it will be because of these videos and what I learned from them. Also, Josh is a fantastic host with the knowledge I trust.

    There are dealers with salespeople; and then there's Haylett RV, where you'll find someone like Josh.
    The difference?
    A dealer with salespeople will sell you an RV, while Haylett RV knows that customer satisfaction isn't just a good price on an RV sale.
    Years ago, John Cleese (of Monty Python fame) was recognized for a series of customer service training videos. I think that Josh should be similarly recognized for all the information that he provides. There's no doubt that this CZcams channel brings in more customers, based solely on his efforts! Josh is for real! The man tells it like it is; and while he acknowledges that there are some less scrupulous dealers and salespeople out there, he does point fingers... doesn't slag any products... he just gives the flipside to each coin. That's an excellent character trait; and it's rare to find in most salespeople.

      No. The Screwtape Letters was written by C.S. Lewis; and John merely narrated the audiobook format.
      After Fawlty Towers, he was recognized for excellence in communication via body language; and shortly afterward he was asked to put together Customer Service training videos (I believe it was for a bank). Those videos ended up being used by more than the original client.

We weren’t even planning to buy when we went in but the experience was incredible and we were sold that day. Thank you! You’ve created some amazing experiences for our family. They wouldn’t have been so memorable without the RV you sold us on.

    It's refreshing to know there is at least one dealership who cares more about the customers safety than the sales. One thing to note, not all bunk house models would be useless once the kids are gone. A midbunk can be converted to an office or workshop or just about anything, mancave, sheshed. That is my plan with the one I just got. Once the kids are done, I have a place to relax once I retire. Keep up the great videos. Does a bear s*** in the woods? No it wants to use your RV toilet! LOL

    • @jml7916
      @jml7916 Před 3 lety +1

      We bought a bunk house TT for the storage, place for the dogs and a spare bed for when I snore. The kids use it now but we decided on the bunkhouse before kids. If you don’t have a 5er, nothing has the storage or carrying capacity of a no slide bunk house around 27-28’. 7600 lb gross, 4800lb empty. That’s a lot of stuff and well within the tow rating of most half tons.

  • @enginebae3471

    So glad you pointed out 5th wheel hitch weight and putting horse before the cart. I have a large 5th wheel but I also have a dodge 3500 pulling it. I went with my buddy to help him pick out a camper. He has a half ton pickup. The sales guy immediately started pushing him toward the more expensive 5th wheels. I said you saw what he is driving why would you push these. He said “it’s no big deal, just throw some air bags on it.” We left right after that and went somewhere else.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  Před 4 lety +1

      Glad you appreciate it. We don't sell near the number of fifth wheels as a bunch of places as a result, but I also know we aren't putting people in danger either.
      Had a client send me a screen shot of a text chat with the "Internet Sales Manager" at a facility I won't name in which he expressed concerns regarding his truck's payload of 1,800lbs vs. the hitch weight of 2,420lbs on the FW they were being advised to purchase by the sales agent.
      The "Internet Sales Manager" suddenly advises "1,800lbs is just the cab payload. The bed has a payload of 4,280lbs on that truck."
      We're still not sure where he came up with that number. It's very concerning as thankfully our client was smart enough to know the difference, but many people would not know to be concerned with that response.

    This was a great video. I want to tell anyone who is new to RV-ing that what he said is the absolute 100% truth. Travel trailers and 5th wheels are all built the same. They’re all going to have things break--new OR used as they’re all rolling earthquakes. Only when you get to DRV’s or Luxe’s will you find differences (some in the build process but mostly in the types of wood used in the cabinetry and aesthetic things like that). Or small company RV’s like Oliver which are all fiberglass bodies. But you’ll pay MUCH more for those. Well done Josh. An honest sales person.

    Josh, your videos are THE best! As you run low on inventory, how about more “perspective” videos like this one? Or, when you can squeeze in the time, how about taking us on a factory tour of the brands with best build quality? Explain (on the factory floor) their differentiators in terms of the manufacturing process. You have more street cred than the Manufacturer blowing their own horn. Also, show us examples of low quality that you don’t like to see and recommend avoiding (like your residential fridge rant). We value YOUR experience, perspective & opinions.

    I agree on the whole 4 season thing. The big mistake I see and have done myself is thinking a 15,000 BTU air conditioner in florida is going to keep any trailer over 25 feet, even without slides, is going to keep it cool. A lot of dealers in florida will tell you it's all you need. Its not until its 95 and high humidity and sunny when you discover it's not. My trailer weighs 8600lbs dry, 960 tongue weight, dealer said it was 1/2 truck towable, I laughed and said only if you change the engine, transmission, brakes, tires, and suspension. Love your channel, keep up the great information!

    • @jml7916
      @jml7916 Před 3 lety +1

      Next biggest misnomer in RV is “Half Ton Towable” and the truck makers don’t help. A Chevy Custom with max tow and 6.2L or an F150 with max tow and heavy load package can tow your trailer. But both have heavier axles, heavier rear suspension, LT tires and in the case of the ford, 7 bolt wheels. These are special order half tons that blur the lines with 3/4 ton trucks. I shake my head at both parties.

  • @terrysanders9135

    Sorry don't know what happened missing rest.
    So salesman just ordered what I wanted . 1 ton Ford Van custom interior of the times and special ordered rear differential and tires. I was a 25 yo female and was treated first time as if I didn't know what I was talking about . The van was wonderful what a way to travel barely knew the trailer was back there. I have retired now and will be seeing you when I sell my house. Take care and thanks again for all the videos

    Great points on tow vehicles. Everyone needs to learn what their payload capacity is (on a sticker on the drivers door jam usually) , the GVWR (same spot), their GCWR and max trailer. Keep them with In specs as Josh is stating. The 80% rule of thumb is pretty common.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  Před 4 lety +5

      TY. I really try to stress the idea of it being an "80% guide" as it can be scaled up/down as needed. I originally called it an "80% rule" and found a lot of folks got kind of hung up on the semantics of the word choices.

Our little forest river wolf pup 16 fq is only 3200 lbs and towed by a 1/2 ton Nissan frontier rated at 6400 lbs towing. It really does struggle at times even though I'm only 50% of its rating. Not only the weight parameters are important but also the shape, aerodynamics and the gear ratio of your transmission are important. I've heard the newer 8 speed automatic transmission would have given me better performance than my current 5 speed transmission.

    Wish I lived nearby. Josh, I like the way you explain things that are down to earth and easy to understand. I live in Tucson and I did get my towable and it was 2018 Keystone Outback 266RB. The main reason I got it was the full rear bath. My opinion the largest rear bath of any towable on the market. Too bad Keystone no longer markets this model. I upgrade my truck to a 2018 RAM 2500, 3/4 ton so I knew that I was in my weight window. The dealer here was good, not great, but like I said, if I lived near you dealership, yes, by all means I would have purchased from your dealership.

    Josh, your forgot a HUGE factor.. the configuration of the main bed.. our first TT had only a jacknife sofa at the front and "big/little" bunks at the back, plus the dinette.. after realizing that meant crawling into what we came to call "the sleeping nest" and that the one of us sleeping on the inside against the wall was basically locked in for the night, we went to a front walkaround bed.. we're now on our third 25', no-slide, front walkaround bed travel trailer

      I think that goes along with "how do you want the furniture arranged?" It's a very big part of that puzzle for sure

    Gosh Josh! No matter how much I think I know about RVs from watching so many videos, you _always_ manage to add to the body of knowledge. Thanks so much for the excellent content as usual. You make it look easy but I know it is not easy to produce such consistently informative and engaging content!

    I too have enjoyed all your videos for past 3 years. The at of camper and vehicle size ,differential etc is so important . A car salesman tried to tell me I didn't need what I wanted ,so I just got up and left and went to another dealer and that one just ordered what I wanted. I was a 25 yr old female in 1976 going to be towing my parents 1971 holiday rambler 25 foot. It pulled like a dream . I got a 1 ton Chevy decked out with fridge and chairs and back fold down sofa. What a way to travel at the time lol.
    Thxs so much for your informative videos. I have retired now and when the house is sold we be coming to see you.

    Thank you Josh. The RV "nerd" Thats extremely informative information you have given in this video. I must say that I wish your company was closer to the Canadian border. I live in Manitoba Canada and its not so much the long drive to Haylett Michigan that discourages my journey but more that myself and my wife have yet to get passports so crossing the border isn't an option just yet. I would so love to purchase my first travel trailer from you guys. The information and knowledge you have shows that Haylett really wants there customers business and feed back. Not to mention have as much as possible a pleasant experience buying a camper. Or learning about the different campers out there. And also to make sure the people buying them are safe while doing so along with other's out there camping. Honestly I'm not aware off hand of any RV dealer in Manitoba that has that same knowledge or commitment to there customers.
    Haylett Auto and RV sales, setting a standard for how customer service and support should be at all RV sales 👍.

      If you do travel with an RK, then DO NOT get a residential fridge. It simply won't hold up well back there long term.
