I have known Gen Brar when he was a Brigadier in the late seventies. At the time of this operation I was posted at Jallandhar. He is a thorough gentleman and a professional soldier. Inspite of his personal feelings at the time of the operation, he kept them aside and carried out the assigned operation with success notwithstanding the terms of reference imposed. It needs a lot of character and discipline to execute to a task like this. He is a true soldier for whom duty is above everything else. This task is a lot tougher than fighting an enemy equipped with all available weaponry.

It was Pakistan's interference & weapons across the border & political masters or power seekers of punjab who waged morcha against central govt & the reluctance of the then prime Minister to fulfill those demands then state terrorism. Also injustice to a very Capable General Shubeg Singh who was a man to be reckoned with 'Liberation of Bangla Desh '.Another factor was youth unrest which all lead to political crisis turned into religious fold .It could have been averted.

A soldier caught by the Karma,In Mahabharta the armies of Lord Krishna faught against Pandava and the lord himself who was against the Kauravas. This entire episode was unfortunate and more efforts should have been made to avert it.

This is how an interview should be. Two learned people talking calmly and not trying to put words in each other's mouth

An excellent interviewer. No shouting, no below the belt questions. A rare species found in India now a days.

I think making comments on this video is just a stupidity, we already had one partition in 1947 and millions were killed. Another one will cause more than that not only Sikhs but Hindu Brothers and Sisters. Please stop criticizing each other religions and start thinking how to encourage good and healthy relations.

I have read his book so was aware of the tactical aspect of the Operations, Gen Brar is a Soldier, his words come out as a Soldier asked to finish a task. Sometimes they are asked to clean the dirt created by the political class. It's easy for us to comment now but those were dark times.

Thanks for the interview. I grew up 250 meters from golden temple and lived through that time .I was 8 year old and remember all events crystal clear. I clearly remember in our street that shared wall with Goldent temple complex people rushing into their homes when Army started cordoning off the premises. I can say there was NO looting by Army at that time . Thank you for you service General Brar.

A very well done interview on an extremely sensitive subject.

I have read the book by the General Brar. And I have no doubts about his sincerity, loyalty and upholding his duty towards his country. Being Sikh, he along with 2 sikh battalions did what he was supposed or duty-bound to do for the safety of his nation. Don't forget Lt Gen RS Dayal also was the Sikh involved in this operation. Kudos and salute to Gen Brar. for doing his duty to the best of his abilities.
