Peter always destroys the product, gets everyone to either go out or make high offers and he then comes in with a reasonable offer in the end making him look good
He knew he was gonna invest in the company even while he was slagging off the product. This was purely to lowball the entrepreneurs and deman they give him more than 10x the equity they asked for. Kind of like deliberately finding something wrong with a car just to haggle him down to a price come negotiation time. Simple business acumen on a big scale by Peter. Smart move, good investment.

The valuation was not the only reason. She liked the product, but there was a lot of work needed to be done, and for what price? 2.5%
Dragons often berate the people coming into the Den who have pie in the sky valuations, and most of the time don't invest.
Usually Jenny gives some poor reasons for not investing, but this she gave some good reasons.

@@Locutus Jenny didnt invest on the grounds that there was a lot of work to do and it wasn't worth it for 2.5% of the business, so why not make a counter offer for a percentage that would make it worth her while? I'll tell you why, because shes no intention of investing in anything, ever, she just wants the publicity.

the dude's a manipulator for sure; but the encounters are also extremely edited even from moment to moment so there's no doubt it's much harder to notice when you're there in the den trying to deal.
To be fair, actual quality of the packaging etc. is a whole different thing from the branding. The brand is the idea of how you want to appear as a product and they nailed that. The naming and packaging however is part of the execution going south.
Peter is like a master poker player.
You strongly raise objections to see how the person reacts. This shows you how they will react in a sales situation to the customers objections.

They've now changed their name to UpCircle with their coffee scrubs and are doing so amazing. Saw them at a health and beauty trade show and they won a meeting to be stocked in Sainsbury's. Really happy for them!
I'm so pleased to hear that, I just loved this whole pitch and these 2 with their great pitch! The things like the quality of print and packaging are actually really easy to fix (Peter Jones knew that too lol) and I was thinking wow this is like a perfect investment - genuinely honest nice people, great concept, and we all know how important issues like waste and recycling, vegan products, etc are. Hope their success continues!! 😀
