  • What Do We Think?
Powered by a Lambertones Grinder humbucker pickup set hidden in plain sight under Jazzmaster covers, this thinline mahogany guitar is ready to take on just about anything.
You get warm neck tones with an airy bounce on one end and darker, meatier bridge tones on the other. And a WHOLE lot in between thanks to a 5-way toggle switch. The Mastery vibrato is a superb piece of hardware. Shelton has also built a bit of neck angle into the guitar, akin to a Gibson, giving your strings a better break angle over the bridge for more stability and better transfer of string resonance to the body.
Here’s a brief rundown of the various tones the 5-way switch gives you access to:
Position 1 - Bridge: This one has some serious punch! It is rich and robust, yet has superb articulation on the top end.
Position 2 - Bridge & Neck in Parallel: Your traditional “middle” position. It gives you a tight attack and perfect blend of neck and bridge contributions.
Position 3 - Neck: Warm and chewy on bottom, but superbly transparent in the midrange. This pickup is voiced sweet and open and balances very well with the bridge.
Position 4 - Bridge & Neck Single Coil in Parallel: Snappier version of “middle” position, without the standard single coil volume drop! Not quacky like a strat, yet very vibrant.
Position 5 - Bridge & Neck Single Coil in Series: This position will compress your amp almost like putting a boost pedal in front. Tones are powerful but remain dynamic.
In the cosmetics department, this guitar features an aged finish with some really cool nitro finish checking. Black bound top and natural back/sides. Mother of pearl block inlays on a perfect black ebony fretboard, with fretboard binding to match the body. It’s a classy looking piece!
