    Iafrate and Macinnis were the kings of the hardest shot competition for over a decade and did it with wooden sticks and unreal technique.

    Al Iafrate is insane. To shoot 105mph in this era is bonkers. Imagine him with the current stick technology!
    Also, how would you describe his hair?

    Did he say Mike Modano was only added because Stu Grimson couldn’t make it? 😂

    • @JonHop1
      @JonHop1 Před 9 měsíci +1

      This was Modano's rookie or second year.. Back then, they rarely even sent youngins to the All Star game. Also, Modano didnt havee his real breakout year til 91-92.. So he was still up and coming.. Pretty sure this is the 90-91 All Star Game as Modano had the A on his jersey.

    • @55Porter
      @55Porter Před 5 měsíci

      Stu Grimson could've been one of the real powerhouse offensive forces in the NHL but chose to sacrifice that to be an enforcer for his teammates since he was a great fighter. Most hockey historians recognize Grimson as one of the most talented offensive players to ever play the game.

    • @sergiocalcio9481
      @sergiocalcio9481 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@55Porter what in the hell are you talking about ???? By 1993 Modano played in 317 NHL regular season games ( since he started his first NHL season in 89/90 ) and scored 309 pts ( he was basically averaging 1 pt per game since his start in 89 / 90 ) . He also helped the Minnesota North Stars get to the 91 Stanley Cup Finals ( against Lemieux, Jagr and the Pens ) as the 2nd lowest seeded team going into those playoffs - from not only the Campbell Conference but also the second lowest NHL league wide ( as in all teams that still made the playoffs for only the Canucks that year had a worse record among ALL playoff teams going into the 91 playoffs ) after the Minnesota North Stars beat the first place ( as in entire league wide overall first place ) Chicago Blackhawks , then beat second place Blues ( as in second best entire league wide overall St Louis Blues ) and then in the third round beat the defending 1990 Stanley Cup Champions Edmonton Oilers with Messier - right before Messier would join the Rangers in Oct 1991 . It was on the back of Modano alone who jumped up his play in those 1991 playoffs that even made that a possibility when the Stars achieved their Cinderella run to the Finals losing to the Penguins . Modano would also go on to win the 1999 SC and make another appearance in 2000 against the Devils.
      561 goals , 813 assist for 1374 pts in 1499 NHL games for Modano .
      Where as with Stu freaking Grimson , what the hell did he ever achieve in his entire career prior to this date , both junior and senior , which ever indicated as much to you about what you just said here ??? Stu Grimson was chosen in the draft 186th overall …..Mike Modano was chosen - first overall .
      Again please describe to me in detail what are you making your , rather poor , judgement from ?
      I hope this was a troll post from you to the other person you were replying to . Though it seemed you made it seriously as there is nothing to suggest you were being funny or sarcastic???

    • @sergiocalcio9481
      @sergiocalcio9481 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@JonHop1 no it wasn’t Modano’s rookie or second year . Modano had played in both his first and full season by 89 / 90 . Thus by 92 / 93 it would be his 4th season here . Also by the end of this year in the 92 / 93 season he had scored 309pts in 317 NHL games while also helping the North Stars getting to a SC final in 1991 - mind you as the second lowest seeded team league wide in 1991 . As far as rookies rarely making the all star game , well , tell that to Teemu Selanne who scored 76 goals, 56 assists for 132 pts in his first year also in 92 / 93 - who was chosen for the honor . Along with a whole host of other rookies to be selected for the honor . Like I don’t know , Owen Nolan , Alexander Mogilny , Gary Roberts , etc . What are you talking about ? The only reason why Grimson was selected here at this time was because at this time in the NHL the All Stars coaches ( from their own NHL teams ) got to select the players ( from their team ) going to the All Star game ( todays it’s the fans and the players association or some other board ) and there were some coaches who did this as a middle finger to the league to show their discontent for what they viewed as a meaningless game where their stars could potentially suffer an injury . This is exactly why Bruins head coach Mike Milbury ( who represented the coach for the Wales Conference All Stars ) famously chose Chris “ knuckles “ Nilan to represent the Bruins along with Brian Skrudland over Cam Neely and Ray Bourque ( though both Neely and Bourque would still go as Nilan and Skrudland were injured ) . Obviously things have changed a bit since then.

    • @sergiocalcio9481
      @sergiocalcio9481 Před 2 měsíci

      Hell to the no . There are various videos and articles by expertise hockey analysts who explained how this stupid myth started . Bobby Hull certainly had a hard shot but it was nowhere in the range of 120mph . Experts have put his shot at 95 mph - best . Not too bad considering the technology at the time . By 1993 even though many players still played with wooden sticks they had become fiberglass laminated ( at key points and areas ) along with other added technologies that were instrumented to produce better quality wooden sticks over those 60s wooden sticks. Much much better over the lumbar those guys in the 60s played with. The wooden sticks by the 90s had become lighter and stronger . Today it’s one piece carbon composite sticks that have finally supplanted the classic wooden stick . Who knows what it will be in another 20 years from now ? Alien technology perhaps ? You never know.
