It has been a lifetime since Bandai never made a Varan toy at all, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH

Unbelievably a Bruhdai Moment. Great sculpt but little paint. But it's still unbelievable that Varan was able to make it this far to finally have a vinyl figure in mms. He is also so unbelievably cute!
A Bruhdai moment indeed. Had that detail not been so damn 4K it would’ve been a bigger Bruhdai moment lol glad there was more give and than take when it came to ol ‘Baran’. I’d take a wild repaint of this mold any-day!
I would love for them to make a figure of Varan standing on his two hind legs, like with the Showa Baragon figure

Yo Rob! As someone who participated in a godzilla stream where we (the fans) screamed for Varan and to gain a victory is awesome! Varan is finally gets the love it deserves. Yes, the paint is mixed at best considering it's a store exclusive, the details on this toy is fantastic! Not one part is devoid of detail and i welcome it! Also this is a surprising big boi when compared to the other toys. So yeah despite the lack of paint, i still really like this figure and i don't regret getting it, especially that i refuse to pay premium price for the other varans, like yikes!!! Great review!!!!

His paint aside, I'd say he's worth the price of admission based on Detail and Size alone, for sure!
Im always just gonna want more from the series lol But I really should communicate more how much I appreciate that Toho and Bandai are finally giving some long deserved
reps to monsters who either never had it or only had a figure or two. It's truly a great time to be a collector!

Now I kinda actually really like the figure now that you shove the details of the sculpt up the camera, the flying squirrel esque flying skin that folds around his limbs and the the bumpy looking face looks exactly like how Varan should look (always been a fan of Varan's design).
It would be a great figure if it actually got the paint job it deserves though.
Very much a better figure once it's in hand! But still, I don't get whats so hard about at LEAST finishing off the tails these days.
We know they can do it.. they've done it wayyyy back in the day and not too long ago.. WITH A WIDE RELEASE.
Why's the paint such a 50/50 tear these days?
Varan deserved better.
But now it makes me wonder what the next batch will be looking like.

Despite all my harping about paint, i agree, the Showa Love is so severely appreciated after nothing but Heisei and Millennium reps so frequently.
Hopefully Bandai and Toho can keep it up! People love the Showa Era, no need to be so guarded with it!

The paint really doesn't bother me except for the tail. I can't rationalize not painting it all the way down no matter how hard I try.
The only rationalization is just that Bandai doesn’t really care. Can’t tell me the machines or whatever paints them doesn’t go all the way back to paint the whole tail lol
I gotta quit sitting down with a nice bowl of cereal before I start watching these things. Seriously, I just had a near fatal milk drowning when Rob compaired this to a piece of fried chicken!

But, I guess that's just Bandai today. Amazes me everytime that we paid less for more back in the day.

Yeah, even with the lack thereof paint, I can't bring myself to not buy this one, cause I mean how many varans do you see in the 6-7 inch scale at all? Especially with an unfortunate lack of decent and affordable figures for the poor guy.
He’s a rare guy to come across it seems. This is absolutely the best option out there right now. And with Godzilla Store’s Buyee Extension… it’s a no brained! Shipping might be a kick in the organs, but it’s better than selling organs!

He’s a lot bigger than I thought! Looks like he scales well with the 8 inch line as well. I like to mix them up so I can’t complain!
I do think an NES-styled repaint would be cool though, with the layered purple. That brown doesn’t really do it for me 😅

Dunno if he’s one of my favorites, but damn did he surprise me! I’m glad he got his time to shine, hope he’ll have more time to shine soon!
I've also heard a rumour about the PS3/PS4 Godzilla vs game, where they used Sh monster arts as there base models, next year it will be the year of Jet jaguar and megalon, so there's a pretty big chance of getting a showa JJ articulated figure.
Hopefully we start getting more Varan merch by late 2023 - early 2024 since next year is the 65th anniversary of the original film. I definitely want an SHMA Varan right now though

OMG OMG OMG OMG Haven't seen an official announcement or news story yet, but Showcase Daikaiju has February 2023 Bandai Movie Monster Series pre-orders up for Ebirah, Manda (2004 Style), Baragon (1965 style), Hedorah 2004. And new versions of Mechagodzilla (1993), King Ghidorah (1991), and Godzilla (2004). I wonder if HLJ will be carrying these? I've ordered from them before but I've never ordered from Showcase Daikaiju. I don't see Varan on HLJ though.
All of those will be carried by HLJ as they are publically revealed and such. Showcase and Awesome collector usually get their listings up early. Showcase is very good with their services, and have a pretty wicked fast response rate, so you'll be okay if you end up ordering from them! Varan on the other hand is exclusive to the Godzilla Store, so sites like HLJ or BBTS wont receive them. But Showcase Daikaiju, Awesome Collector and Amok Time Toys usually have order slots of the G-Store exclusive stuff, as they order from the Godzilla themselves. I can speak highly on Amoke Time Toys, as I've ordered from them before as well, not yet dealt with Awesome Collector personally though.

Ive tried my hardest to be bothered by the lack of paint here, but when it comes down to it Im just...not. Is it objectively inadequate? Sure. But when it comes down to my personal taste, as well as looking at references of Varan, yeah, he really is just one color. A wash would've been nice, but if Im not going to be bothered by figures like Ultima, which is similarly solid in color, then Im not going to be bothered by Varan here. IDK, Im just perfectly ok with it.

I heard there may’ve been some ‘manipulating’ involved while the polls were open through the app. But who knows. MG93 is getting a new figure next year, and that’s a start! Until then, Varan is pretty good!

Why does Bandai never paint the tail spikes?
I'm not sure why... with how frequent it is, it really makes you wonder whats so damn hard about going all the way through the tail and back.
Honestly it is a good figure but now a days mms and Bandai just cut corners went it comes to paint which is disappointing.
It is disappointing.. especially considering the early 2000’s figures were bigger, had more paint and were much cheaper. But, take what we can get at this point. Sometimes they surprise lol

First.
I just wish the paint quality for the MMS matched the sculpt quality. For such plain figures I can never justify the purchase unless it’s a crazy variant like the Hedorahs.
