      I've done 120hours of full fasting twice, with others and had great results, with limited protein lost. The protein breakdown is actually limited because your body shifts over almost totally to fat after 72hrs or so. (Tim ferries also documented this and many others). Would be awesome if u guys did your review more deeply and share the details, including the hunger hormone, how long u can live possibly if u ate nothing (depending on fat storage, like the Scotsman who ate nothing for 364 days except water and vitamins)

    • @tadbubs
      @tadbubs Před 6 lety +11

      Correct! Protein breakdown only happens under certain circumstances and pre-existing conditions (it depends on the individual). Its important to also note hormone production kicks-in when the body goes into autophagy You'll love the science on this. Google last years Nobel Prize winning research on the subject. Gotta LOVE AsapSCIENCE for stimulating thought process though, eh?

      I did three days of dry fasting about five years ago, and that was one of the worst and longest days of my life. I first did one day, had a break, then two days, break and then finally three full days no food no water. First day i was extremely hungry, then stopped being hungry the second day. I felt very slow, dizzy and energy-less throughout the second and third day, and took about a week after that drinking water, juices and some sort of yogurts to get back to normal state. I didn't want to do it, but was more or less pressured into it by acquaintances who firmly believed that dry fasting cures EVERY illness (yes, they even said it cures cancer, mental illnesses and whatnot...) I was clinically depressed at the time and also had a weird ingrown hair that formed a hole in my skin that would bleed a lot every few days, so the fasting was to basically see if it cured that. Surprise, it didnt.

    The brain can burn keton bodies from the beta-oxydenation of fatty acids, so proteins are not the only source of energy after glicogen depletion. And actuallu keton bodies work for brain pretty well.

    What about water fasting for a long period of time? Like that guy that fasted for a year and went from 456 to 180pounds.
    He was healthy and kept his weight off years after. ( story of Angus Barbieri ).
    Great work as always and keep up.

    Whoa! There is a ton of science left unsaid here. The protein synthesis science, you mention, is leftover from some old/dated methodology and missing the entire ketone as crossing the brain-blood-barrier theoretics. Good first-course, though. I know the brevity of your excellent AsapSCIENCE won't allow the extended version but, its important to highlight there's more to the meal...

    I love your videos but the middle part of this video talking about not eating between 72 hours to a couple of weeks is just wrong. look up the science behind water fasting and the benefits behind it. when you’re in a fasted state your body preserves lean tissue mass and prioritizes fat stores through a process called ketosis. only when your fat stores are depleted is it dangerous to fast. think about it this way, back when we were hunter and gatherers we would go days without finding food. it’d be very counterproductive for our body to destroy our muscles for energy because we need those muscles to hunt and kill our next meal.

    • @praisewinston770
      @praisewinston770 Před 6 lety +6

      Glip Glop But we aren't hunters anymore, so our bodies have adapted to suit to our new lifestyle.(e.g - Check out the difference between A Kenyan and An American) So, this video seems pretty correct. 😃

    • @Mygo666
      @Mygo666 Před 6 lety +20

      In the grand time scale of evolution, we stopped being hunters yesterday. Just because we don't hunt now doesn't mean our bodies forgot how to survive a couple of days without food.

  • @gekostar22
    @gekostar22 Před 6 lety

    My biggest follow up question to not eating is what happens if you are not eating food but continue to take lets say a multivitamin. Surely you would last longer but how much and what condition would you be in? Also difference between how active you are while fasting/starving? Like couch potato vs running/working out.

    How in the research on fasting you completely missed ketosis??? Now thousands of people will think you actually can't function without food for more than several days... This is wrong! After several days of fasting (no food intake), your body start to use your fat cells, which brake down into ketones, which ARE able to cross brain blood barrier. There were cases of people fasting for weeks or months and living purely on their own body fat. No significant muscle loss, heavy autophagy, and many health benefits...
    Please do your research more carefully!

      they only mentioned not having any food. Nothing about water. So, I am assuming it is water-only fasting. You can easily last a week on water only. After a week, you may have salt deficiency, among other minerals.

      Mate, I genuinely dislike eating when working. And since my work usually starts at 17:30 and most of the times I don't eat before going to bed, like today in fact, I often go on about 20hour fastings. Quite regularly about 3 times a week. Never thought about it before this video. Probably my record (unintentionally again) is like couple of days.
      No, I don't starve nor do I have problem getting food. It is a choice, unconscious one I suppose and environment. Where I just don't eat if I go out, before going to bed, while working. Mish mash everything together for couple of very hectic days of doing stuff nonstop and there you go, I am on couple of days fasting accidently.
      Sorry, because this is basically worthless comment, but hey, I felt like sharing it
