  • Details on a custom build of a Dumas L'il Swamp buggy. I built it up using custom fabricated parts for a lightweight build and specifically designed for a brushless motor. The build includes a modified twin rudder design. When paired with a 3s Lipo battery the brushless motor provides amazing power. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the great video. This motivated me to build the kit I purchased years ago. I have salvaged an RC system from a helicopter that I hope will work.

I was going through some boxes in the attic and found a Lil Swamp Buggy kit that I had bought when I was about 12, more than 3 decades ago. I put it on a shelve in the garage and pulled it out a couple days ago, thinking that I would put it together and upgrade to an electric motor and see what I could come up with for a radio set up, since they are way cheaper than they were when I was a kid. I'm halfway through putting it together and thought I would check on CZcams to see what other people have done with rc airboats and ran across your video and was surprised to see the very boat I'm working on now. I like that you went with a double rudder and I think that I will go that route. I have a box full of Cox gas engines from various planes and cars I had as a kid. I went to the oldest hobby shop in the town where I live now and asked about getting some fuel for the old gas motors and the guy said I would probably have to mix my own and that Cox made their own that they sold. I only went through 3 or 4 cans that couldn't have been more than 14 oz. As a kid and this place wanted a fortune for a gallon of nitro that I would have to delute anyway and so I just decided to skip it. The boat doesn't look to perform too well and that doesn't surprise me, even with the modifications that I'm sure helped a lot it just isn't going to be a fast boat. It is still a fun project and maybe I will run it on the golf course grass when it is wet. Thanks for posting.

I had that very same boat with an 049. It screamed along. Great memories for me.

Added a couple square sanded 1/32- keel strips to my brushless L'il Buggy. It quit trying to torque roll at full throttle. It still does it,,but I have a warning now. Cut my 3 prop to a 6x3. All electronics thanked me. Ballistic on the pond, snow, ice, pea gravel,,wet grass.

Not being very performance oriented I think I'd be just as happy using a couple of soda bottles as floats or a piece of 2 x 8. Looks like great fun either way!

I have a Dumas airboat that was made differently but still incoroporates the same materials. I picked it up with the Hobbico Nitro starter box loaded with everything I needed to run it. Sadly, the engine was no good. It had two pretty good chips out of the cyliner liner that cannot be repaired. I rebuilt a 52 Super Tiger engine with a OS carburetor to run it. The boat looks brand new, never used. Sadly the quality of the paint has already suffered due to exposure from the fuel. I hate the Dark blue color anyways. My goal was to use it across the snow yhis winter. We had such a severe cold winter, I didnt even get it tuned until yesterday. I will repaint it next. I am also using the boat as a break in platform for other engines so I will never get rid of it eather way. I am thinking of polycoating the bottom to give it more slip also.

How about counter rotating props or 2 DF's to counter prop torque roll?
