Fafan 100%. if GoT gets remade many years from now, their Tywin is going to absolutely suck compared to Charles.
He really looks quite different than his book depiction, which when is the case i always have different imagine than the show´s one when i read.... it is absolutely impossible in the case of Tywin though, Charles Dance performance was just brilliant and he forever changed my perception of Tywin when reading the books.
But maybe he isn't similar to the Tywin of the books.

Ohhhhh.... there was NOTHING likable about Joffrey. He played it too good for his own good... Ramsey Bolton, on the other hand, being a more accomplished 'creep" than Joffrey, maybe because of his age and position.
As much as I hated Ramsey, there was something "engaging" about his glib treacherous charming machinations that Joffrey had NONE of. It was so satisfying to witness Joffrey's poisoned face, I had to keep reminding myself that he was ONLY an actor.
Joffrey was on par with Draco Malfoy in HP lol

James Mazza I don’t disagree. But I think he brought the character to life in a very satisfying way that he made his own.
Yeah, i think its the fact that in the book the hound himself explains the story of his facial burns to sansa in detail, where in the movie he is mostly silent and would never seemingly talk about it - that is one example of their differences. I love the hound in the show, but i feel he is a bit different than the books

He is significantly older than Ned as well. Both his book counterpart and his age in the show. Although it somewhat works since I can imagine Ned looking old for his age due to stress.

Nikolaj in an exceptional actor, one of absolute best in the show, but the character he played is unfortunately not Jaime in the book. Not his fault, but D&D gave him an entirely different character compared to his book counterpart.

I went through some of the comments and nobody mentioned Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen. He was only on for one season but he dominated every scene he was in and his death was one of the best scenes in the entire series. Honorable Mention to Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister. Without even saying a word, his facial expressions could carry a scene.
One of my favorite scenes was between him and Dame Diana Rigg. Beautifully done! And no clothes off... Thank God!

Despite him being kind of creepy in the books, Ian Glen's Jorah was amazing. Him and Alfie Allen's Theon are 2 of the only characters who had satisfying arcs in the show. They did not get enough credit for their portrayals imo
Jamie’s arc was satisfying up to the point where D&D shat all over the character and sent him back to Cersei.
She got a happy ending (of sorts) that she didn’t deserve.
I like ian as Jorah on the tv show too but we have to admit his arc deviated notoriously from the books partially because he wasn't as ugly and bear-like as he is described on the original story. But yeah he's aright

Lena Headey's performance added a layer of complexity and humanity to Cersei's character. It's easy for the portrayal to flop to a one-dimensional villain. But its fascinating how Lena can portray vulnerability and narcissism at the same time.
Book Cersei has probably the best inner monologue of any character in the series, which unfortunately did not translate very well to the show.
I think Lena made the character of Cersei even better

Stephen Dillane as Stannis is far and wide the greatest casting of all time. Words cannot describe how magnificent he was in the role.

There was meant to be 7 seasons, but they decided to add an extra 3 episodes in total (6+7), becuase they couldnt fit it all into one season. Ended up with more GOT not less

s the guy who played Jorah, book Jorah was middle aged with a belly. To find an actress of that height and pretty much almost the same features as Brienne in the book who could act is impossible. So I think they nailed it on that one. But personally, I think they did an exceptional job in casting for all the main roles.

@ClandestineOstrich If you think the series is not being rushed, you have a problem. And badly written. Jon Snow and Tyrion are the real victims. At least the show is gonna have the end that makes sense. But everything else since season 6 is really bad. Dialogue, the battle scenes are idiotic, the actions off many characters are completely stupid (its like they have 12 years old)...

Oh, the symbolism. Tywin butchering the deer, the dead direwolf mom in the beginning found with a dead deer (def in the books, not sure about the show). No wonder the Baratheons are almost extinct. :D
Thats one of my like top 5 favorite scenes from the show. The dialogue, the introduction to his character, the ambiance, and impression of his character. It was such a perfectly done scene for such a great character.

My favorite part about the casting of the families in this show are that each family LOOKS RELATED TO EACH OTHER! Think about it, Richard, Sophie, Maisie, Isaac and Art all look look like they could be the actual children of Sean and Michelle. Lena, Nikolaj, and Peter look like the biological children of Charles. And Emilia and Harry look like they're actual siblings. They all fit the character description and family description to for right in. Even Alfie and Pilou look like they could be real uncle and nephew. It worked so well with family continuity. No one felt like an odd one out in their family. They look related and act as so.

Honesty he did give the best Best performance of every season after the first. Mark Addy and Sean Bean just nailed their short lived roles. the next best casting were Charles Dance Stephen Dillane, Liam Cunningham, and Pedro Pascal. Rory McCann Diana Rigg and Gwendoline Christie were also great. It would be easier to list the poor castings.

I always had a theory that Sam Tarly was GRRM writing himself into the books.
I also thought the same. Even GRRM stated in an interview that if he were to be a character in Westeros, he would be a maester and that's what Sam's doing at Oldtown.

I have followed Diana Rigg's career from The Avengers right on through Game of Thrones. Olenna Tyrell was a fitting epitaph and I can't imagine anyone more perfectly cast as the Queen of Thorns. She and Charles Dance were the best actors on the show.

The single greatest casting of the show bar none was sean bean. The whole accents of the north came from Sean's strong sheffield accent. The thought of northerners sounding anything other than pure yorkshire just doesnt sit right.
The cast played each character incredibly good.

aricente George went on to say that he should have omitted that backflip lol. I'm guessing George had a hand in getting that part cut out, Tyrion came across as a goofy clown instead of who he actually is.

Tyrion had a tough time figuring out who to be in his family and the backflipping backstory both adds family dynamic insights into the Lannisters and adds credibility to Tyrion surviving so many wars despite not being trained to fight. I realize I am in the minority however.

Maybe I interpreted the character in the book differently but I thought pedro Pascal's portrayal was too laid back and charming (still very good) , I imagined the red viper of dorne as dark and dangerous with poisons and such

I can't even imagine anyone else as Khal Drogo but Jason Mamoa. He really killed it, the guy portrayed not only Drogo's like borderline animalistic/primitive masculinity perfectly but also his softer side with Dany. He showed a nice acting range with those two sides of Drogo. And all his dialogue is in dothraki, which he also nails!

Why would anyone want to be Tyrion? He has a pretty unfortunate life, hated by his father, ridiculed by most people in the society he lives in, not to mention his nose is cut off

Theon was spot on as well. When I read the books and it described Theon as the guy who’s always grinning like he knows something everyone else doesn’t, that’s exactly the impression I got from the pre torture Theon show as well
And his chemistry with Ramsay was perfect (I always forget the actors' names😅)
Plus it’s like he had to play 3 different characters: a cocky, snarky guy, a tortured eunuch mindslave, and a damaged person looking for redemption. He nailed all the sides of theon perfectly

I hope that the guy who played Theon goes on to do some stellar work in other films and shows after this - he has so much potential. More-so than Kit Harrington, for example.
