If you ever did 15 of the WORST yellow dresses, Emma Watson's Belle dress would definitely rank #1.
So disappointing
the fact that Belle’s live-action dress could even fit in the yellow category is a crime itself😭 the dress was always supposed to be gold it’s just an incredibly hard color to create in animation.
They should have taken a lesson or two from the 2014 movie La Belle et la Bete.
Such a disappointment as they could have used the theme parks or Broadway versions as a starting point or use more than one shade of yellow to make it less flat
That said with the Beauty and the Beast musical that toured Ireland last year did an amazing job with the ballgown, it was stunning on the actress

Yellow is such an underrated colour in cinema, along with orange. However, if you don’t include the green dress Kiera Knightley wears in Atonement, you will never hear the end of it 😂 the dress actually came up in my film course when discussing viral fashion moments in cinema

Aishwarya Rai's yellow saree in Jodhaa Akbhar is iconic and very beautiful. I love Frida Pinto's yellow top in that one scene from Slumdog Millionaire at the train meet-up scene with Jamal gone wrong along with her yellow silk scarf along with her white top towards the end of the movie. Lastly, Raveena and Kajol's yellow sarees in K3g and Mohra in both songs tip tip barsa Pani and suraj hua Madham are so beautiful and are one of my fav sarees in Bollywood. I also forgot to mention that Belle's yellow dress in both live action and animation are my favs as well.
I love that yellow is a popular choice for dresses in movies that have big dance sequences. Speaking as a dancer, it's such a fun color to wear and you really do feel your mood elevate when you're twirling around in a gorgeous yellow ensemble. I love seeing that reflected in so many movies on this list. :)
Ishioka's costume designs are insane, her death was truly a loss, not just in film's costume design, but design and art all over. Her body of work is so influential before she even stepped foot into film. That yellow coat in Mirror Mirror is truly iconic. The costuming in Crimson Peak is also not just beautiful and intricate, but also highly symbolic and reflective of the characters' emotional states. I'm also glad Mia Wasikowska did this film and brought Edith to life before she decided to move away from Hollywood and back to Australia.
Cher's yellow plaid blazer and skirt will forever be iconic. You just can't imagine it being red or blue, the other colours tested. Yellow certainly is Alicia Silverstone's colour! 💛😍

One of my favourite dresses of all time is one of Scarlett O'Hara's other green dresses. The curtain dress is probably more iconic because it's an important plot point. But later on she's wearing this green gown that's split down the middle. I think it's more of an extremely ornate dressing gown. But I've thought about that dress often. She looked amazing in green.

Some additional context as to why Jodha wears Yellow is a direct reference to her devotion to Krishna, her deity who she turns to when she's mostly in distreas. Even Krishna himself is traditionally shown wearing Yellow dhoti, a garment, tied pleated and tucked between the legs to form a pant silhouette and an occasional decorative fan in the front.
Also, Jodha is a Rajput, a dynasty whose emblem was the sun, further aligning to her character being bold, outspoken, virtuous and brilliant as it is her brilliance that motivates akbar to become a well lived emperor in the movie
I just recently watched Jodhaa Akbar and the costumes were stunning, so were glad to see them here.

For green dresses, I like the dresses in the bamboo forest in House of Flying Daggers, the Handmaiden, Cate Blanchet’s dresses in 2015 Cinderella, the mint green dress Mina wore in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Seeing Jodha Akhbar being recognised was such a refreshing change. Indian cinemas costumes deserves its own episode

I cannot believe you showed the yellow dress Padme Amidala worn but didn't included it. That dress is literally one of the most memorable outfit Natalie Portman has ever put on during her Star Wars years. I mean its so iconic that till this day, you can still see a tons of cosplayers recreating that specific dress. And the romantic medieval inspiration that the dress has was so perfect for that scene with Anakin.

The green dancing costume that Madhuri Dixit wore for "Maar Dala" in Devdas is the most iconic green outfit that I can think of in an Indian movie. She literally transforms and asks who has turned her green. When it came out Devdas was the most expensive Bollywood movie ever made, largely bc of the costumes.
For iconic green dresses, my pick is Kajol's green attire from the bollywood movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). It was really a trendsetter in the 90s.
The green dress video absolutely has to include the emerald green sequined dress worn by Cyd Charisse during the Broadway Melody Ballet sequence in Singin’ in the Rain! The way it sparkles and moves and pops off the red background as she dances is mesmerizing! 💚
I can’t wait for the rest of the colours, I just find it interesting to see, what dresses Tessa likes and why she likes them, and gives multidimensional input about the dresses she features in the video.

For the video on the best green dresses, you HAVE to include Anne Baxter's green dress from The 10 Commandments, Liv Tyler's dress from Lord of the Rings, Katharine Blake's from Anne of a Thousand Days, and Rachel Weisz's from Oz the Great and Powerful.
I know they are in black and white but I sincerely hope that some of Ginger rodgers dresses by Bernard Newman get mentioned in these videos. Especially the feathred one from Top Hat, The pink one with all the ruffles from Swing Time, and the one she wears near the end of Swing Time with the cape. In color that one is gold. The way Bernard Newman constructed all her danceing gowns made them even fuller and flowyer than circle skirts and I think those designs are criminaly underrated.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I NEW the Crimson Peak dress would appear. I was so compelled by the costuming, I bought the film art book, highly recommend it to any who either enjoyed the film or who have an interest in gothic/horror art. It's a beautiful concept book.

For green dresses, I know you will include the green velvet "drapery" dress Scarlett O'Hara wears in "Gone With The Wind", but I hope you will also give a nod to the lovely green & white dress she wears for the BBQ at Twelve Oaks. I also definitely think you should include Keira Knightly's green dress from "Atonement", Liv Tyler's pale green dress from "Lord of the Rings", Hedy Lamarr's gorgeous green costume in "Sampson & Delilah" & Emma Stone's green dress in "La La Land". Speaking of "La La Land" an honorable mention should be given to her yellow dress also.

I love the costume designs for that film! Both the guys' & gals' outfits (on the floor & off it) were designed so carefully to reflect their character progressions and alignments. Would love to see a Style Analysis episode on that film.
Costume design in movies is so underrated, and I think it's so great we're finally taking into account the amount of time and effort poured into it.
Poison Ivy's elaborate green wardrobe from Batman and Robin deserves an inclusion in the Green video. Even if none of them were actual dresses, they were so fabulous, being pretty faithful to the character's comics costumes and Uma Thurman served in all of them 🍃

I loved Padme's floral dress from Attack of the Clones. It's def my favorite outfit of hers and I'm glad it at least got a visual mention in the video.
The detail about Lady Jessica's outfits that is utterly ground breaking are her shoes. They're platforms, but the shape of the platform is super unique, not matching any shoe silhouettes I've ever seen. It's so subtle, but it adds so much to letting the audience know that this is another time and place, an alien world. Keep an eye out for it next time you watch!

Was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of Jessica's yellow veiled dress from Dune on this list! I found the costume design on that movie in general was understated, but beautiful. This was the look that stunned me though, especially in theaters where you get the full effect of the billowing fabric... Super memorable.

For green dresses, Vivien Leigh's Scarlett O'Hara is definitely a go-to. Even next to THE green dress of the movie, she wears several green attires that deverve to be noticed. I also love the green dress worn by Léa Seydoux in "La belle et la bête" in 2014, although the blue one is my personal favourite.

I've seen a lot of yellow plaid in stores in the last year or so and my mind immediately goes to Cher's yellow plaid set. That outfit had a choke hold on my middle school experience. I tried so hard to recreate it.

When you get to black and white outfits, I hope you’ll have separate lists for B&W versus color cinematography. There’s so many amazing dresses that risk getting slept on if you only do color films - Sunset Boulevard, The Thin Man, Ugetsu, Some Like It Hot, Roman Holiday, Gaslight, Belle et la Bete, etc.

For a green dress I always get reminded of the green velvet dress that Constance Hazard wears - it was the inspiration for my mom's wedding dress, because she wore a green velvet bodice (with a white skirt), and that original dress hasn't let me go since my mom told me, because ever since then I've loved green velvet dresses myself hahahah
Cannot wait for the Green Dress video! Stealthily, green may be one of the best in the series, there's so many great candidates. For me, I instantly went to Pirtrait of a Lady on Fire (gorgeous, somehow feels like the fabric is straight out of a painting) and Cate Blanchett's Green Dress in Cinderella (amazing entrance, styled perfectly with the jewlery + Blanchett's red hair).
If we're talking Iconic Yellow Dresses, it's hard to beat the Clueless Yellow Ensamble. I'm convinced if you want to homage clueless, all you gotta do is include that pattern somewhere and our minds just naturally go back to clueless.
But personally, the Dangerous Liaisons dress is my fave, helped by being the focus of one of my favorite shots in cinema when Glenn Close gets out of the carriage.
Honorable mention to the West Side Story dress, that pop of red is gorgeous, though I'm equally a fan of the black dress she wears later in the film.
I know it doesn’t qualify for this video because it’s from TV and not a movie, but I gotta mention my love of Claire’s yellow dress from Outlander season 2! Similarly to the Mirror Mirror look, the cloak really makes the look but the dress itself is stunning as well.
Honestly the costuming is 95% of the appeal of that show to me.
