    The c ring clip is actually a thrust washer. Keeps the crank centered. There are two and they go between the number 3 and 4 cylinders.

    i own one these trucks and need to do this job. this is the first video I have found out of hundreds with this amount of details about the job. I own a Hanes manual for the 22re, though it's rather vague. thanks for the video.

      go to eBay and get a Toyota factory service manual for your year or you can find them downloadable on the web in PDF format.... Haynus manuals leave to much details out :D

      I like to have both a Haynes and Chilton. I do find Haynes vague and patronizing i.e "this is harder job you should take it to a mechanic" I mean come on. I bought your book because I can't afford a mechanic. But anyways Chilton tends to be more in depth and has more diagrams. Also make friends with a certified mechanic, because they'll usually just give you a copy of their shop manual.

    Alright, there's a few issues here. Using a rigid hone, you have to use a flex hone on it after. Those rings aren't going to last. And you never use assembly lube with plastigage. Put it together dry, you won't be rotating anything anyway.

    • @dangerousfandango5943
      @dangerousfandango5943 Před 3 lety +1

      After assembly it dry and all the clearance is good. We can assemble it with lube and able to rotate it to tdc to install the chain correct?

    • @mikaelgaiason688
      @mikaelgaiason688 Před 3 lety

      @@dangerousfandango5943 Right. Put it together clean and dry to check with plastiguage, then after you clean it off use lube for final assembly

    Use solvent when you hone that block and make a 45 degree cross hatch marks.

    Awesome videos. I have an 89 Toyota w/22RE that I'm planning on rebuilding. These videos are the best I've come across. Thank you! Hope to see part 3 soon.
    Also are you open to me shooting you some questions as they arise? Looking to rebuild maybe early next year. Cheers.

    If you blow out the oil gallies take the oil gallie plugs out of the block or the garbage will just pile up and clog up the block.

    Dumb question: if I've got an old engine that's sat for a while, but didn't have any problems when it got parked, would it be best to leave the camshaft and main bearings alone?

    • @pv2smurf
      @pv2smurf  Před 4 lety

      If you're going to commit to keeping it and tear it down to that extent, I would inspect and replace if needed

  • @boharris8179
    @boharris8179 Před 2 lety

    Oil goes through the filter first. That brown stuff on the bearing is copper. The softer metal is meant to scar instead of the crank. If the bearing is gaulded then it's from over heating from either low coolant or oil or both. Probably no need to replace the pistons just the rings. Also why would you not pressure wash n scrub the block with dawn after honing the block?

    You have to hone the cylinders to put in new rings?

    • @pv2smurf

      Yes you do

    • @judewilliams3599
      @judewilliams3599 Před rokem

      You should. But that doesn't mean you have too. If you can see a cross hatch in the cylinder you probably could get by, but I highly recommend to do a new hone job if are putting new rings in.

    Isteed of woring about rod berings and main baring size. Can i use a new crank with stoke barings?

    • @pv2smurf
      @pv2smurf  Před 4 lety

      Very good question. If you have a new stock crank then stock bearings will be fine. But I would urge you to use the plasti gauge and measure clearance. Would be a shame to replace all that and ruin them because you don't have enough oil flow.

      I congratulate you on your channel I just wish that since I do not speak English I do not understand what you say.
      and I think it would be a little better if you recorded the procedures a bit more when you made them Because there is almost no information about Toyota in Spanish, I have one. pick up 1989 I love it and it is in the process of being restored

      Smurf Jones : Says Juan Sandoval that you speak a lot for what you teach, that you should be doing things and explaining at the same time, not that you first do it and do not see how you do it.
