5 MTB Tools that Live in your Bike
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 7. 03. 2018
- Today we'll look at mountain bike tools that live on or inside of your bike. By having all the essentials on hand, you eliminate the need for a backpack on short rides. I can get on board with that!

Although One Up and i9 supplied their tools for review, I had to spend my money on the rest of these. So Iâd like to thank my Patrons for making that possible. For two dollars per month they support this channel, and in return I give them a one hour ask me anything podcast, premier screening, uncensored videos, and best of all exclusive episodes.

As a follow up to the video, I actually decided to use the One Up EDC instead. After examining the Synchros more closely, reading comments, and doing some tests, I found that the pump is not as effective as it seems. To fill the same tire with my Crankbrothers pump takes less than HALF the strokes, and with the EDC pump, a third. Furthermore, the Synchros does not have a 6mm, which may or may not matter to some. I still think the Synchros is a good product, but the EDC is worth the extra weight and bulk to me. - Jak na to + styl
My mistake on the Specialized. Apparently you can just buy their bottle cage and use MOST of the stuff. If I do a follow up Iâll include these products.
Hi seh
Hi Seth
Seth's Bike Hacks hello seth.
I have a big question for you.
Am trying to upgrade my bike but i can't make up my mind.. i love db catch, db release and db atroz comp. Help me out please get back to me as soon as possible.
Banger67 the specialize stomper is to expensive i already try.
Probably wonât see this but, Hey Seth! Love your CZcams channel!:)
I fill my handlebars up with crushed almonds and just pop off an end cap when I need a little fuel for the climbs.
Is that how B1ker got chipmunks in his bike?
And maple syrup in your dropper post?
No Front Brakes best hydraulic dropper post fluid.
Oliver Keeley next level! No bleeds!
Now I know why your bikes rattle like crazy.
My type of rider:
The guy who brings every allen key and wrench and anything to fix anything.
But never breaks something.
Can confirm except for that time where you forget your spare tube and proceed to slash your rear tyre
I know that kind of people!!!
My bike is pretty reliable, but the number of people on group rides that my random collection of spares and tools gets back rolling is insane. Over 2 decades of leading spins will do that for you.
Same here

I actually learned something new about velcro vs hook & loop.
Yeah it's just Velcro, no one calls it Hook and Loop
Velcro is tylenol, hook and loop is acetaminophen.
@@666psicko Oh I know, but no one calls Tylenol that
@@coastaku1954 only in the medical field they do. Basically just giving an example.
@@666psicko Yes, but the general public just calls it tylenol, and probably doesn't know the technical term, same with Velcro
You don't ride a bike, you ride a hardware store!
đđ
Rubikari and when youâre stranded out on the trails, the guy with the hardware will rent his tools out to you hahahahaha
Are these tools really necessary for a mountain bike ?
I've never rode one but I ride an old motorcycle and don't carry more tools than that, so I'm curious about what failures usually occurs on mtb ?

Awwww thatâs awesome
Dang it! This video makes me want to go back into mountain biking again. With all the new toys that you feature... I'm very much tempted. When the mountain bike first came out in the 90's, at a young age, I was on it. Stopped when I became a family man. Now that my daughter is older, I think I can make a comeback just for the fun of it.
Do it. Iâm 54 with two kids in high school. It definitely keeps you feeling young.
Do it! I started riding with my father when I was 14 and we've never stopped since then. We've shared a lot of good memories on the trails. He's now 64 and still faster than me on the uphills!

Seth's Bike Hacks yay
King Missile.
God i realized what he said lmao
Yeah I lol'd on this one. He slid that one right in
Picked up mountain biking recently, and this is the only guy I listen to. Can watch these videos for hours!
Instead of getting a cage like the topeak ninja I just get a inch wide piece of tube and slide it around my bottle cage to the same spot as the ninja is. It can keep a large multitool without any issues and it is free if you have an old tube lying around.
This is going in the next hack video and Iâm crediting you!
Seth's Bike Hacks that's awesome! Thank you!! Keep up the great work
This is genius, and if you have a smaller tool- smaller tube!!
Thatâs a great idea, cheers Kyle!
I didn't understand how it works, Kyle. Do you have a link to a jpg or something, please?
This video had a marked improvement in production value. From the cinematography, the editing, and the VO quality. Fantastic work. This for sure will be a hit!
It was all on the RX100 and my iPhone :-)
RX100... Is that a new bottom bracket? Will it fit my bike?
improvement over what? Seth's production value is always crazy high
I've been over the handle bars twice today. As I set here on the couch licking my wounds waiting for the pain killers to take hold, I stumble across this video. It's perfect, for I'm a gadget geek. And you were kind enough to include links. Bless you
I love how Seth's videos seem like a story instead of a boring tutorial or something. His videos are just INTERSTING.
100% Agreed. Companies are nuts for not sending him free products to review, because they could spend thousands on marketing and not get anything as interesting as what Seth does. I guess the risk is that they might not like what he has to say about it. :-)
It's hook and loop, Google it!
Seth's Bike Hacks nice video
Seth's Bike Hacks could you do a video on basic mantnic? It would really help!
really cool
i just want to see you riding again
Love the video! đ
Correct. Velcro is simply a brand name. Like Kleenex, Taser, or Zamboni.
I've always preferred to carry the weight on my back, with a small camelback, than on my bike. The bike feels nimble and since they weight is on my back, is like it's part of my body.
I do the same but i need better tools and am still saving up for new brakes, tires, shifters, bars and bottle cage. Recently (one month ago) i cheaped out on cleaning/ getting a checkup on my bike and now im paying the price i now am saving up for repairs and upgrades on my trek precaliber (not trail rated but they lied ive been riding rough trails almost enduro rated for two years and now it decides to crap the bed so it works needless to say) but the camel back pouch was punctured on my last crash ( landed on a cactus and started useing my grandpas canteen from vietnam and it fits perfectly in my camelbak so im not complaining but id prefer if some of the weight is on the bike
Glad to hear I'm not the only one! A backpack is so modular and flexible. Unfortunately the weight weenies out there won't hesitate to ask for your help.
Tbh its better imo if its part of the bike, cus u can dry off your sweat easier, and as a fixed gear rider, hop skids prove useful if you don't have a jumping load behind you
.:JUST SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH YOU - FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY, SON THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH...
I just hate riding with a backpack.
I used a crankbrothers multi tool to take most of my cruiser apart and take the chain apart too! It worked great
Seth, I really loved how you have still brought great content despite hurting your wrist. I've been following the channel for a year now and look forward to every update :)
Seth your brutally honest and it's no secret that's one thing that makes your reviews the best!! Another ACE video man đ I would love to see a video of you reviewing a gearbox bike like the zerode ! Is gearbox the future ?
Nailed it on the ninja sound effects đ. Love the videos Seth!
Dear Seth. The hollow chamber in the back of the one up EDC you can get their MasterLink pliers and tire plug kit to go in that space works very well have actually saved several people on the trails with that love it thank you for Reviewing this tool
I've been watching your videos a lot lately and this one got me subscribed. I appreciate your MacGuivering on the bottle filter, and all the other neat stuff.
This is my favourite video of yours. Congrats Seth
Seth i love your work please never stop making videos :=
I like that bottle cage. Heck, they are all neat little gadgets.
Yea pretty cool stuff. I need to get a few of these items.
I keep all of my tools in a bag under my seat. Itâs big enough and was like $15. Been working great for years!
Yeah, I have a small camel back backpack, has enough pockets and compartments for anything you may need.
The three types of riders:
The guy who doesnât have any tools because ups lost their package
The normal guy with some tools and gear
The guy with the backpacking backpack who carries around a floor pump and has back problems
đ
Marin Mountain Biker you forgot the fourth type: the guy who forgets his tools and whose shit breaks in the middle of nowhere
phaelox yessss
And the seth
haha great list you did! =) I might be the fifth rider: The guy who tries to mix between a backpacking backpack and the rest of the various places on the bike to pack stuff. Not for needing it, but for training having heavy rides... for being able to take with me my kid and tents and food and weapons for protection.. and uhm my Nintendo Switch with portable projector and a bigass battery pack >_
Loved the video seth get better soon!
awesome video. love your content and delivery.
awesome content and very good reviews on each product. I just started mtb and these are good tools to keep in mind. thanks seth!
Hey, I'd like to see a 2021 edition of this video. There are several new and improved designs, e.g. from One Up and the All in tool now has a chain breaker. There are some cool looking ones that you insert into the handlebar too.
I was a little worried about the videos with your wrist not t 100%, but you still killing it, and also you can see how the channel has changed since the beginning and you still keep rasing the bar, you are best dude, felicitaciones desde MĂ©xico
thanks!
ahahsejkbasjfaewi IÂŽm going bananas you answer my comment
Very nice video review. I instantly added it to my favourites. Will definitely try some of these if I can get my hands on the tools.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Love these hacks and reviews. I wouldn't know most of this stuff was out there without the videos. Cool tools.
This guy, is up there with the likes of William Osman on underrated CZcamsrs. He's made me want to expand to mountain biking and give it a try. Kudos
"... from a guy who would definately leave his tool at home if it wasn't attached to him." (I am glad your tool is still attached to you. Long may it remain so !!)
Awesome video really enjoy watching your videos
You are the best, the syncros matchbox couple cage is what I have been looking for this hole time.
Loved the ninja sounds effects! definitely made me bust out laughing haha
Gonna have to try the matchstix! When I ride, people usually call me the biggest tool on the bike.
Best joke ever. So true. I donât wait for others to call
Em the biggest tool, I just am and am proud of it
So Cool, I have been thinking about doing something really similar when I get my new whip!!! Thanks for some great đđœ ideas!!!
Great video seth, very helpful, thanks
Looking like a straight up G with that beanie!
âYou can really crank down on it!â yeah I can see that đ
Topeak Turbo Morph G is my favourite pump, it's in between a floor pump and a hand pump, absolutely love it.
love the more regular videos big inspiration to sort my bike out thenks seth !!! đ
Lol the Ninja noises sounded like some sort of Kung Fu Crow
Love the music selection in your video, as always! đđ»
Nice to see you cover this sector in mountain biking man... like to see more unique modification stuff like this.
This is not a bike dude... itâs a tool boxđ€Ł
I believe that the threading of the steerer voids warranty on fox forks broski.
yeah, I'm pretty sure the warranty doesn't cover threading
+Seth's Bike Hacks But it is still looks the best tool.
The other bottom-mount tools has a huge disadvantage in my opinion: it looks good in this video, on a shiny bike, but if you go out for a nice muddy/snowy ride... Dude, you'll hate to clean all that stuff even from the tools too...
I need that EDC. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
nice video... cool edc tools. I like the stealthieness of most of the tools
Just call it velcro, you wouldn't call Coca-Cola a 'sparkling soft drink with vegetable extracts'
He probably would. haha
We call it softdrinks here in philippines, anything that is carbonated beverage.
That isn't an equivalent comparison. Velcro is a brand name for a type of hook-and-loop, just like Coca-Cola is a brand name for a type of soda. It'd be like calling any type of soda "Coke" (which some people incorrectly do).
@@LegitosaurusRex yeah, it's like calling any ice cream on stick a Popsicleâą and any residential garbage container - a Dumpsterâą.
Simply ridiculous!
Pop
I do like all of these, But I always thought it was better to carry the weight on you, and keep the bike as lite as possible. Just a thoughtđ
Great video of corse as well!
Thanks! Even loaded down with tools and water I'm pushing 32 lbs on this bike. As bikes get lighter I think people are going to feel better about weighing them down a bit. Still there's nothing like riding a totally naked bike!
All Terrain Biking agreed. My bike is always naked
That's funny, I feel the opposite way. It feels best to not carry anything on my body, especially on hot days.
I'm the opposite, I like to be free to move my weight around s easily as possible.
Wow dude! I have a long way to go in terms of knowing the kinds os tools I need. Keep up the good work.
Omg i live there in grand junction! It was so cool seeing my hometown trails on your video! Thats for the great content man.
My MTB cost only 90$ đđđ Avon Gutts đđ and I am thinking why I am here
Theres a 90$ mtb in india??
The hollow bottom bracket tool can be found from a chinese website for 20 bucks same thing just straight from the chinese factory its made...
Anthony Camacho on which website?
I have no affiliation with the company, but I need to set the record straight. This tool is made in Italy by a small company. If there are imitations available, you are free to link to them, but the one in the video is the real deal.
Seth's Bike Hacks You're right. We should buy the original... But as a student it's pretty expensive
You don't go cheap on tools. Cheap tools let you down when they are most needed.
This Guy no not really a tools price doesn't determine if it's good or not whether it lasts and works is what matters yes i understand you mean most good tools come at a price but there are some cheap tools which actually end up not being trash
The vids have been awesome lately!!!!
I use the syncrose, just without the pump and I love it! I would never replace it and I love it!
Oh my God you one of those people who get mad at people calling tissues Kleenex

T2NATE VIDEOS k
Woah. Iâve lived an hour away from grand junction my entire life and itâs trippy to see someone ride here!
Love the vids! like the information regarding velcro/hook and loop, i never knew that!
great channel bud. great info and good humor
Great vid Seth. Keeping it creative after all these years.
A very interesting and informative video. Thank you very much.
Nice! Got to have one or two of these for my gravel bike
I bought the Synchros Matchbox Tailor after watching this video. Great product. Thanks for the tip Seth!
This setup is cool af!
that was a great video man....thanks for the tips...very useful.
Total fan of the All-In tool. I've raced Super-D and Enduro at Paris Mountain and several cross-country races and the tool has always stayed put. By the way, the notched out section on the side is designed to hold 2 quick links. As always great vid bro!
Very useful thanks Seth
Like the pump with bottle , thanks BRAH !
Amazing vid Seth keep up the amazing work
Loving the more frequent uploads!
Aye! another video another day nice job seth
Awesome! Thank you Seth
Great video. I've got to try that edc oneup tool
Great video! Thanks so much for sharing.
Love your videos man keep up the good work !!! I just routed my first dropper post in a trance 3 frame that is not supposed to accept a internal routing. i went inside the frame around the bottom braket an up the seat tube.
I made myself something similar to the parktool routing blue string with a piece of string, a small washer and two tiny but very strong magnets I had.
I glued one of the magnet to the washer, tied up the rope in the hole of the washer and voilĂ !
Also GRAVITY helps a lot to route around the BB. I turned the bike almost upside down so when I let go the magnet from the outside, the inside one would naturally fall in the BB toward the seat tube. then i fished the first magnet with the second one again using the same trick (washer + super glue).
I don't know if it is a hack or more juste technique but i thought I would share.
I ride in the Nevada mountains 8 miles from Death Valley.
I'm now going to look a my mountain bike completely different.
Thanks dude
Love the clip at food lion. Such a great skatepark!
Great video as always!đ
I have this little canister from specialized that fits in a bottle holder. It carries my crank brothers multi tool, tire tools, co2 cylinder w/the head, xtra links and it also has a little compartment inside the lid for patches, band aids, money etc.
if I need 2 water bottles I just put the canister in my jersey pocket. Never know itâs there.
As far as water from a stream goes, I only use Geigerrig/Aquamira hydration packs with a filter on it. The only brand I trust after landing in the hospital with another brand.
As far as the urine test, go to CZcams and look at the video of the runner who tested Geigerrigâs filters with a hydration pack full of pee.
Anyway, Thanks for another awesome video!!đ”đ»
Great to see you got a video out, even with UPS mucking up
Dude I love seeing all these, never knew any of these even existed!
Seth! That life straw, thank u!! What life straw is that and what bottle. I have never thought of that and never ridden with anyone who does. If thereâs one thing I would love to do but donât since itâs too much it cold camel pack, and as many waters in cages as possible. Too much hassle and weight. That straw and bottle combo is life saver!!! Brilliant. Life straw needs to advertise that in EVERY shop and theyâd sell out
wow! thanks for sharing!
I agree with you on the proliferation of on bike tools! They're a great idea. The EDC tool could be absolutely genius, and already is very smart idea. I think if like Topeak, or Park Tools teamed up with EDC, to make the tool portion better, it would become standard issue on every bike.
That edc is sick!!!
Very interesting and cool products, that simplify your bike life! After years of fully riding, I decided to go with a good geomtry plus tyre hardtail again. I can ride it as rad as on an enduro and this is great. It is more fun!! Simplification!
Thanx Seth for giving info on such tools B-)
Finally! Someone who bites back towards people who don't know that velcro is the first brand name of a hook-and-loop system. Fun fact: In Swedish, it's called kardborre (burdock) after the burdock plant that inspired the Swiss inventor to create the attachment system. Germany, Norway and probably other Germanic languages also use their respective word for burdock to name the system.
Unfortunately, since many companies use English as business language, "hook-and-loop" is commonly replaced by local pronunciations of "velcro" (just like "mesh", "webbing", "foam", "tarp" and "buckle" replaces domestic words that have worked perfectly before). I want to say that is likely because of laziness, lack of imagination and ignorance ;)
Do I sound bitter? Good :D
Anyway, thanks for pointing out the error and sticking to the proper terminology :)
Your videos are always top notch...the CZcams MTB editing master! On some of the less expensive bottle cages, no matter what you do the bottle still doesn't fit perfectly snug, and it will rattle a bit at times or even try to fall out on big hits. I take a thin can koozie and cut the bottom out of it and slide it over the water bottle. It makes it fit snug, prevents ANY rattle, AND helps to keep your water cool for a little longer. Win, win, win. :-)
Great vid as always
things I take on a long distance (4-8 hours depending) ride - 3 liters of water, about three different multi-tools, two patch repair kits (tubes bro), a high calorie food store (fruit works wonders), torch, bike lights, jacket, a phone, a powerbank for said phone, cash, ID if something really bad happens, a roll of toilet paper (for science) and a travel first-aid kit. Bear in mind that I ride alone and I don't have a car so some of these things are there because of those reasons. It's also super tricky to travel with so much weight in a backpack, but these things I carry from bad experience without them and have saved me a lot of grief, so these tool ideas here are amazing and I'll have to invest in some of them.
I use a CookJoy portable repair kit. Had it for a few months and Iâm blown away
The Best Chanel for bike
Love this type of video
Hi seth love the channel big fan always find your hacks brilliant
