Have a great rest of your week and I hope you continue watching! Let me know if you have any video suggestions....actually I just started a new facebook private group called "Life in Car Sales" -- maybe you should join it! let me know and I'll invite you to it

    Was steps away from trading in my car and purchasing a 2018 Camry Hybrid Sport... then I started reading about this horrible Scout Navigation and Entune app. No Apple CarPlay!? This honestly killed the deal for me. I would have more than likely purchased the car if integrated navigation was atleast an option. Why only make it available on one trim? Toyota needs to fix this issue. Til then I’m still shopping around.

    Will Toyota encorporate iphone and android play soon? thats a bummer, everyone else does it and toyota chose not too.

    • @gester27
      @gester27 Před 7 lety +2

      Toyota issues a statement as to why they are not including it. I'll briefly explain why. As you may know, Toyota is very secretive with how their cars are made, the secretes behind their reliability and such.They don't just let anyone tinker with their equipment. And, as you also may already know, apple and google are getting into the car business so by essentially giving automakers android auto and apple car play, they are allowing them to connect to software of what makes each car run the way it does. Apple and google are known to harvest meta data, and information used to aid their engineers in creating or refining things. So basically, for all those cars that run android auto or apple car play, Apple, and google, are getting free research and development without having to spend much. They'll be able to get driving habits, destinations, track gps movements and such. Toyota has teamed up with Ford, Mazda, and a European group to develop their own system to allow integration but at a limited level.

      @keanedm3108 Před 7 lety +1

      Well if that's the case why not have their GPS app free? instead of only 3 yrs free then having to pay for it? I bought a new 2018 Camry SE it should come with a free GPS app at least.

    • @gester27
      @gester27 Před 7 lety +2

      Keane DM nice! I get what you're saying. I'm actually looking for a car myself. I was dead set on the kia optima sxl as it had everything I could want. Panaramic roof, cooled seats, turbo, 245 HP, folding mirrors, android auto 8 inch screen, birds eye view, Harmon Kardon speakers.. but then the camry 2018 xse V6 came... It doesn't have cooled seats or auto folding mirrors or that welcome when you walk to it that the optima has, but the camry has a newer and faster engine, Lane keeping assist, the reliability of a Toyota brand all for a thousand dollar difference. Yeahz I'll admit they should've given the subscription for free, but with what you're getting in the vehicle it's worth not having it. When they come out with the alternative, it'll be free.. most likely...hopefully hahaha.

    Just bought a 2017 RAV4 and am really frustrated with the navigation app. I did not go for the integrated version and I now see the reviews of the app are very bad. How can I raise the volume of the voice instructions? It's barely audible and doesn't mute the music. Very clunky. Toyota is a class act so I'm very disappointed that it works so poorly. Any suggestions?

  • @cohall46

    Nice quick review of the 2 systems. How about a longer one for the integrated nav unit?

  • @jeffrobodeen400
    @jeffrobodeen400 Před 5 lety

    BTW ...just about any in dash nav unit has no value if you want real time traffic/accident alerts because they need to have what's called a Traffic Message Channel (TMC) receiver installed in the vehicle to get that....AND MOST DO NOT HAVE THE RECEIVER.
    The portable plug in Garmin types...just about all of those have the receiver built in to them and will allow you to get accident reports of backed up traffic....also SiriusXM has a navtraffic subscription to get that info too but on those with an lcd screen not just the XM radio.

  • @jeffrobodeen400
    @jeffrobodeen400 Před 5 lety

    the only issue i have with connected (versus integrated)..is that connected is going to always be through your smartphone running and you are using data usage minutes with that...if you have an unlimited data plan...no problem

  • @michaelpoquette3182
    @michaelpoquette3182 Před 6 lety +1

    Jeff, thanks for your effort first of all, but as others have said here, "Entune sucks." I had a 2015 Camry V6 XLE with INTEGRATED Navigation. I assumed I would have basically the same system in the 2018 Camry V6 XLE that I purchased. Well, if you are familiar with these vehicles you know they are MUCH different. I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but I didn't fully understand what the new Navigation would be like. I had read many reviews with some mentioning that the Navigation was now app linked, but I didn't think much of it.
    Only after purchasing the vehicle did I find out they were much different. The salesman, Al Hussain from Heiser Toyota in Milwaukee, did a HORRIBLE job of explaining the vehicle features and was VERY impatient. He never explained a thing about how the new Navigation system worked. NOTHING ! This was shocking in retrospect and not only speaks very poorly of him, but Heiser Toyota, Milwaukee, as well.
    I found out on my own that you have to download, with all the hassle involved in setting up the account, the Entune 3.0 App and then ALSO the "Scout GPS Link" App. I've had the vehicle a week and a half and I still can't figure out what is the optimum sequence for activating my Navigation. At times it goes not so badly and other times It takes forever for the two apps to sync which appears to be the big problem. I have pulled over several times trying to get the Navigation to open. You have to wait and wait and open and close the apps hoping they will sync and Nav will open. It is an absurd system and very frustrating. It doesn't work well at all and it is a sham as far as I'm concerned.
    I feel Toyota wanted a CHEAPER way to offer Navigation and make it look like they were offering it to their customers. But if you are familiar with it, you know it SUCKS. Toyota really went CHEAP HERE. This is a terrible and fussy way of having Navigation. As I said earlier, if you had ONBOARD or integrated Navigation previously, as I did, this is horrible and a JOKE.
    As I LATER told the salesman and General Manager at Heiser, I wouldn't have bought the vehicle had I known how poorly this new Navigation system works. I'm going to keep trying it, since I was so used to using my Nav previously and perhaps they will improve it somehow. I am also going to look for some tricks that may help as well. Right Now, I wouldn't give you 2 cents for the Toyota App based Navigation system. It's a half-assed system that is problematic just like their other apps like Pandora, Slacker, etc. You should NOT have to put up with shoddy NAVIGATION, however which is exactly what this is.

  • @aloehr50
    @aloehr50 Před 6 lety +12

    Attention.. DO NOT BUY a Toyota with connected navigation. Even if you can get it to work and keep it working, it is simply going to tell you to turn left or right. No description of ramps or exits, No visual help on anything. And the turn instructions are too early or too late. You may as well be looking at a paper map. toyota needs to change this system out for all owners who were mislead into thinking they were buying a navigation system that is modern. Horrible, Toyota!

      @gregohare2406 Před 4 lety

      Alan Loehr Yep, it would tell you to turn after or when you reached an intersection. It would also tell me to continue west when I was driving east. Also doesn’t work when you loose phone signal. Happened to me in North Carolina. Had to buy a stand alone Garmin system at Walmart. Later, it stopped working altogether. Dealer took several visits to fix.

    Hi I have a question, I own a 2017 Toyota Prius V Five and omg the navigation on my car is trash I have yet to be able to use it normal even for one time. I called Toyota and told them why us my navigation always getting lost and my cars not tracking me in the street I am in or anywhere after a while and they said try to calibrate it and I did to my exact location and position everything and it works normal for just a while but once I am at a location where I possibly the gps or map cant understand then its all over it loose all navigation system location where I am at and it takes sooo long to calibrate it by zooming in and out left and right all that so I stopped using it because not one time has it stayed locked on for one day. They had told me update the map because i had a 2016 so I did and I updated it to 2018 tho I am not sure if thats the newest one for a 2017 prius v and so its update but it still the same thing tracks for a while then if it looses signal on the gps or a place thats not on the map....its done totally looses me and can no longer track or use it unless i calibrate it again but it takes so long to do that so once again stopped using it....do you know whats wrong possibly or is the toyota navigation just trash?

    They're STILL using this crap system? Wow. I suppose old people enjoy the 20-yr old graphics & slow interface because it gives them comfort. But why won't Toyota put in something modern like android auto support? I get it, selling a nav system as a $2,500 option makes them money but this is going to cost them SO MANY sales. I can't imagine anyone who's ever tried Android auto buying a car with a backwards system like this one.

      Thanks for your question! Sorry I missed it for some reason. All of the Toyotas have some form of voice recognition on them now. It can range from basic phone and radio voice commands all the way up to using navigation-related voice commands. It depends on what Entune system you get with your Toyota when you buy it. Look for 1) Entune Audio, 2) Entune Audio Plus, 3) Entune Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation, 4) Entune Premium Audio with JBL and Integrated Navigation when you buy one :)

    I just bought a new 2018 Toyota Tundra which has entune system with a connected GPS system. It is the worst. First of all, it is constantly dropping the signal either on the phone or the bluetooth connection. Secondly, the directions are horrible and there is not turn by turn directions just the route. Thirdly, it uses my data. If I'm going to use my data, I'll use Google Maps or whatever is better than this. Fourthly, it ran the app in the background the first month so I ran my data way beyond and drove my bill up three times its normal. Fifthly, it cant be changed, so I'm told. I bought a new vehicle and had always looked forward to having a in dash gps system. Well, I didn't get it. Do something about it Toyota, please.
