I thought you said in a previous video that the shifter surround should be black rubber? If the carpet was replaced the carpet would be bound with vinyl. I also think you said the trunk latch was sliver with a dab of something like loctite, honey colored? Thanks, just trying to learn the details. Beautiful car.

I think that it is a myth that early cars (before approx 1969) had the black rubber around the auto shifter. I have never seen an original early car that had that. Also the Mercedes sales brochures from the time do not feature such black rubber around the shifter. Would be eager for Brian to comment on that aspect.
      PS this car is amazing.
The wood screwdriver handle can be had for approx 50 Euros in Europe from time to time on ebay.

The later 280SL cars with multi-loop carpeting had the rubber binding. As FD suggested, some of the '68 multi-loop cars may have had stitched vinyl binding. The 250SL cars of course have the square-weave carpeting and stitched in binding. Yes, both sides of the trunk latch are unpainted. Hope this helps.
