    I remember my grandfather's 1970 280SL had the same blue color toolkit in the trunk, and yes back then you could perform basic maintenance because the owners manual actually had proper instructions on how to DIY. Unfortunately, most new vehicles, like, Audi,BMW, Mercedes, Porsche now in 2024, their owners manual will tell you to go to an authorized dealership to perform an oil change, air cleaner change, simple interior light bulb change, and even more ridiculous to top off the windshield washer fluid. Apparently the manufacturers no longer want us to touch anything on our own vehicles. Very soon all vehicles will have sealed engine and battery compartments, to deprive us to do our own maintenance, I find this obsurd. I enjoy working on my own cars and performing all basic maintenance tasks! We need to let the manufacturers to stop this nonsense. Excellent video very informative and sure brings back food memories! 👍

    I watched this for the notches : ) because replacement parts do not usually come with ´the inside notches- you need to lead them in , , ,, ,

    Thank you very much for this presentation. It is a very good demonstration of a stock W113 250SL.
    Would you be kind enough to make a similar presentation in the same detail for a W108 280SE?

    What is the story with the battery? Are those caps real or just to look like original battery?

    • @ivorbrians3160
      @ivorbrians3160 Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Eric. The battery is just a 'genuine' Mercedes battery as purchased through the Mercedes parts department (I believe in this video; it was the 8 year-old battery the car was restored with, and we subsequently purchased an AGM battery from Mercedes which would look different).

    Another garage queen destined for some rich guys massive “collection” presented by a model expert with emphasis on the vehicle being absolutely as it rolled off the assembly line so that it will thrill the judges at a rich guys concours d’Elegance at a ritzy expensive resort.. . I doubt the poor thing will ever see an enjoyable days drive out in the country.

      This vehicle was recently purchased, intending to use it as a weekender and occasional weekday car. Though we will remain private on other details, rest assured this vehicle will get some steady use given the buyer's enthusiasm.

      Hi Larry, thanks for your comments! The tendency to group things is in our human nature. If we write of “rich guys,” we are doing just that, grouping people into categories. Some philosophies suggest a oneness, a unity. Anyway, I digress. Automobile enthusiasts come in all flavors and financial situations. In this case, the original owner, (now 90 years old) commissioned the restoration out of the love of the car and the fond memories he had of it and chose to keep it absolutely 'correct'. Estate planning prompted its sale after he had some fun with it in its present state. Our buyer actually intends to drive it rather than show it and actually communicated that to us. Yes, this car has won 23 trophies and plaques (some pre-restoration from back-in-the-day) and some post-restoration. The buyer did not want them!

      Don't worry - there are plenty of W113 owners who drive their cars everyday like me. MI - thank you for the well done and informative video. I like the protective towel used to protect the soft top window.
