@@Ruth-wu3vf I appreciate your advice, but telling a teenager to fake their emotions isn't necessarily the answer, I don't think. When you are blue, you are blue. You can still be optimistic and positive about the future, but you can still be sad-- two things can be true at once. Those are the sorts of things that confuse and frustrate teenagers; when they are told one thing yet they must also do another

I have heard this song numerous times in my life, but I never knew who was the singer and I never really focused on the lyrics. Today while driving to Brisbane, this song was playing again on the radio and I was suddenly overwhelmed by emotions. It is such a beautiful track and I am truly proud of Australia. I am not an Aussie myself, but I have lived here for over a year and a half. During that time, I have made Brisbane my home, wandered around the quiet Outback, travelled the east and the west as well as leaped from Circular Quay to Manly. My time here will be up soon, but I will never forget this place and this wonderful piece of music will be among the many things that created these indelible memories.

    Lyrics
Meet me down by the jetty landing
Where the the pontoons bump and sway
I see the others reading, standing
As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay
Hear the Captain blow his whistle
    So long she's been away
I miss our early morning wrestle
Not a very Happy way to start the day
    She don't like
    That kind of behaviour
    She don't like
    That kind of behaviour
    So, throw down your guns
    Don't be so reckless
    Throw down your guns
    Don't be so
Feel like Scott of the Antarctic
    Base camp too far away
A Russian sun beneath the Arctic
    Burke and Wills and camels
    Initials in the tree
    She don't like
    That kind of behaviour
    She don't like
    That kind of behaviour
    So, throw down your guns
    Don't be so reckless
    Throw down your guns
    Don't be so

I feel like more attention needs to be paid to Australian music, and not just music, but Australian art in general. By art I don't just mean painting alone but also film, literature, music, performing arts, dancing... we produce some of the most idiosyncratic, original and unique perspectives of life. These perspectives are shaped by our unique country, our intrinsic connection to the land and our Indigenous population. International audiences should take notice, we can produce art as good as Europe and North America, we just need the funds to support our endeavours. Not to mention we need to start supporting our artists and filmmakers, instead of simply paying attention solely to the work that comes out of America. Buy a ticket to an Australian film as often as possible. If you feel creative, put your mind to it. This kind of eerie, spine-tingling music by Australian Crawl is just some of the meaningful brilliance we, as a country, can produce.

    • @robertplante8858
      @robertplante8858 Před 4 lety +4

I agree with your sentiment to a degree. Here in Canada we play second fiddle to the US in those same artistic endeavours. There is a brilliant wealth of music, art and film talent to be discovered in every country, not just the USA. Not sure why every measuring stick of success is gauged by American recognition...

    • @jeanspittles852

@@robertplante8858 I think it's because they're so pushy, egotistical, loud mouthed, overbearing and in your face. They see that as the key to success ... apart from Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and a handful of others from the earlier years I'm not a fan of American music. But I do love your Canadian singer-songwriters, like Gordon Lightfoot, Chantal Kreviazuk, Bryan Adams, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell ... they're up there with the best.
