Australian Crawl - Oh No Not You Again (1981)
Let me tell you about two young lovers that lived down the coast
She was such a pretty thing... Man what a host
Evening time she sets the table for four
Some friends are coming round tonight
He's out on the town, he's trying to score
Woke up early this morning something's got his mind
Cursing the night before... breakfast at nine
Felt him restless whoa all through the night
She sees that something is wrong with him
She don't want to cry she just wants to know why
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again
Don't own a swimming pool not even a colour TV
Works awful hard some days... she lets him be
You know it ain't looking good for them no loving no more
Some friends are coming round tonight he's out on the town
He's knocking on the wrong door
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again,
    She's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone yeah
    [Repeat 1st verse & chorus]
Oh, oh, oh, oh... oh, no not you again [repeat & fade]

I'm 48 and moved from the US back in 2000. I've been obsessed with this song for years. Makes me wish I could have grown up in Australia in the 80's. The rock scene seems so much more musical and personal.
I don't mind the over the top Motley Crew / Poison stuff. But it feels like huge stadiums vs smokey pubs.

Aussie music was awesome in the 70's, 80;s and early 90's. Try Split Enz (NZ band later as Crowded House), Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, The Black Sorrows, Divinyls, Kate Ceberano, Hoodoo Gurus, Hunters and Collectors, John Farnham, Mondo Rock, Skyhooks, Dragon (NZ), Mi Sex (NZ), The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Noiseworks, the list goes on. I'm sure you will find plenty to like. Sadly, the music scene here now is nothing :(

They were pretty popular at the time, and loved dearly by fans even since. A bit like Chisels in that there legacy persists enormously in the hearts of fans. Luckily there haven’t been any pretentious retrospectives like one sees about bands like say the Go Betweens. They were a great band too, but perhaps a little too much was made of their music. Where as Aussie Crawl…. I see nothing but love from fans like yourself .

I remember the first time I order 5 cds direct from Australian and the day I got them, It was just so freaking good, see all 5 cds from Australian Crawl (at that time I was in Boston USA, and even there was kind of hard to find cds from this awesome band) . The teens from today, they have no clue how hard was to get music. Today you go right here at the youtube and get whatever you want, get a software and download whatever you feel like.... For some typical (any) dumb reason, the UK never seem to have got this as a single, but many Aussie releases back then didn't get to the UK, till the fucking likes of Minogue came along, thank you idiots very much. We had to put up with nonstop US shit though-Slagdonna (worst of the lot), starship, bon jovi, atlantic star, and we had enough bad UK crap too. ALL the best 80s lot are the ones totally ignored for the bubblegum crap and the critically acclaimed arseholes not worth their sleeve designs.

I remember this summer of 1989 I was just 15 years old and me and friends went on this beach couple hours from my city in Brazil, we spend about 10 days at the beach I was the youngster one and my friend the house’s owner was the older one he was 17 every morning after surf, we lay in our hammocks waiting for my brother to make the lunch (he was the Cheff) and someone putted the crawl tape on that 80’s boombox and the songs just sent us to somewhere else, like Indonesia, Hawaii, we were just kids full of dreams. Great time!

Guy's passing was such a tragic loss to Australian music... I can only imagine the kind of amazing contributions he wouldve continued to make had he lived a more protracted life. It isnt hard to imagine him being an enduring performer and household name still in the same league as Barnsey, Johnny Farnham, Jon Stevens or the Finn Brothers had he lived into the 90's and beyond.
He was such a talented songwriter, guitarist and a very underrated vocalist. And he seemed to just reject the rockstar act half the time and focus on his craft... While James was prancing round with his look-at-me shirts and boofy hair trying to be the next Braithwaite or something, guy just chilled out with his overbite and his mullet, not giving a fuck and just enjoying being a musician for music's sake.
The most tragic part of his death was that he passed due to health complications he encountered after having made a decision to live a better life and detox himself from drugs and alcohol. If there is any consolation, i guess, it is that he left us this gem of Australian rock music before he departed that he may be remembered for forever..
    RIP Guy McDonough 1955-1984.
