Most of us Melbourne kids who grew up in the 70’s & 80’s had no idea how good we had it. Turns out the Melb. Pub scene back then was legendary. In a good week we could see Oz Crawl, Cold Chisel,, Midnight Oil, Icehouse, Uncanny X-men, INXS, Painters & Dockers, Pseudo Echo, The Church, The Models, Violent Femmes, & dozens more. When I was in a band we did see this many in a good week, we’d stick our heads in at places like The Corner Hotel, Bombay Rock, Billboard, the Underground, & dozens more, out to the Waltzing Matilda & The Pier. Damn near the perfect decade. I’ll always miss it.
The 70s and 80s rocked. Nothing will ever be as good again. Remember having the double cassette and as soon as your fav song came on the radio you pushed record then rewinded and replayed over and over again. Time of our lives💖
Funny that I always thought they sounded like they had a lobotomy for this song. On youtube I wondered what it might sound like at ).25 faster than the normal speed....hmmm... not bad. Tried playing it at 50% faster than the original speed....... hey that's not bad either and the song finishes sooner.
As a young Kiwi living in Brisbane between 1980 / 84 Aussie music was the best in the world. I still have all my vinals in my bar room and I really miss the sound of Aussie music in the early 80's. This song was a hit from the very first time I heard it. Musically it was the best time in my life. Aussie and Kiwi bands rocked my world. Do not forget Goanna or the Reels.
Great taste brother. Let's not forget the Kiwis too, mi sex, split enz, Jenny Morris, Dave dobbin, The swingers( counting the beat) etc. Brilliant time to live. Great taste bro

Australian Crawl forever , greatings from Brazil , listening in November 2018 !
Australia and New Zealand had the best music in the 70's and 80's but only certain artists were heard here in the U.S. but there were many such as Australian Crawl, Dragon, Icehouse, the Jets, Goanna, Hunters and Collectors, Mutton Birds, the Choir Boys and several from New Zealand as well glad to hear them here, g'day y'all.
I've only been in Australia 4 yrs but luckily my wife has introduced me to so many Ozzie bands. Saw James Rayne at The Red Hot Summer Tour last weekend and he did an incredible version !!!!
Hope you enjoy this wonderful country and it's wonderful music, I'm from New Zealand have been here 34 years and still love this country as much as I did the day I first arrived
I remember seeing Oz Crawl at the Melbourne Royal Show. It was about 1984 and i was 16 or so. What a concert. What a time. I got in trouble as i got home pretty late. Well worth it.
I'm from Perth, but I was in Sydney for 2 years. This song among others from Australian crawl reminds me of those great times. I was a driver for girls on the game in the cross. Fantastic times as a 30 year old bloke.
@@vindolanda6974 I do my friend and I loved every minute I was in Sydney. I only left the greatest job in Australia because I felt I was being forced into things I didn't agree with. Sydney has a very bad side to it, my friend. but still, I would still do it all again, no problems.
gday bloke , perth here ... 1988 was in the cross what a blast fucking crazy , the big coca cola sign and the shenanigans at the fountain , we drove from perth to go up to the brizzy world expo 1988 , what a ride that 2 month trip was ,,, i remember early hours of the morning coming down into Adelaide after crossing the nulabor being greeted by a car load of youths who hung their ass out the window at us from WA at the lights in the city, ha ha ha greetings from Adelaide i guess ,,then when entering the cross in the car late at night the first night a lady of the night sticking her head in the window of the car offering to take 3 of us on for $50 ,,cheap root by today's prices ha ha ha , good memories great times there were many more
It timeless mate it will come back around.. i was born in Sydney in 1982 and they played this at my 21st bday they say as a baby i used to cruise around singing this song anyway have a good one
I went to oz in 1989, I was a dish pig in a restaurant on Hamilton Island. Mate sent me a tape of Aussie stuff. Paul Kelly, 1927, I still love listening to it.
Was a teenager from 85, lived in Sydney western suburbs Merrylands, was alive in the best time and place likely in history. But like everything its hindsight that informs us of this much missed truth. It honestly cant be explained to this generation that it was the last era of freedom. No rules, no cameras everywhere, no phones and Instagram hoes, just LIFE
With my night time job I always have the radio on triple m and after listening for a few years now I’ve definitely grown a much bigger appreciation for old school rock especially great Aussie bands like Aus crawl, Chisel, Midnight oil and the Angels.
IIRC the Reyne brothers went to Peninsula High School in Mount Eliza, on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia (and most, if not all, of the other guys from Aussie Crawl did too...) I was in Grade 6 when this was released, growing up in country Victoria. Eat, sleep, go to school, ride your BMX with your mates, listen to cool music, play computer games. Things were so much simpler then. This song was part of the soundtrack of our lives back then. Still sounds mint in 2021. Ahh, the 1980's; great times, great music. Miss it more than words can describe... :|
Man these guys were good! I’m 38 yr old Aussie and have seriously neglected Aussie Crawl… all songs of my childhood, but had no idea they had all these hits! Amazing band ❤

I was in my first full time job that year. Hated it, and also went through a bad break up, so it's one of my least favourite years. But the music helped to make it bearable!
This song is an absolute classic. The same with Great Sthrn Land by Icehouse. The 80's were it when it came to music. Not like the music that is around today.I was a teenager in the 80's.God bless the 80's,best decade ever.
true, we had our own great bands like DD Smash , but we never had to look much further than over the ditch for most of our favourite bands; for a while, Dragon and Chisel, Crawl, Icehouse, INXS ruled the pub dancefloors.
Brilliant, best band I have seen live. I have seen The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and other big bands over my lifetime, but AC was so tight I can't tell you, that was back in 1982. Love the references in this song to things that are special to Aussies, like Circular Quay, Burke & Wills and Scott of the Antarctic. Beautiful and the musicianship is stellar

I don’t know why. But this song is my all time favourite Aussie crawl song. Even though l don’t know half the lyrics. I love James Rynes voice. Great song, undeniable. The guitar playing of Simon Binks should be spoken about more though - such great melodies and hooks and emotion. He really elevated this song and so many Australian Crawl tunes. The classical solo and then the crying notes at the tail of the song.... just perfect!

'...the crying notes at the tail of the song...' Yes, so well said. The solo really makes it.
Hugely underrated. World class...simple ! 😎👍
Meet me down by the jetty landing
Where the pontoons bump and spray
I see the others reading, standing
As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay
Hear the captain blow his whistle
So long she's been away
I miss our early morning wrestle
Not a very happy way to start the day
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so
Feel like Scott of the Antarctic
Base camp too far away
A Russian sub beneath the Arctic
Burke and Wills and camels initials in the tree
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
She don't like that kind of behaviour [2x]
So, throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Don't be so... reckless
Don't be so...

Australian bands of the 70's and 80's produced such great music, bring it all back, most of the music thereafter was rubbish
