- If you're using nilla wafers in banana pudding, you're making it wrong! These are the 2 secret ingredients that you should be using in your banana pudding recipe!
Once you try this easy pudding recipe that is no bake, then you will have had the best banana pudding ever! Even though this recipe is made from scratch, it is super simple and it's going to change your banana pudding dessert game! I personally guarantee it!
Now I do borrow the trick from magnolia bakery in which we use sweetened condensed milk, but otherwise this recipe is as far as I know, is made up by yours truly!
The best banana pudding recipe ever follows:
Give it a go banana pudding recipe
Ingredients:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
water
1.5 packages graham crackers
1 16oz tub cool whip
1 pkg vanilla instant pudding
4 bananas
cinnamon
Directions:
1. pour sweetened condensed milk into a measuring cup and add water until it equals 2 cups. Mix together well.
2. pour in the instant vanilla pudding and mix for 2 minutes. Put in the refrigerator for about an hour. (It will thicken but it does need this much time, you can do more if you want)
3. After pudding is thickened, in a new bigger bowl add in the cool whip and pudding mixture and gently mix until it is all combined.
4. in an 8x8 inch dish, alternate layers of graham crackers, then slice and lay out banana in a single layer, then 1/3 pudding mixture. Repeat these layers. You should be able to make 2.
5. Top the pudding with cinnamon, if you want you can crunch up some graham cracker and sprinkle it around the side to make it fancy. Enjoy!
(eat this with in a day, or the bananas will get brown and mushy.
I hardly ever eat pudding but this recipe is so good, I would eat this over cake! And cake is my all time favorite!
Check out the pantry challenge which only took 10 minutes to make and I used another instant pudding mix here:

This is the magnolia bakery style pudding, check out this video for a from scratch version: czcams.com/video/2bXVlt4tJmQ/video.html
The reason why people are always trying to make banana pudding better, is because they aren’t making it from scratch. They are using Cool Whip, instant pudding, etc. …… which is not how you really make banana pudding. Making it from scratch is very easy. If you have ever had real banana pudding, you’ll understand why people try to add things to make it different/better.
I have to agree, I'm sure making it from scratch is great, but some people don't want to or don't have time or they really just want something quick. Using real whipped cream is 100% better than cool whip but same answer above. Even after all the differences, making the swap with my 2 other ingredients will still make a homemade from scratch banana pudding even better.
You are so right, VeiledDancer. People would pay my Mom to make them a banana pudding. It was the very best and cannot be improved upon, although graham crackers may be very tasty as a replacement for vanilla wafers since I love them too.
Exactly!!
I would be interested in the recipe, Although I know how to do everything from scratch. This was a copy cat from magnolia bakery and as far as research goes, this is what was used. Next time I have the craving I will do it from scratch and I'll know what the real deal is like
@@GiveItAGoBakesI know what Yu mean my mom did it was warm and had that foam from the egg whites I think if ppl tasted the homemade version they would not go BK to the lazy way again I do the lazy way myself 😂 I honestly hate measuring things I'm just ready to eat the prise
...all that pudding and whip cream throws me to the left. As good as it looks, I just can't. I always make it the old fashioned way with real bananas
I put bananas in it, or are you talking about something completely different?
I made banana pudding for the first time last weekend using vanilla cookies, and I swear as soon as I took the first bite I told my husband it would’ve been better using graham crackers instead! Then your video showed up in my feed and confirmed it! Good to know about the cinnamon too, I will add that as well next time I make it.
Oh my gosh, that's so awesome! Also a bit creepy our phones do that right?!
Let me know how you like the touch of cinnamon, next time you try it out.
I've made so many variations of banana pudding. My personal favorite is to use Pepperidge Farms Bordeaux cookies. Basically caramel cookies. Comparatively, they're a bit more pricey unless you find them on sale but very tasty. Drizzle a bit of caramel sauce on top for an added touch. So good.
Oh wow, that sounds absolutely amazing!!! I'm going to have to try that next time
Thanks for the recommendation. I want to try those cookies. And CARAMEL SAUCE! Genius! 👍
@@patlile7386 I'm excited for trying caramel sauce
I think the Graham crackers and cinnamon sound absolutely amazing. No pitchforks here
🙌🙌 thank you!
Omg it sounds good. I use pecan sands i love it 👋🏽❤️
Those are one of my favorite cookies ever! Adding it to my list!
I think you're right, that sounds delicious. I'm gonna try this❤️
Hope you like it!
Thanks for another great video and some great inspiration for the kitchen and something yummy to eat
Thank you for watching
I CANT GET OVER THE EDITING SKILLS HERE AMY! WOW! GIRL, KEEP IT UP XX
Aw thank you it's been a struggle but getting more comfortable doing it!
You know what they say, consistency builds competence so I'm sure you'll get comfy! I hate editing 🤦🏽♀️
@@Gladyscakekitchen eventually. I don't like it because it takes 5 to 8 hours each time! 😢 But I like your videos, so you've been a good example for mine!
Thanks Amy you're too kind.. takes me 12 hours - 16 hours per video but I work at 4 hours a time over 3- 4 days! Its 2 hours for shorts so I do those more but long form is a necessary evil.. I like the learning aspects tho.. keep it up
@@Gladyscakekitchen wow!! Well impressive job, yes so much to learn but we will keep going!
Lol I’m not into banana 🍌 pudding but this looks really good 👍🏽 😋 I might have to try it with the cinnamon and Graham crackers 💯 this also looked super easy and fun to 🤩 make great video 💕
Thank you Bree! I literally will skip banana pudding over for any other dessert, I knew I should've left me saying that in the video lol. I hate it, but this actually was good. You could leave the banana out and do a different flavor pudding too... actually I may do that!
Hi, I'm a New Subscriber from Florida, Actually found your channel Today 😀 and This Banana Pudding looks DELISH 👌 😋
Hello and welcome my fellow southerner! Thank you for coming along and if you make it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
You all make things more difficult than it needs to be. I made a banana pudding poke cake for a huge bday party we had with a band and everyone loved it. All you do is bake a yellow cake mix. Cook how box says. When done and it cools a bit use the handle of a wooden spoon or similar and poke holes all over the top of the cake, when cooled make jello banana pudding. So as box says and pour over cake and spread to make sure goes in the holes. You can layer with sliced banana or leave them out, then layer crushed vanilla wafers or layer the whole cookie, I rather crush them and then spread cool whip on top. I sprinkle some crushed vanilla cookies on top as decoration-Refrigerate over night. If you want when you cut and serve you can put couple sliced bananas on top. I’m allergic to bananas so I don’t put them. You can also make the cake using chocolate pudding and no bananas.
That's awesome, sounds delicious 😋 Not really quite the same as a pudding, thanks for sharing the recipe though!
I never make banana pudding. But I might try this!
I tried it this time because I keep seeing magnolia bakery ads everywhere for it! What about it makes you not want it, or just better things than it?
It looks delicious
Thank you! It is!
This really sounds good! What size vanilla pudding mix did you use in the recipe?
It's the smaller package. I think it's like 2.3oz but I'm not sure exactly.
Hi I'm going to try this recipe
I hope you love it!
I make it the old fashioned way on the stove with a double boiler and it taste fine with the nilla wafers but this way your doing it I'll give it a try
Oh yes from scratch would be amazing!! I'll have to try that out some time!
It would be nice to have the recipe printed somewhere.
Oh of course! All of my recipes I come up with are in description
I used cinnamon gramcrakers it was delicious try it 😊
Oh yes cinnamon ones are the best!
It's better made from scratch with flour vanilla flavoring and milk cooked on the stove
I will have to try that out sometime with my other tricks. Using pudding is just so much more time saving sometimes. I'll try your method for sure!
Have used GC and very good with my BP.
I agree whole heartedly!
Watching from California. OMG what is Magnolia bakery? I need that in my life!! Lol
It's a famous-ish bakery in New York city I believe. It was all the rage for a while.
@GiveItAGoBakes Ahhh got it, thanks 😊
@@fabianasantucci1554 you're welcome
"Ain't nobody got time for that" Sweet Brown strikes again.
I've been waiting 2 years for someone to recognize that! It's just something I say now, thanks to her 🤣
THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟 DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜 AWESOME
🙏🙏
You started with 1 1/2 cups water and took some out and ended with 2 cups?
Yes, thank you for your question! after the water I put in the sweetened condensed milk and it was almost to 3 cups. I poured out until I got to 2 cups. I hadn't mixed the water and s.c. milk yet so I poured out mostly water.
Thank you now I understand 😋
@@patriciamoreno5733 you're welcome 🙏
I have a rake and I live two houses down! 😂
Ha ha very funny. Don't knock it til you try it!
Darn, no graham wafers in Australia; any suggestions folks?
I have heard digestive biscuits are similar, just a little less sweet. Also Marie Granitt or something like that. Hope that helps!
@@GiveItAGoBakes Thanks for quick response, and it has to be right. I grew up in Canada, I loved Graham Crackers, and here in Australia, McVities Digestives Original are my favorite, and I never made the connection until now and it's been over 50 years!
@@johngreydanus2033 🤣 it can happen and most definitely I can relate
Amazon Global maybe?
@@binkersbonkers244 good suggestion!
Oh no! Your secret ingredient at 3.27 ruined it for me.
Ha ha, sorry. Just leave that one out, it's still great without it! (That's one of my most favorite things) thank you for watching 🙏
What kind of graham crackers? Honey or cinnamon? If you're adding cinnamon on top, might as well go with the cinnamon graham crackers. Or perhaps a layer of each might be good.
Cinnamon would be my choice to use, I didn't have any the day I made this one though 😅
Condensed milk? No
Lol, I was leary at first too, but it was good
Can i make the pudding with almond milk instead
In my experience almond milk doesn't set up quite the same if you only use it. It's been a little while since I've done it so it could be different now. If you try, I would suggest starting with half the amount in almond milk and see if it starts to set up. If it does then add a bit more. If it starts to be too loose then I would finish off with regular milk. Hope that helps!
@@marioncobretti3076 maybe they have a milk allergy and can't use it. 🤔
So vanilla pudding with bananas sliced in the bottom is considered banana pudding? Not where I come from it's vanilla pudding with bananas sliced in it. My banana pudding, it's too die for but it's actual. Putting not something from a box with cookies or graham crackers.
Any pudding variety with banana you could technically consider banana pudding. I would love to know your recipe to try
Well, thats one opinion. She has a right to her own. 😂
Are you team nilla wafers? 😁
Darn, I thought you were going to give us a banana pudding from scratch. Still looking for one that doesn't include pre-prepared ingredients. Oh well.
I've been told! I'm actually working on one that's from scratch and I plan to use my Oma's pudding recipe, it's easy and just takes a bit of time. I can give you a sneak peak that I had tweaked the recipe on my from scratch pie. You'd just have to leave out the peanut butter I used in the video. Then layer like normal in this bandana pudding recipe.
Here's the video if you're curious about it:
czcams.com/video/Uw4KVpbjzvM/video.html
Here's my from scratch version: czcams.com/video/2bXVlt4tJmQ/video.html
In medium saucepan, 1 cup sugar, 3 tbsp cornstarch, mix. Add 3 beaten eggs, and 3 cups milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a full boil and begins to thicken. Remove from heat, add tsp of vanilla . Put a layer of vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 2 quart dish. Add a layer of sliced bananas, a layer of pudding. Make a second layer of wafers, bananas, remainder of pudding. Top with crushed wafer crumbs if desired. It takes 2 or 3 bananas, depending on size.
Nilla vanilla wafers are tasteless and cardboardy. There is a local brand (Jackson’s) that’s better. Also, making the pudding from scratch is easier than whatever she made. It may take longer to cook but you know what all the ingredients are.
I've never seen Jackson's brand, possible it could be good. I would agree, making from scratch it is easier AND I really like to know what ingredients I'm using. This was following what I found to be a magnolia bakery copycat recipe. Next one will be from scratch!
Cool whip is gross n Nola is what my family likes
What's n Nola? I haven't heard of it before
Why the hell would you use Cool Whip?
Seriously!
It's not even dairy, it's oil!
While the pudding was setting up you could have used a hand mixer with whisk attachments to whip heavy cream.
I know it's oil, sometimes people don't feel like making whipped cream in a mixer, sometimes they like to use a quicker solution. Either way, people have different tastes and this was the way the recipe read for that way. Don't fret @bisonzilla I'll be doing an all from scratch version very soon.
This woman is making banana pudding wrong. Before there was pudding mix it was made by hand. And made without sweetened condensed milk. What she’s making look more like a parfait with graham crackers. The only thing she has right is how to layer it. So you can’t say it’s being made wrong. She can say she found a new way of making it to her taste. This is just as bad as those who say they’re making banana pudding but they don’t put bananas in it. Only the pudding and the cookies. They should call it cookie pudding. 🤦♀️
If I can't say it's being made wrong, you can't either! Everyone makes it different. I'm sharing the way I like to make it. 🤣
😭 thanks
Why cry?
Why, why, why would you wants to spoil what is certainly THE only use for Nilla cookies in the entire world. For Shame.
🤣🤣🤣 I do not like them for anything lol. If they're only good for this, imagine how much better it is with something that's enjoyable and tastes good.
The fact that you use boxed pudding mix in your banana pudding tells me you know nothing about making banana pudding. Boxed pudding is garbage. So much for you telling people they're making it wrong.
Oh good grief, this was a magnolia bakery style pudding. The wrong part is the vanilla wafers and the cinnamon which you miss out on if you've never tried it. But you'd know that if you watched the video. Great comment though
Then you should call it a magnolia bakery style banana pudding so as not to confuse the basic banana pudding!
@sondrasmith2248 I DID say that, it was in the video
No Brahms sucks
Brahms like the ice cream place?
Imagine saying the cookies that are literally the cookies created for banana pudding are wrong😒😒😒...everybody trying to be different...then i realized her skin color and all credibility of this video went out the window...she also sounds like shes had about 6 glasses of wine so theres that too
Vanilla wafers were invented in 1898 by a German- American man. They started being regularly used for banana pudding in the 1940s, which means there were at least 40 years when they weren't. Nabisco started printing the recipe on the box after it became popular. I'm not sure why the color of skin matters for providing an alternative suggestion for a recipe. Alas, I hope you have a fabulous day today and wish you all the best in life.
Imagine saying "..then i realized her skin color and all credibility of this video went out the window" because you think vanilla wafers were created for banana pudding. Your parents failed.
I make them w borduex cookies from pepperage farm...TRY ITNITSNSO GOOD LOL annnd some crushed nillas on top but them cookiesss lol.
I swear the Borduex seem really familiar. I'll have to look when I go back to the grocery store next. (Writing on my calendar now or I'll forget lol). I'll have to switch out the nilla wafers though 🤣
