Paula, I find your lessons to be very clear and helpful. This particular lesson was particularly interesting because you spoke of the importance of context and I found deber and haber to be particularly confusing and so I put together the following examples as an excercise to get my head around it.
In order to translate "I should have ordered more soda" into Spanish. Which of the four following examples do you find to be more correct or appropriate?
1.) "Debí haber pedido más refresco." - This sentence uses the past tense "debí," which suggests that you had an obligation or should have ordered more soda in the past, but it's not clear whether you actually did it. It implies a stronger sense of regret or missed opportunity in the past.
2.) "Debiera haber pedido más refresco." - Suggests you should have ordered more soda, but it's a bit less definitive or urgent than "debí." It conveys a sense of recommendation or expectation, similar to "should have."
3.) "Debería haber pedido más refresco." - This sentence uses the conditional "debería," which indicates that you should have ordered more soda, and it's a bit more neutral in terms of expressing regret. It focuses on the missed opportunity but doesn't necessarily convey as much urgency or strong regret as the first two options.
4.) "Hubiera debido pedir más refresco." - While grammatically correct, this option is somewhat less common in everyday speech. It may sound a bit more formal or literary compared to the other two options. Still, it can be used if you want to convey the same idea of regret or the sense of what should have been done differently.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the tone and emphasis you want to convey in your conversation, but "Debería haber pedido más refresco" seems to be the most widely used and natural choice in casual speech in México where I live.

I watched this video lots of times. I avoided the temptation to pause the video and translate everything sentence by sentence with Google translate.
I think that I can recognize about half or more of the words I hear now. There seems to be a certain critical mass where you know enough of the words in a sentence that you can guess the rest.
There is a show on HBO that I watched in English called "game of thrones". Now I am watching it dubbed in Spanish. I really need to work more on listening to Spanish. When I listen to a Spanish language TV show it is very hard because they talk so fast and run their words together. I can pick out a word or two every now and then.

There is this taco stand that they set up near my house in a tent on weekends. I paid for my food. I went inside the store next door to the little tent where they cook to buy some stuff. When I came out I said:

Así es Steve. El único que se queda por fuera es “deber de”, que sería como “I guess” (aunque hay muchas formas de decir esto en español).
